What a secret little gem in Hyde Park. We were trying to locate a new sushi restaurant and stumbled upon Singha Contemporary Thai and Sushi. Title is super deceiving because anytime you see a restaurant with dual specialties entrees you automatically think they do not specialize in sushi.
Well was I completely wrong not only was Thai selection amazing but sushi was to die to for.
Talk a fusion of a restaurant.
Not only was the sushi outstanding but the Thai Cuisines we ordered was par none the best I have encountered in the states vs. overseas.
Let me begin with ambiance it was indeed contemporary and romantic. You could actually hear your speak during light conversations and also understand the staff. The ambiance was great for families or couples.
We ordered several sushi dishes to start off with beginning with some yellow tail topped with some jalapeños and light soy. We also ordered Spicy Ocean roll, sashimi octopus. Deluxe California roll was amazing as well.
We then proceeded order some Thai such as eggplant with mushrooms, seafood noodles, and beef noodles.
It all so amazing and delicious. I love this place and would come back without hesitations.
The service was amazing as the server was attentive and checked on us frequently.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 25, 2020
Had a pretty good dinner here in the early spring. Portions are large, food is very flavorful and appropriately spiced (hot when you ask, not when you don't). The service is really limited though. It seems like there's only actually one person working the front of house, and while she's polite she's also only one person. This became an issue when parts of the meal arrived at different times, drinks needed refills, and other tables needed their checks.
the positive is I was able to have a really great example of duck Curry, and the silken eggplant on special was entirely on point. if you go here and it's a dead night or there's multiple people working you're going to have a great meal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mareshah O.Dayton, KY72524Apr 7, 2021
Our go to. We have tried green papaya and the Teak, and we are coming all the way from Northern Kentucky. The Beef Prid King, the pad Thai (with an extra order of peanut sauce onthe side), the crab Rangoon are the best, the dumplings, the sushi, the Tom Kha Gai, the chicken Panang Curry...need I say more? Nothing is too sweet like many of the others.
Your taste buds will thank me!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 368341514Nov 11, 2019
I enjoy Singha for the vibe and the pad Thai. I love love love pad Thai and theirs is one of my favorites. And I love that it comes with an egg roll, yay! I haven't tried many other things on the menu, but I have always gone in groups and they are always satisfied! It all comes with a soup or salad at the start. Good service. Good prices. Private parking lot. A great choice for a solo lunch or a group!

Lately my wife and I have been trying all the newer food delivery services. One that we have used a few times is OrderUp and we've used it twice to order dinner from Singha Contemporary Thai & Sushi. We have yet to dine in, but if you are looking for their physical location they are in the space formerly occupied by Blue Elephant on Wasson.
For our first order we tried the basil chicken, red curry with chicken, and the fresh summer roll. The basil chicken ($11.95)was my personal choice and included stir fried basil, onion, green bean, bell pepper, and mushroom. This was the best basil chicken I've had in the city! The ingredients were fresh and the serving size was very generous.
My wife chose the red curry ($11.95), which combines red chili paste in coconut milk with bamboo shoot, basil, bell pepper, broccoli, green bean, and carrot. The broth was thin as expected and easily soaked into the rice. This left the fresh vegetables to really shine on their own with just a bit of the spice soaking into those. Overall a really good Thai curry that we would order again.
The fresh summer rolls (2 for $5.95) filled a rice wrap with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, bean sprout, basic, and noodles. Alone I found these to pretty bland, so I found it necessary to drown it in the tamarind sauce that was provided on the side. I would skip this in the future.
On our second order our appetizer choice was completely different. The mozzarella popcorn chicken ($6.95) is nearly like a cheese stick you find at most sports bars, but the breading is actually ground chicken. These are deep-fried and served with sweet soy sauce. Not an authentic choice by any means, but these were actually pretty good.
Not one to mix it up when I find something I love, I stuck with the basil chicken again on our second order. My wife did switch it up and went with the panang curry ($11.95) this time. This combines panang curry paste and coconut milk with lime leaves, bell pepper, broccoli, and carrot. I liked the sweet and spicy flavor of the curry better than the red curry that we had for our first order. However the vegetable mix from the red was slightly better in my opinion. I've heard the green curry is also really good so may to give that one a try too. Either way their curry options are solid.
