This store is amazing. The woman who works here is so sweet and helpful. She showed me around the entire store, showed me a million different options, and explained the technique and meaning behind every single doll. She helped ensure I found the perfect nesting dolls for myself, my mom and my sister. They loved their gifts, and I couldn't be happier with the one I bought myself. I keep admiring the piece I bought because it's so beautiful.
There's a nesting doll for everyone here - large, medium, small. Highly detailed faces versus more traditional, simple faces. Ones with wood burning, others with oil paints. They come in every shape and size, and if you're not into the look of a traditional nesting doll, there are alternatives. She had U.S. Presidents, Santa, other Christmas themed ones, and quite a few character themed ones - including Disney characters.
There's also a large variety in prices. I spent $85 on a beautiful set with 10 dolls, and I also spent $25 on one with 6 dolls. No matter your price range or taste, you can find something that suits you here for sure!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1034215240440Sep 27, 2017
What a lovely store.
Walking around the area we came across Russian Treasure. Decided to take a look inside and met the friendliest employee. She was so sweet and knowledgeable, kindly giving us a brief history on these lovely Matryoshka dolls. I love the attention to detail and large variety. Such lovely pieces of art. Definitely on the pricier side but well made.
If you're looking for a unique gift for a loved one, this is a nice place to visit.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Carlo D.Seattle, WA166147Feb 19, 2018
My girlfriend and I were walking down the waterfront and came across this store. We purchased a 7-piece nesting doll from the nice storekeeper.
Would recommend again.
Just an FYI for the owner: as a tourist, it made me worry that the Square payment app went through twice before we settled and paying in cash. The charges from my credit card didn't post, so everything's good, but it makes it a stressful experience, nonetheless.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Petrea R.Mill Valley, CA5602Mar 5, 2018

This is such a cute little shop with a nice little Russian lady. If she's not Russian I don't care so much but I love her accent hah and she spoke very well... probably rehearsed but I was impressed. I wish I had money to spend because I'd love some Matryoshka dolls. They have some in lots of price ranges from $20 set and up. They're so beautifully detailed. And some even are Disney characters! Too cute, but I don't want those. I like the ones with little face expressions that change from doll to doll.
if you don't know what is Matryoshka dolls they are also called nesting dolls. You start with a big one and open it and there is a smaller one, open that one. There is a smaller one, open that too... and so on until you can't open anymore. They're adorable!! Or I'm just special hehe. I find them very interesting. And they have a website too! YAY!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marie B.South San Francisco, CA3126Jul 19, 2016
I personally had a wonderful experience at this cute little boutique. As someone that appreciates Russian culture, I found the atmosphere and products themselves to be extremely authentic. It's very obvious that all the sets are well-made and fairly priced. The sales associate was an adorable Russian lady. She was very educated about all the sets, and extremely passionate. The best part of the store is the wide selection of sets for literally any price range. I can't believe the amount of dolls could fit into this cozy boutique. I couldn't resist buying a doll for my dorm room as well as presents for my family and friends. I'll definitely be coming back!

Weird. I walked in and immediately felt uncomfortable. The lady working there recited an obviously memorized speech about her russian dolls. I tried my hardest to pretend I was interested. She basically forced us to listen to her entire speech. I would've rather her let us browse around and ask questions. The russian doll things were "hand-painted by the most famous artist in Russia" as stated by terribly made posters all over the store. It was hard for me to believe that the most famous artist in Russia didn't even have a name. So, to all you tourists, don't stop here. Just keep walking. It's amazing to me that this place is actually in business.

I stopped in while I was passing though SF and dropped into Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. I though the shopkeeper lady was very sweet and charming as she showed me a variety of dolls.
I didn't buy anything because she wouldn't haggle - and I could not bear the thought of coming home only to google it up and feel that I had been played for a tourist sucker.
But I don't live so very far from SF and I'll be back in there next time to buy a nice little set of the fancy painted dolls. They cost $105 for nicely painted sets of 5 pieces, the largest one 3" high, and I thought that was just the price to start the haggle. But she stood firm and would not entertain a lesser offer. I thought she would stop me on the way out (this has happened to me before in the Fisherman's Wharf camera stores). I never did find a better fine souvenier as I walked the rest of the Wharf shops.
In hindsight I wish I'd bought a set. I came home and could not "find the same dolls on ebay for twenty bucks" like I thought I would. I don't see any on line that are the same quality for much cheaper. The ones in the store were painted beautifully with butterflies and flowers... really cool.
Next time...
It's a nice shop. Maybe a little expensive but I don't think it would be fair to call it a tourist trap. And the shopkeeper was persistent, eager, warm, but nothing like pushy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - David H.Port Orchard, WA16423Jul 6, 2011
I found the shop keeper pushy and not helpful at all. Some of the doll sets were interesting but it looked like most were cheaply made and all of them were over priced. Definitely a tourist trap.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. As a store owner, I value critique because it helps me improve my store and create happy long term customers.
I opened my store in 1992. Since then, there must have been half a dozen stores on Fisherman's Wharf. Russian Treasure store is still running because I personally select every single piece of artwork I sell. I know all the artists personally and stand behind every product.
It looks like the sales person didn't do a good job at explaining the specifics of my store. I generally carry 2 types of products - traditional set of dolls and one of a kind sets of dolls that are more like museum quality. While all them are hand made, there is a visible difference in quality and price. So, I can understand that on surface the dolls may look expensive, but I can guaranty that they are NOT more expensive than the similar quality sets you can find in Russia itself. In fact, many of the sets I carry, you can't find anywhere else - the artists make very limited quantity and I buy them all. This is why I have such a high number of repeat customers and collectors.
Your feedback on a sales person being pushy is unusual. It's not the style that I promote in my store. I stress the importance of educating customers about the artwork and about the diversity of the artwork selection in my store.
Hope you find your way back into my store and have a better experience.
