So we rolled up into Key West on Labor Day weekend without a hotel reservation (bad idea) and came across this adorable little house that didn't have a 'no' ahead of the 'vacancy' sign. The lovely Aussie who answered the door quoted us a great price and offered to show us the room she had available, but not before warning us that "we have a clothing optional pool, and some of our guests are 'optional' at the moment." Sold!

While we didn't participate in the pool festivities, we had a good stay here. The room was adorable and had a little kitchenette and balcony. No tub in the bathroom, just a shower stall. The location of the hotel is great.

If you're looking for a quiet little hotel, this isn't it. It might look like a sleepy B&B from the outside, but there were people in the pool and/or hottub being crazy loud right outside our window until well past 2 am. I know, it's a party town, and I'm usually a night owl, but we had plans early the next day and I couldn't sleep. Yup, I'm old. Not as old as most of the naked people in the pool, though. *shudder*

We stayed here last February and are due back in just a couple weeks. We had a great time. The accommodations were great, the staff very friendly and the location is great. We stayed in one of the more modern rooms, right by the pool.

Another review indicated it was loud - we didn't find that to be the case during our stay - but maybe February is a more sedate time of year.

Yep - no swimming suits in the pool or hot tub - but once you've tried it - swimming suits seem silly.

We'll be here 2/19-2/24. Anyone interested in sharing a boat rental?

My wife and I stayed here on our first trip to Key West earlier this year.

We found out after the fact that the pool is clothing optional, but, luckily, we didn't see any loose "equipment". This won't scare us off for next time because we enjoyed our stay tremendously.

The price is right for Key West in the high season, the location is great, and the accommodations are acceptable. It isn't the Ritz, but how much laying around in your room are you planning on doing in Key West???

Make sure to ask Virginia where to go and what to see. She's full of stories that will put a smile on your face.

We are on our second day here and the only bad thing I can say is I wish we had found this place earlier. It is fantastic. The rooms are great, the atmosphere is fun and Daniel is a gentleman who ensures your time here is perfect.

The pool is clothing optional so you will see people naked. But everyone is cool and respectful. If you don't partake it isn't weird at all. To each their own.

It's closing in November so if you are coming before then it's a must stay.

I am so sad to see that the Pilot House is closed! My husband and I have many wonderful memories here! Before we got married, he was stationed in Miami and I was home in MD...I loved our getaways to the Pilot House when I would visit him in FL. One special weekend he proposed and we were given the best room upon our arrival much to our surprise thanks to the very thoughtful owners! We are now planning our 20th anniversary in 2018 - our obvious destination was the Pilot House, but sadly it's not meant to be...thanks for the memories!!

We have stayed at Pilot House at least a half-dozen times over the past 20 years, and we love the place. We always reserve the same room - a VERY LARGE double queen on the second floor of the mansion (built at the turn of the last century) that has a HUGE private balcony and a full kitchen with micro, stove, fridge and dishes/pots and pans.

Virginia and Daniel both respond quickly to any question or request - they are wonderful.

The location is ideal - nice and quiet, but only a 3-minute walk to Duval Street. Fausto's Food Palace (grocery) is right around the corner for days when you don't feel like eating in restaurants.

Pilot House is about to close for renovations for about 18 months, so check ahead if you plan to stay there.

NO BREAKFAST. $50 charge if you lock yourself out of your room. $20/day to park. We weren't given the password to the wireless and when we went to use it the front desk clerk had gone home. Uncomfortable bed, but the room was grand. Very spacious. Great layout. Great shower. Loved the hot tub. Be prepared to see naked; clothing optional. GREAT location.

What happened to the pilot house? The phone is disconnected and they don't return email. Did they shut down? Anyone know?

You guys are fantastic! We were so late due to delayed flights and they accommodated us in every way. The pool, hot tub and porch area of our room was dreamy. We had a room size shower area, in room whirlpool tub, and kitchenette. Highly recommended, will return!
