Nice bed and breakfast within an easy drive to downtown Columbus and well priced as well. Dennis and Joyce Irwin bought the home in 1996 and spent many years restoring and furnishing with love and attention to detail. (Check out the doorknobs. )
Their years in the Peace Corp plus travels around the world are reflected in an eclectic blend of items scattered generously throughput the house.
I gave 4 stars due to the bed and pillows, not the most comfortable for me, especially the pillows. I didn't discover this until bedtime, to late to ask for feather or similar.
Breakfast was nice, great scrambled eggs, plenty to eat.
This is definitely a worth B&B!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Travis H.Muncie, IN231942Oct 31, 2017
My Partner and I had a wonderful visit to this stunning home and we were greeted by hospitable and well informed owners Joyce and Dennis. The room was large and very accommodating, we spent our later hours of the night in their colorful living room space; furnishing and walls each have an intriguing story adding so much personality to the remarkable home. A real treat, at the affordable rate and location we will surely return again without a doubt!

We stayed in Martha's room which had a whirlpool in the room. It was nice. The foam bed was comfortable. The amenities were of poor quality and had funny chemicals and dyes. The breakfast was on time and was decent. We both agreed that it was standard complementary hotel quality with more showmanship: precooked bacon, "maple" syrup, bleached flour pina colada pancakes, funny bright red (40!) cinnamon syrup on sliced bananas with yogurt and a sprinkle of nutmeg, etc.
If you're looking for a comfortable place and aren't a foodie, this place will do. It was very clean, had a comfortable bed, and bottled water.
I won't be staying here again on my travels but do not regret the stop.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Roxanne A.Chicago, IL7643Jan 7, 2017
We were looking for somewhere quiet to spend New Year's Eve and thanks to an old NPR article declaring Columbus, Indiana as an architectural mecca, we found our quiet holiday destination!
The B&B itself is gorgeous! Well-maintained grounds, clean, and an amazing history to the inn. The inn is not without modern touches - ability to pay by credit card, wifi, etc. so you can still upload your pictures to your various social media sites. :-p
The owners are simply wonderful! The couple who owns the inn were former Peace Corps volunteers (where they met!) and have one part of the house decorated with the lovely Ethiopian art pieces they brought back from Africa. The owners are also very active in the Columbus community and volunteer as tour guides - this was extremely useful when the visitors center was closed and they very generously gave us an oral history of the town and certain sites.
For some B&B's, I've felt beholden to have LONG, drawn-out conversations with the owners. Not so here! The owners get a good sense of their visitors and know exactly how much their guests like! And OMG - they have some amazing stories. They definitely get a sense for their guests, because the other guests who were staying with them that New Year's Eve? Repeat guests! They all got along so well, they played games and invited us to that night as well.
The owners not only know conversation, history, travel, and how to upkeep a historic inn, but they are VERY kind people. My boyfriend left his special neck pillow at the inn. The owners shipped it to us immediately after our stay.
We certainly hope to return before the owners sell the inn (currently up for sale)!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - MK B.Indianapolis, IN05Nov 2, 2014
This is a charming b&b located just one mile from downtown Columbus, IN. The owners are extremely friendly and hospitable, and welcome guests with complimentary snacks, water/soda, and excellent amenities. The house was built in the late 1800s and while the owners spent many years renovating it, the house still holds much of its original Victorian charm. There are 4 guest rooms on the second floor, all generously sized. The room we stayed in had a jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and private balcony overlooking the large yard and garden- definitely worth the extra $30 for the upgrade!
The innkeepers made a fabulous breakfast in the morning. A beginning course of a fruit parfait, followed by a buffet style meal including horseradish eggs, pumpkin pancakes, glazed bacon, fresh pineapple, and pastries. We ate breakfast with the other guests and Dennis, the innkeeper, who entertained us with stories from his many travels.
This is a charming place I would definitely recommend for anyone who is looking for a weekend or one night getaway.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alvah L.Saint Louis, MO11022Dec 17, 2013First to Review
This is a spectacular bed and breakfast. No cheap, but less expensive than some other snootier spots in town. Very friendly and intimate. They serve a lovely breakfast 'en famille". One of the nicest stays I have ever had.
