Q:
Is Tack's still open. I've tried calling several times over the past month and the phone just rings?
A:
Sadly no. Just heard from a friend that dinner over there and it's permanently closed. Bummer! Maybe they'll reopen someday

Great steak sandwich with unique and tasty sauce. Decent fries. Not in the best part of town, best to takeout.

Very good soft roll Tack's sauce Cheesesteak. Tack's has been making very good cheesesteaks since 1946. I am pretty sure this was the kind of neighborhood if it was Daylight I would have locked my doors and kept on driving. I'm glad it was dark. What impressed me the most about Tack's was the young man and woman working there. If you're in the food industry and you're having a tough time finding good people, go to reading and see if these have friends or if you can steal them. Great young people. Great overall experience.

Tack's sandwich shop has no wifi and no parking. They make great tuna melts but you have to specify how you want it. There is a casual atmosphere. Friendly cooks no outdoor seating limited indoor seating and they have delicious cheese steak sandwich. As far as I know as of 2017 they only take cash.

There is a casual atmosphere. Friendly cooks no outdoor seating limited indoor seating and they have delicious cheesesteak sandwich. They take debit or credit card. It's a good place if you want to support local places to eat. I have to revise this review as I get more stuff off the menu and give it a fair taste.
EDIT: As of September 2017 I found out that they are only accepting cash. - Christian F.Oley, PA3264Oct 15, 2017
Great tuna and Italian sandwiches. It's great that they offer oil or mayonnaise on these - most don't even ask. Their rolls are very fresh and have a nice texture to them that I really favor.
As another reviewer stated, this is a cash only operation.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jarrid P.Reading, PA2941May 26, 2018
Sub par food with blatant desperation for business. The last two times we went in for cheesesteaks the owner actually pleaded with us to spend more money, but when I asked if they have wings they said they only have cheesesteaks and burgers. The fries come in the smallest bag and are soaked in temped oil. The "cooks" make it very clear they don't care for your business and have better things to do.

Amazing. Loved it. I'm sure everyone else has already been and knows how good this is but I just went for the first time and am mind blown.

Tacks went extremely downhill ever since the original owner had the place.Stale rolls,i asked for peppers and didn't receive any ,pizza is sloppy, appetizers minimized and burned, customer service poor.A shame for because i looked forward to what i thought was the best sandwich shop in Reading.

I haven't been here in ages but Tack's is absolutely my favorite Reading sandwich shop. Ironically, when I danced at Berks Ballet, our studio was up the street at the top of 17th and we'd all go down for a cheese steak, fries, and cream soda during our rehearsal breaks. Sounds old fashioned, but it was only a few years ago that every Saturday afternoon you could find a line of ballerinas all perched on the Tack's counter stools relishing a greasy lunch that we weren't supposed to be eating! They also make a great tuna or turkey sub, the fountain cream soda is awesome, and there's also an ice cream case full of old school treats. They're in a bad part of town, but little old Tack's is worth it.

Gotta get a cheesesteak! The rolls are always super-fresh, and the sauce puts it over the top!
