During Fall of 2018,We stayed at this Residence Inn for a nice and long 7 days and we sure enjoyed our stay. Residence Inn is located in Portland downtown convention center, it was a very convenient location for us. Upon checking in, the front desk associate was super friendly, checking in was quick and easy. I was also surprised to receive a nice elite gift, a small bag of groceries which was perfect for our room and also received Marriott Elite gift of either points or 10.00 marketplace credit.
Note, Parking is 25.00 per night and since we were here for 7 days, we tried to save money on parking, we parked on the street a few nights, we found parking very close by to the hotel.
What I love about this hotel:
The suite are nice, cozy, spacious, with a fireplace, full kitchenette and comfy beds.
I love the landscapes, pretty trees, garden, friendly staff, Paul Mitchel toiletries, cofffee, tea, and lemon water station at the front desk, complimentary breakfast, and the MIX.
My first time enjoying the MIX. The MIX, which is available Mon-Wed evenings, comes with food and beverages in a social atmosphere. We enjoyed the Monday MIX's which was off the grill theme, we made brisket sliders with baked beans, fruits, chips, and a nice selection of alcoholic beverages. I wanted to join in on Wednesday's MIX which was a food truck theme, I think price range from $7.00-10.00, but we didn't make it back to hotel in time.
The front desk is where the complimentary breakfast and MIX is held, I love the cozy atmosphere of it. The fireplace in front, the television, so spacious with both downstairs and upstairs dining area. This is where the coffee, tea, lemon water, and computer work station are located.
What I don't like about this hotel, the bathrooms, it is super tiny for such a spacious suite. I am not sure if it is the same for the rest of the rooms. When I took a shower, I had a hard time with the the knob to turn on water.
You can hear the foot steps from the floor above.
This hotel is very convenient and within walking distance to lots of restaurants and shops such as Lolyd Center Mall, Holladay Park, and Imax Movie theater. I wanted to take a walk to check it out but never enough time when on vacation. Also close to Max light rail, MODA center, Rose Quarter, Memorial Coliseum, Oregon Convention Center & Dutch Brothers. I had to make a stop at Dutch Brothers mostly every night before we got back to our hotel.
Overall, My family sure enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again!!Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 0 - Dec 8, 2017
We stayed here for a couple nights right after Thanksgiving, whilst a basketball tournament was going on just down the road. This place is incredibly convenient for getting just about anywhere we wanted to go in the downtown area.
It was about a 10 minute walk from the Moda center, A 15 minute walk from voodoo donuts (the second one), in less than five minutes from Broadway, where a number of really solid restaurants are located.
Between all of our family members that were here, we were able to sample a number of the different room types. The studios were adequate for a couple adults, and A couple kiddos, as long as they can sleep on the pullout couch or on the floor. Another family shared a two bedroom which was dubbed "The penthouse ". This was much more adequate for a family of four. It included the standard kitchen, a lounging room, a downstairs bedroom that was completely sectioned off and an upstairs bedroom that was a loft area. It was much more conducive to putting the kids to bed and then continuing to hang out.
The free breakfast in the morning was excellent. Good amount of food options including fruit, yogurt, eggs, meat and biscuits with gravy. There's an endless supply of coffee in the main area, as well as the market place where you can pick up smaller items and snacks.
The folks here are ever pleasant and Go out of their way to make sure people are taken care of. It was a great spot to be staying when we needed to be downtown, and realistically it would probably be a fun place regardless of where you're going, given how close it is to everything. It's definitely a place we will be looking into any time we come down here.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 25, 2018
I have weird feelings about this establishment. On the surface, it truly looks like it's a 4 star hotel but when you go through your room, you'll notice that it's not really clean. Everything's just literally swept up under the rug.
When I opened the closet of my room, it was so dusty I started to sneeze. I began pulling out the extra pillows and blankets from there to put on the pullout couch and noticed lipstick stains and black hairs. It felt like no one opened that door since the 90's and it was whack.
3 stars since parking was easy. You can just park on the street the hotel is on since it's always free. Don't pay $25 to park in the lot. Seriously. Just walk 3 minutes to the road and park right next to the hotel.
Also, the breakfast was top notch. Fresh fruit, chobani yogurt, bagels, etc. Tea and coffee were basic.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 72747Apr 8, 2018
In town on business and needed a low-key camping spot. This place is clean, has a adequate kitchen with full-sized fridge, stove, dishwasher and a "reasonable" assortment of dishes. Could cook, we didn't. Ample parking but it could get crowded. Has a outdoor pool, not of much interest in March, a weekly managers happy hour that could be dinner, a very helpful staff and comfy beds. You can order groceries and they have on-site laundry.
Negatives are the narrow stairs, covered but not fun lugging suitcases and other crap to the upper floor and a card entry system that can take a few try's to get the door open. Not big things but annoying.
A weird detail is the actual log-burning fireplace. Comes with an expensive "log" and kind of creeps me out in a multi unit building.
So yes, not a lovely room in a nice downtown hotel, no bar, no restaurant but pretty nice and much cheaper. Tip if driving- check out the variety of ways to leave the parking lot- better ways than the main entrance.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 11, 2019
I stayed her for a night while visiting Portland. Friendly staff. Great large room. Bed was comfy. Clean. Kitchen was useful. Great breakfast that was included. It also had a pool but did not use. Good location. Overall it was good experience.

We were attending a big tournament at the moda center and found the residence inn within walking distance. It's about a mile, but it's an easy walk. The rooms are nicely appointed and one obvious selling point is that you can cook all of your own food in your room. My studio style room has a small kitchenette, a couch, a 32 inch TV, a queen bed, a desk and chair, a small kitchen table with a couple of seats, and a nice little bathroom.
