I ate there twice in February and both the food and the service were great. I sat at the bar and Franka took great care of me!

What a wonderful find on my trip to Rochester MN, in every respect.
Food / Service / Ambiance
And can't wait to have the chance to experience some other dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2024
Came here for the 2nd time for date night with the hubs.
First- the food & drinks: The food was excellent both times. We started with cocktails & apps. The "son in law" crispy soft boiled eggs were a delightful surprise. Based on the menu description, I probably wouldn't have picked it but absolutely loved it. The crispy fish sauce pork belly was also outstanding. For dinner, we both had curry. Me, rice noodle house curry with beef brisket. Excellent flavor, definitely has a "kick" to it. The brisket was amazingly tender, and I'm definitely not sad about having leftovers! The Negroni Floresscence was awesome- a delicious cocktail, not too sweet, definitely refreshing.
Waiter Pierre was friendly and attentive.
If there was anything negative to say this time (first time was perfect 5/5), was the hostess. The only reason I' m giving this 4/5 instead of 5/5. Had I not been here before, I really would have been put off. She was abrupt and it was hard to understand her as she spoke while smacking her gum. I get they were busy, as are most restaurants in Rochester on a Saturday night at peak of the dinner hour. She definitely doesn't give a good first impression of the overall joyful vibe of Thai Pop. Hopefully if it was a bad day for her it gets better, or with some mentoring she'll learn that hers is the first face of what will hopefully remain a thriving, unique place in downtown Rochester.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Scott H.Minneapolis, MN10034863Jan 31, 2024
I can't believe I haven't been here before! We really enjoyed it.
Thai Pop is in the space Grand Rounds used to occupy. They do a much better job with the space than GR did. It's really welcoming and they have a lot of plants and a good sized room.
The staff were all really friendly and genuine, they made it really pleasant.
I had curry with chicken and it was great, a little heat but not too much. My wife got the coconut brisket. I tried some and it was very good. The only downside were the wings. They were huge, actually too big. Not much flavor but the sauce on the side was tasty.
They have craft beer on tap which is always appreciated. It's a small selection but with a good variety.
I shall definitely return.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katie B.Rochester, MN296Jan 2, 2024
Initial thoughts on Thai Pop is that it's pretty great. I have been back since my first time and have turned friends onto this restaurant as well.
To keep things simple, truthfully I wasn't really impressed with either of the 2 entrees we ordered. Cocktails were decent. Our server was awesome, very friendly, attentive, and answered any questions we had.
Entrees:
*Pad Phrik Gang Gi - meh. Chicken, green beans, red sauce. [4/10]
*Coconut Brisket - good flavor, but do not order this if you're very hungry. Not very much food. [6/10]
Cocktails:
*Tongue Thai'd - Sweet with a spicy kick [6.5/10]
*Passion Pop - Sweet and Smooth. VERY TASTY [9/10]
THE KICKER:
Now I'm truly sorry if you're not a mushroom person because you are severely missing out.
The Tom Yum Soup. Gorgeous. Amazing. Work of art.
This soup is perfection. [10/10]
We ordered this with medium spice level and honestly still wasn't too spicy. It's light and tangy. Loaded with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. And absolutely bursting with flavor. Comes with a side of rice that we just add right into the soup. SO GOOD.
The portion is massive, to be frank so it's a good shareable.
I encourage you to try it.
Will absolutely be returning to Thai Pop to try more of their soupsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 52223837Mar 19, 2024
Super cute spot! The aesthetic is so cute but with a great menu to match. We had the crispy pork belly, chicken wings w/ fish sauce, & curry. Everything was really good but we especially loved the pork belly. The tongue thai'd cocktail was delicious as well! They have a speakeasy downstairs which was very intimate and perfect for a nightcap.

Absolutely phenomenal. We ordered many dishes off the menu and every one was a hit. The atmosphere is dreamy. The service on point. And the food is some of the best Thai I've ever had. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Went for lunch and absolutely loved it. Everything was fresh and flavorful! I had the Thai Basil Chicken and it was a little spicy but so good. My daughter had the Tom Yum Soup and she really enjoyed it. We traded entrees half way through because we liked each other's dishes too. Patty was our server and she was very helpful. We ended with Annie's Toast and it was amazing. Like a donut French toast with honey creme drizzle and ice cream. We couldn't stop eating it. We also had hot tea which was served in a cute pot. Definitely a good find in Rochester.

Wry good and fresh food. Didn't give it a 5 star rating though because we live 35 min from there so we have to take out food a lot and I feel like the portions for take out food compared to eating in is not the same. I don't like ordering takeout from here but sometimes it's necessary for us since we don't live in town. It would be nice if the prices for takeout were lower than eating in since the portions seems to be a lot different

Two amazing bartenders that were so kind and helpful however from my perspective the part owner/cook simply does not know how to cook per their own menu options.
Their menu offers no spice options but after sending my meal back once I couldn't even eat their second attempt either because it was absolutely no different than the first batch.
I tipped $20 to the bartenders and walked out after they comped the meal but leaving me still having to go find dinner elsewhere. After a day at Mayo this absolutely stunk!
Having a medical condition that can't tolerate spices this was a total disaster as I've never met a cook that couldn't actually eliminate the spice especially when the menu says they can.
Time for a new cook and possibly a new owner if she is one in the same.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
