Guys. Guys. Guys. Do you remember, 5 years ago, when I was so sad that Sake House Miro's udon soup wasn't vegan? I'd even briefly wondered if this stupid vegan thing was even worth it (spoiler: it totally is, stick with it, baby vegans). WELL Sake House Miro now has an entire vegan menu, INCLUDING a vegan udon soup. Heavens.
It tasted exactly as I remembered, filled with thick, juicy noodles, silky spinach, and an umami-licious broth. It was like a journey back in time. I loved slurping up every noodle and barely even came up for air.
Bless you, Sake House Miro, for making eating vegan at your restaurant easy, delicious, and satisfying. Love you forever!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Jan 17, 2012Previous reviewI think the biggest heartache of my 2012 resolution to go totally vegan was finding out the udon soup here is made with fish broth. NOOOOO! This was my perfect late night comfort food, but alas. Ignorance was such bliss.
Tears and sobs aside, I still freaking love Sake House Miro. Open late, I can walk there, and the atmosphere inside makes La Brea just slip away. Their tempura uses eggs (sigh) so my most appealing option is a straight up avocado roll with brown rice. I know, pretty boring, but they do it REALLY well. The avocado is so smooth and they use nice fatty chunks, no skimping here. Sam really enjoys the Jidori Chicken Teppan and tells me it has great flavors. Any place where we can both eat well late at night without getting into the car is priceless.
And I love the staff!! So sweet, always remembers us, and answers all my annoying veggie questions. Even if my favorite noodles are no longer mine to have, this will remain a favorite hang out.Mar 20, 2011Previous reviewI gotta crush on the cutie down the road.
She's cozy, she's kitschy, and she's open when I need her the most. She gets me out of the rain and warms me up fast. What more could I want from a Tokyo-style pub?
I had a mad udon craving late last night after my flight from the east coast, but to my great sadness, Sake House Miro was closed for a party. It only deepened my desire, and tonight, I braved the torrential downpour to try her one more time.
I stepped past the red lanterns and fell a little bit in love. It was lively and warm, but not too crowded, and I was offered either a table or a seat at the bar. Dining alone, I always prefer the bar, so I settled in right next to the Star Wars arcade game.
Hungry and curious about the quality of their sushi, I sampled the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail ($4.50 each) before diving into the udon. The rice was too warm and sweet, but the salmon was very smooth. The tuna was the low point of the night, being both chewy and a little metallic. The yellowtail swung in the balance - the first one being chewy but the second much softer. I think next time, I would opt for salmon sashimi (which happens to be my favorite, so no loss!) and leave it at that.
Then came the udon. My mouth is still numb from when I burnt it with my first too-eager slurp, but once it cooled slightly, I felt the rain clouds part and my dreariness flee out the door. I have nothing in recent memory to compare it to, but no matter - if it's delicious, authenticity or whatever be damned. I wanted to eat every last drop, but my stomach filled quickly and I was forced to surrender.
Service was perfect. The two people working the floor were personable, friendly, kept an eye on my water glass, and mostly left me to my own devices. I'm always wary of dining solo in new places, in fear that it will be awkward and the waitstaff will actively take pity on me. Here, I was totally comfortable.
I think I'll stick to Starfish Sushi for local affordable, mediocre-but-decent sushi, but for Japanese beer and cooked food, wild horses couldn't keep me away. - Lan T.Los Angeles, CA586022Mar 7, 2024
Really good and fresh sushi. I was very satisfied with every roll I got. Definitely recommend this place. Definitely will be back. My new go to sushi spot.

This restaurant compelled me to end my inadvertent break from Yelp reviews to warn the masses. Don't eat here unless you also enjoy lighting paper money on fire for entertainment. The plates are laughably small and overpriced for an izakaya - we only ordered the yuzu pepper salmon ($13) and the mini ikura bowl ($8) and I experienced the worst buyer's regret of my 20s after the dishes came out. Quality was average but that hardly matters at this price.

The portions here are ridiculously small. We ordered 2 dishes just as a light snack but they were so small. See images for the ridiculous size of this. We got the mini Ikura Bowl ($8) and the salmon yuzu ($13) and the portion was literally 1/4 of an appetizer. With the amount of money you are paying and portion size that you receive, expect to spend literally $40-$50 a person to be full which literally goes against the entire spirit of izakaya which should be cheap affordable bar food. Yes, I understand "American" izakaya is more inflated but this is straight highway robbery. On top of that, they charge a 4.39% transaction fee on credit cards. Would not recommend this place unless you're ready to pay fine dining prices for izakaya food.

This place is very good! All the times that I've been here the experience is always pleasant. The service is the friendliest, Amy was amazing!
All their rolls are very good, but some of my favorites from the many are the chicken hearts and livers, you don't find those too often and they make them super tasty.
Also, they have this cool thing that you can get your bottle and come back and finish it on a different day. The place gets a bit got inside but they also have outside seating. Highly recommend this place!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1127750Dec 4, 2023
Truly average food and service, but does the job just fine if you just need your fix of predictable Japanese food with some drinks on the side with friends. The ambience inside is a bit divey but in a fun way, and I like how convenient this location is and how it's relatively easy to walk in for dinner. Would never be my first choice for genuinely special or remarkable Japanese cuisine, but a decent spot nonetheless.

Amaaaaaazing fresh mariscos! Best I've had outside of mexico. Prices are great and so are the portions! Prepare to wait because this place is no secret but it is totally worth it. Casual quick bite or dining with the fam. Service was amazing super attentive and fast and thorough :) highly recommend

Highly underrated restaurant! I can't believe I haven't been here yet, I am across the street at All Seasons all the time visiting my friends that work there. I got the mini ikura don and i think they marinate their ikura in house because it was phenomenal, salty and savory at the same time and so so fresh. It was a perfect mini amount as well. I also got the mini uni don and holy hell, the uni piece was HUGE and it was soooooooooo buttery. Idk where they get their uni but it was one of the best I've had recently. The tako wasabi was also perfect. It had the perfect amount of wasabi and the tako was so fresh and had a great texture. My friends also got some other things and they were all great but I wanted to highlight the three items i got. I'll definitely come back often!

Lovely place.
I knew I was getting in late on a Monday. Everything closes at 10pm except this late night gem. This spot was everything expected from reviews. Sapporo on draft an wider range of Japanese food & lots of vegetable dishes. I got shishitos, beef skewers, yellowtail scallion roll. Not really a high end sushi place but great fresh well made food.
Service was delightfully warm & friendly. I appreciated they found me a table where I could stash my carry-on bag nearby. Got some advice to try the seasoned shishitos over the skewer shishitos - and the waitress said if I didn't like them she'd get me the others - but she was spot on!
I'm so happy to find a new spot!
This is also across from the large outdoor brewery / Firestone place. Which probably has food but I'd much prefer to walk across for this.
Also there were about 3 tables of people speaking Japanese which is always a good sign.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jul 19, 2023
Just what I needed after a show at El Rey. So glad they were open late- midnight! Fresh yellow tail sashimi. High powered wasabi. Sizzling Bulgogi presented with a raw egg (cooks into bowl) served at your table. Sticky white rice. I wanted to order so much more. But this hit the spot. Fast, friendly service. Chill ambiance. Looking forward to return. Next time I'll order sake.
