Working around the Bryant Park/Times Square area doesn't leave many decent lunch options that don't hurt the wallet. My coworkers and I decided to try this place for lunch one day.
We all ordered off of the hot foods menu. You stand in line to place your order, they hand you your ticket, and you must go pay first and get your ticket stamped before you can pick up your food. There is a $10 minimum on credit card though, and seeing how my total order was less than $10, I made sure I had enough cash on me.
I got a chicken katsu don with brown rice. One downside is that my order, along with another person who got a katsu don with brown rice, took way longer than other others. I'm thinking it's because of the brown rice, so I would advise against getting brown rice if you want your food faster.
Another downside to this place is that it's small, and everyone is crowding around the same area waiting for their number to be called. As someone who hates big crowds, it made me a little uncomfortable.
It wasn't the greatest katsu don in the world but it was pretty flavorful and definitely a lot of food for its price. I would come here again for lunch.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 3, 2024Updated review

I love the bath powder and I love getting healthy foods and some tiny treats that I can use for a picnic.
It's so nice to stop by and see the seasonal drinks and pick up something exciting.
The staff was absolutely helpful.

One of my favorite shops in NY. From imported snacks and foods both obscure and well known to a grocery section that feels like you stepped into a market in Japan, this Bryant Park area Sunrise Mart is the real deal.
Their in-house food is good too, and reasonably priced even during these inflated times. Personally it's the onigiri (karaage for sure) that is always a go to. Pair that with the Kirin Lemon tea and some Takoyaki Ball chips and it's perfection.
Hit up Kinokuniya near by for some manga and you have a solid afternoon in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 13, 20241 check-in
Why have I not come here earlier?! It's a great spot for a quick lunch. There's some seating inside but it's really a grab and go spot. They have a ton of different Japanese foods, all at great prices! You can order off their menu which has udon, curry, and more. But they're also constantly pumping out bento boxes and bringing out hot foods. The prices are really reasonable for Japanese food in the city and it's delicious.
I came to grab a bento box during lunch and was overwhelmed by the amount of different items to choose from. There was a line but it moved quick and the staff is also nice! They also have a ton of different onigiri, lots of different flavors/fillings to choose from. Those are delicious and a great snack!
I'd definitely be coming back, really fulfills my Japanese food cravings. Their bento boxes have a variety of different things in it too which is good for someone like me who loves to have a little of everything. They also have lots of different proteins and some bowls with a mix of stuff.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dec 24, 2023
This has always been a favorite place of mine for picking up onigiri, or specialty grocery items that I can't find anywhere else. For that, it's good. But recently I had an experience that really disappointed me.
It turns out that their vegetable curry, which I have been having for years, is made from chicken stock. I found this out because a young employee (probably vegetarian too) said 'just so you know, the vegetable curry is made from chicken stock', clearly passing along information that she hadn't known until recently.
To that employee, I give 5 stars. To the place? Two stars. It's absolutely unconscionable to sell a vegetable curry without indicating anywhere on the menu or signage that it's made from chicken stock--particularly because in the grocery part of the store you can find any number of boxed vegetable curries for sale with are vegetarian, and they taste exactly the same as the vegetable curry they serve, to the point that I honestly thought until now that they were just serving the boxed curry heated up.
Anyway. Room for improvement for sure. Please indicate things like this in the future.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - 500185299May 26, 2023
I love the cafe (and so does everyone else, as evidenced by the lunchtime buzz)--super fresh and delicious food and many tasty healthy options. I got the spicy salmon roll and a shrimp tempura onigiri--which is made fresh to order! Both were really good, but I was especially happy with the onigiri. The tempura was fresh and had good texture, and the rice had nicely distinct rice grains and was well seasoned. The sweet savory brown sauce was delicious too! Very filling lunch that hit the spot.
The grocery store is also great--prices are probably so-so, but some of them are lower than Hmart! I like getting udon, dumplings, and snacks here. :)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 5, 2023
I've been coming here for lunch in the last couple of weeks. Good fresh lunch options on their non grocery side of the shop. There's been lines during the times I've been there but it does move pretty quickly.
So far my fave is the chicken katsu followed by the chicken teriyaki. Will add this as one of my go to places when I am in the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kiara A.Rockville Centre, NY153145Feb 21, 2024
The prices are insane, which is normal for nyc and I'm used to it. However, the food is an absolute miss. I will say this, the sashimi was very fresh and that is top priority to not get worms. However the poke bowl tasted horrible. Just really bad. Not only was it far from authentic but it just didn't taste good. Weird because I have been here a few times and wasn't disatisfied. I would say it's a hit or a miss. However it wasn't the chefs fault, they were very skillful and everything was beautifully cooked. Maybe it is the citrus sauce was made wrong but something tasted very chemical. Will review again soon hoping to change review

Came by here while on vacation. Got negi tuna maki, ground negitoro togo box, and 2 shrimp tempura rice balls. Came late, around 6pm. Possibly the worst takeout food from a japanese grocery I've ever had. Both the tuna maki and ground negitoro were fishy, the green onion was unable to mask the smell. Packages were prepared the date they were sold, so the original ingredient fish was probably too old to be consumed. The rice from the shrimp onigiri was too hard and dried out, I threw both in the trash. I probably could have salvaged the shrimp tempura, but after the fishy tuna and stale rice I was too annoyed to make the effort.
The saving grace of my meal was matcha flavored pocky, discounted from $4 to ~$1.75. At least that tasted normal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 254316401Apr 22, 2023
I haven't been here since it was just one store. I came on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy. I'm glad they were able to survive and expand into the next store to split up the food and grocery store. The hot food seems affordable at around $13 per bowl. Upstairs has seats. Next door is the grocery store which seems nice and organized. I got the spicy salmon onigiri and mentaiko onigiri. Both had a good amount of filling. I felt full after finishing. The selection of products was exciting. I found a small can of Uji matcha powder for $4. There are small tables and chairs outside.
