I saw you mentioned that to make a vegan dish, I should choose only vegetables and soy products. I'm wondering if you use separate pots for blanching vegetables and soy products, rather than using the same pot that is used for any meats or seafood.?

      A:

Hello: Yes, you have the choice to choose vegetable options. Once picked, please let the staff member know. As we will cook your meal separate of the cooking and plating of your bowl.

Do they serve any alcohol for dine in or can you BYOB?

      A:

Unfortunately we do not serve beer or alcohol and not able to accommodate BYOB either. We are looking into an alcohol license in the future.

This is my go-to spot for malaxiangguo in Ktown. Having tried three different places in the area, sampling both malaxiangguo and malatang, I can confidently say that the flavors here for malaxiangguo are top-notch. However, the malatang leans towards the nuttier side, which isn't quite my preference.

The ambiance is casual, and it can get quite busy, especially during peak hours (and don't get me started on the parking situation!). Nonetheless, the prices are reasonable - I typically spend around $20-25 for my malaxiangguo fix.

My friend was telling me that this is her goto spot for hotpot in ktown, so I decided to try this place out. The parking needs cash and does not accept venmo, so we had to find street parking. There was no wait when we went around 2pm on a Tuesday. When we walked in we immediately grabbed the bowl and customizing our malatang. There was a lot to choose from and a sauce bar which I really liked. After filling my bowl, I placed it on the scale and asked for soup + spicy for the spice level.

It took a little less than 15 minutes for our malatangs to be ready and I was pretty excited to try because it looked really good from my first impression. The soup was not that spicy for the first meal and all the noodles seemed to be cooked almost perfectly. It was around 25 dollars for 1.2 lbs and I thought the price wasn't too bad for being in the middle of la.

I definitely recommend this place for malatangs for those looking for a tasty malatang place in ktown!

Malatang lives in my head rent-free 24/7, 365 days a year, so I was v excited to try this place! I had a solid experience here with great food, fresh ingredients, and great service.

For those who are new to malatang, you pay by weight and pick your own ingredients from the bar. To note, this place has a minimum weight of 1 lb ($16.95 at the time of this review), which was more food than I could finish but I got a fantastic second meal out of the leftovers the next day. You then pick from dry pot or hot pot (noodle soup). I went with the medium spice dry pot, which wasn't as spicy as expected. Definitely coming back to try the hot next time!

I highly recommend coming here hungry and loading up on the beef and lamb. I'm also a huge fan of any carb in noodle or rice cake form. Your food also comes with a free side of rice!

Highly recommend this place to satiate all your malatang needs, I know I'll be back soon for sure!

I usually don't like spicy things but malatang has become one of my favorite food recently! I came here with a group of friends and upon walking in the server will assign you a table. Then, you go to the ingredients bar where you can choose what you want in your bowl. There are so many options for noodles, veggies, meat, seafood, and more. They have a 1lb minimum for $16.99/lb so make sure to get at least 1lb worth of food. You have the option to hot pot or dry pot, so I opted for the dry pot which comes with a bowl or rice. Everything was so tasty and I love how they seasoned the dry pot. There are only a few tables but apparently they have another location in the same plaza. Will definitely come back to try more!

Our first time having malatang was pretty great, even with a number of food restrictions at the table!

Here are a few things to note:
-There's some peanut in the broth, so if anyone has a peanut allergy, make sure to let them know when you place your order.
-Even the mild has some spice, so be aware for anyone who can't eat spicy, whether for preference or due to dietary restrictions.
-There is a minimum weight of 1lb for each order.
-There are two restaurants in the plaza with the same name, and they are indeed the same place!
-Valet parking was $5 for an hour and $7 for up to 4 hours within the plaza. For those parking here and going elsewhere, it's a flat $20. Make sure to check your time to ensure you pay the right amount - for some members of our party, they charged $7 until we checked the time stamp and had them correct the cost to $5 since they were there for less than an hour.

      Now, for the food!
-Chicken and lamb skewers: tasty - well seasoned! We enjoyed both! While there were some chewy parts on the lamb, some parts were nicely tender. The chicken was more consistent in texture - juicy and tender.

-The malatang broth was super tasty! A number of us were sweating, some of us from the mild and others from the medium, but almost all of us finished it anyway! I got napa cabbage, cabbage, baby bok choy, ramen noodles (think Japanese, not instant), cilantro, tofu, bean curd, quail eggs, and beef. Everything was cooked well, which made it easy to enjoy every bite!

-The sauce bar had some great options: soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, numbing oil, garlic, sesame sauce, sesame oil, green onion, and cilantro (I might have missed something, but this is what I remember!). We didn't need much sauce to dip our food in, but it was nice to have tasty options to mix things up.

Overall, we really enjoyed eating here! The food was super good, and the service was really prompt and made for a positive experience.

This is my favorite malatang place in all of ktown. The spice level is perfect (I get medium) and the ingredients and so fresh. You pay by the pound and can add whatever you want. I recommend adding less than you want because it's a lot. You can get either soup or dry but both are very good. They also have a fried pork that's good too. They expanded so there's two locations in the same plaza, so don't get confused.

Food comes out pretty quickly and there's valet for the lot. Valet has gotten up but that's not the fault of the restaurant. Just a warning

Drinks are in the fridge and all of them are good too. Space is a bit crowded but if it's to wait a little less, I'm down for that

You pay at the end and the employee usually comes to your table to pay you out.

Got the mala dry pot! It's all self serve, then you give your pot to the front and they'll make it into something tasty. Was feeling pretty full and satisfied after coming here. The portions are pretty big so if you're coming in a pair you can probably just share one. Docking a point because there was a dead fly in between the veritable leaves in the self serve bar...

Came to this place by sweet chance while in town and it satisfied our cravings for hot pot. Place was small and cute and clean and workers were really nice and they let us bring our bikes inside. First time being at a self serve hot pot this way, reminded me of Mongolian food place at the mall. So you put all your raw stuff in a massive bowl decide if you want it dry or in broth then hand to the lady and she hands over to the kitchen to do the cooking and then brings it out to the table.
Dumplings were soft, tasty and fresh dough.
Bottled drinks only and everything is self serve as far as condiments.