Overall, Singha is easily one of my favorite Thai restaurants around. It's easily better than the previous occupants of the space, Blue Elephant, and is neck and neck with Ruthai's for our favorite nearby spot.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Apr 30, 2017
I'd like to give this place another shot, as I'm between a 3-4 on this one. I've heard rave reviews--- so I feel like I must have ordered wrong. They do have half off sushi Monday - Wednesday from 5-8.
Service was very slow.
Tuna roll was excellent. Very nice fish.
Spicy Ocean was really not that great. Not a lot of fish (mostly veggies).
Chicken satay was nice, good flavor and I liked the dipping sauce.
Nice outside seating option.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tiffany C.San Francisco, CA1959156Apr 2, 2019
We came in here with really high hopes, because the reviews were stellar. However, it was a disappointing experience. The food was mediocre, and the service was the slowest I've seen. Granted, we were a big party of 9, and we had a waiter on his first day.
We ordered sushi as appetizers. The sushi came out after our entrees though, and very sporadically. In the eel roll, we had about 90% cucumber and a tiny piece of eel. It was comical. The wine was served at least 20 minutes after we had ordered it. We asked for the Albarino, but realized we got served a Chardonnay instead.
When we asked for the checks, we had to wait about half an hour for the checks to get to our table, and then for our cards to be processed. I've never seen a payment process take so long. To say the least, this experience was disappointing and I won't be returning.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 845202424Sep 11, 2019
Singha is one of my fave places for sushi. It's all freshly made, has great taste, and is affordable. I ordered the shrimp tempura, some summer roll (has mangos which tasted refreshing), 2 octopus nigiri, and a seaweed salad. Service was amazing also. Would recommend to come here if you are looking for a nice and quiet sit in.

I want to give this place more stars, but after multiple bad experiences have finally settled on 3/5. While the food is usually good, the service has been pretty bad during COVID.
A few of the menu items I do recommend include: tom yum noodle soup, golden chicken fried rice, and the pad thai. The spice levels can be slightly inconsistent. I've ordered a "3" multiple times and sometimes its fairly spicy and other times not spicy at all.
The bad part now... the service during COVID has resulted in wrong wait times, cold food, and overall not a pleasant experience. On busy nights when there's a long line to pick up, they ask people to wait inside if there food isn't ready. Not a problem at all normally, but with the one person in the door limit they never go on to the next person inside. and instead just tell the person waiting to wait inside. My mothers day experience was waiting in line for over 45 minutes despite physically seeing my food just sit on the counter. While in line I even called them and they weren't willing to help. Instead the food just piled up, the line got longer, and the staff sat around until the one person sitting inside got their food. Just extremely inefficient and frustrating experience.
Giving them the benefit of the doubt we went back twice since then and they still do the same inefficient process. As a result we've started going to other places and Singha has moved down on our list of places to eat.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stacey V.Cincinnati, OH227100302Nov 22, 2019
Absolutely favorite sushi place in the city. It has become a date night tradition to try to identify the best sushi in the city. After going to Singha we stopped looking.
Last nights experience was no different. Singha has their own parking lot so finding a place to leave the car was super simple. Walk into the restaurant everything is neat clean and orderly. Seated immediately with no wait. Luckily not too many people know about this gem so we hardly have to wait for a table :)
After being seated the waiter brings our drinks and we are off to the races! last night we ordered a lot of sushi but tacked on the ramen as well since it was pretty chilly outside. The sushi was delicious as always. Full of delicious fish and the rolls are big! Compared to other sushi restaurants. My boyfriend and I always get a mix of speciality and common rolls to cut down costs and quite frankly both are tasty. We always leave satisfied.
After our sushi the Ramen came out. I have mixed feelings about the Ramen. We had tempura shrimp in ours. I never understand putting fried things in a soup... it just gets soggy and tastes greasy. I would rather have had steamed or boiled but whatever. The ramen noodles and veggies hadn't picked up the broth flavor but the broth itself was on point!!! So maybe the ramen here isn't the best in the city but it still hit the spot on a chilly evening. I don't expect a great sushi place to also be great at everything... So Ill let this slide.... I cant complain much...we licked the bowl clean...
Singha does specials during the week. M-W half priced sushi and they have some drink specials.
I always recommend Singha! I hope you stop by as well!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
