About the Business
Welcome to Pioneers Park Nature Center... 668 acres of tallgrass prairie, woodlands, wetlands and the Haines Branch stream. Since 1963 the Nature Center has served the Lincoln area as an environmental education center and wildlife sanctuary. Eight miles of hiking trails wind through various habitats and take visitors past hawks, owls, bison, elk, and deer. Two interpretive buildings house hands-on and small animal exhibits. The Edna Shield's natural play area for Children provides a place for kids to dig, build and climb. Prairie, bird, children's and herb gardens with many labeled specimens are both beautiful and instructive. Programming includes a preschool, nature camps, school hikes, scout badge work, birthday parties, special events and a variety of other classes for all ages. The Nature Center is open 362 days a year. Admission is free, suggested donations $3/person, $5/family

Pioneer Park is one of the best attractions in Nebraska.
This park has it all (puts on SNL Stefon voice):
-History (the pillars that were part of the original treasury building)
-Culture (the statue and story of Red Cloud)
-Nature (the beautiful scenery and ponds)
-Wildlife (the buffalo/deer/etc)
And it is just a few minutes from Lincoln and a short drive from Omaha!
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, but still adventurous, activity!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 25, 2021
I was looking for another fun park to do some exploring. I found this and decided to check it out - there is so much here to see. I really wish I had known and found the older exploratory part of the park earlier in the day - I spent too much time on the picnic-y parts of the park, but I enjoyed it. The signs were a little bit misleading - there are parts of the exploritory area that are closed to the public but there was no warning of that when you were heading that way.
I actually really enjoyed the bird observatory and the bridge. It was such a hot day but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Yelena S.Fourth Ward, Houston, TX079Nov 15, 2021
A lot of trails, cosy quiet places, water features, everything for a beautiful family outing on a cool sunny day. One of my favorite nature places in Lincoln. Still haven't explored every part of it. Looking forward though. Dogs are allowed on leash, except for narrow hiking trails.

Nice park with a decent playground and numerous paved and not paved trails to hike. Plenty of picnic areas with tables. The nature center offers animals to pet and helpful guides as well as a gift shop. Down the road from the nature center are bison.

A wonderful park in Lincoln, Nebraska.
This is a 668 acre nature preserve with over eight miles of trails, several ponds, two interpretive buildings and a full program of activities.
I love to sit and watch the buffalo.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda P.Lincoln, NE12232Dec 30, 2015
The Nature Center is the best. Kids love to run around, it's rarely crowded, and it's always free. They have special events for the kiddos throughout the year, and fundraisers catered toward adults. Plus, we love the hayrack rides. Fall is the most wonderful time to visit! You can become a member to help support the Nature Center and be the first to learn about upcoming events.

The nature center is a good place to visit. You can walk through a nature walk, see elk, buffalo, and a variety of birds and other critters. It was an enjoyable visit. We have been to the park itself which is a large place with trails and lakes for exercise, fishing, and even a launch pad for sleds in the winter. At the entrance is a gift shop and some exhibits also.