For as much as these rooms cost it always bugs me when they stick bottled water in there and want $4 for it. I get it that I don't have to drink it but it's always an ordeal keeping the kids from opening it! My particular room has a fireplace in it, but it will cost you $8 if you burn the Duraflame log that they have in it! For me it certainly wasn't worth it.....
Breakfast was really nice and included a couple different types of sausage, scrambled eggs, all the standard continental breakfast items, and a nice variety of juices to drink!
If the prices are somewhat comparable I always prefer a Residence Inn. Not having to eat out all the time and the nice breakfast are selling points for me! This is a great setup and I'd highly recommend it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 19714292194Jan 18, 2019Updated review
What a difference a few years makes! I stayed here again but this time we stayed in a loft which essentially had two rooms. It was actually pretty spacious and perfect for four people. So much more comfortable! I would stay here again but only in the loft room.
Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 26, 2015Previous reviewRooms were ok. We had 4 people staying in a 1 bedroom with a pull out couch. The pull out couch was seriously uncomfortable and the mattress had obvious stains on it. But once we put the sheets on it was a-ok!
The room was pretty large and basically had a full kitchen in it.
They have both breakfast and happy hour. We tried the happy hour one night and the food was meh. However, you get free beer! That's a win right there. We also tried the breakfast in the morning which wasn't great either, we just got some juice and yogurt to go then went on to find our own breakfast.
Overall, rooms were ok and on the pricey side. Might try somewhere different if I were in Portland again. - Fereen A.Hayward, CA31148726Sep 30, 2016
We had a great experience for our 3 day stay at Residence Inn. The staff at the front desk were nice and very attentive. We were not satisfied with our initial room (had a smell) and the staff (Ashley) took care of us with an upgrade to a bigger room. The rooms are spacious and very clean. I love the fact that it came with 2 separate bathrooms; its great if you are sharing the room with families.
They have a complimentary breakfast everyday from 6:30 am - 9;:30 am, complimentary drinks and appetizer from M-Wed 6:00pm-7:30pm. Additionally, they have a Moroccan food truck that comes by Wednesday evenings. Their food is very delicious.
They have a swimming pool, business center and exercise room. The exercise room is very small and only has 3 equipment. Its really hard to workout in the tiny room.
I will certainly stay here again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tim C.Las Vegas, NV0264Oct 12, 2017
Ok so I almost burned this place down. Oops.
Front office staff was very accomodating. I had a couple issues at check in regarding some forms that I forgot to bring. They were real patient with me, despite the growing line.
They stuck me in a studio on the upper floor that looked over the street. The view was fantastic, with the trees changing colors, something I don't see in my hometown. It's a standard studio with a bed, kitchen, microwave, fridge, pots and pans...it was overkill for a single business traveler who expenses his meals anyway, but I'm not gonna complain. I know where I'm gonna stay next time I'm on vacation with the kids.
There's also a fireplace. An actual wood-burning fireplace, no joke. My fireplace at home turns on with a flip of a switch. Oh, but not his one. This fireplace had something called a duralog in it. I assumed you just put a match on it and it will light. Fucking WRONG! I won't get into the details in case the staff is reading this, but my first night there consisted of me sleeping with the windows open to get the smoky smell out, and running to the store at 2:30am to replace that duralog thing.
Pros: Great staff, free hot breakfast, clean rooms
Cons: Parking was $15
There's lots of on-street parking along the hotel and the neighborhood was safe so parking cost might not even be an issue.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Derek F.Edmonton, Canada2425411Aug 8, 2018
I'm in and out of Portland all the time, often last minute, so staying downtown is price prohibitive on these occasions. This is often not a problem because the breweries and eateries I mostly want to visit are East of the river anyway. I find that when I visit Portland, I tend to visit downtown only once or twice, usually for some of the better beer bars, some new and unique restaurant or to go to the Saturday market. Finding a decent hotel in the Lloyd area is a perfect compromise because it provides easy access to downtown and the airport, via MAX, and it's situated centrally between the Alberta Arts District and all the good breweries and restaurants in Buckman, Sunnyside, and Ladd's.
On this latest trip, a bright star appeared in my travel app. The residence Inn is not a place I would normally stay unless I was travelling with the family. A kitchen is nice, but not necessary with all the food options. However, it was reasonably priced and as I said above, in a central location. Plus it included breakfast, which is a nice bonus.
When I checked in, I had mistakenly missed the first night of my stay as I was arriving after midnight and forgot to add a day. It was a Thursday, so rooms were still available, so I was able to add a room to my stay. The desk clerk added the room at the same rate I had booked, and not the rack rate. I don't know if this is standard practice, but I was happy for it. And mentioning the nighttime desk clerk, I should also note that I often arrive at hotels very late and have a lot of experience with night clerks at hotels. They are often not up to the task, but this person knew what they were doing and had me checked in and onto my room in minutes.
The hotel is laid out like a little community of walk ups. Something like 12 apartments to a building with nice paths between them and an outdoor barbecue. Attached to the main building is an outdoor pool and there's also a tennis court.
I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the room. It was spacious, really spacious (600 sq. ft). It had a kitchen with a small table, living room and the bed was set away from the living room and kitchen area. I could happily stay here with the family as it came with a sofa bed. The bed was pretty comfortable too.
Along with the community feel and the feeling of being in a small apartment, it felt like I had just moved to Portland. And that's a nice feeling.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
