Best Indian food in the Portland metro area! Even if you are not a vegetarian or vegan, you have to try this place! The dishes are always fresh and perfectly spiced. I had given up on finding consistently good Indian food in or around PDX; then I tried Maruti. I love the dal and the palak paneer. And if you love masala chai like I do, theirs is absolutely delicious!

Absolutely delicious Indian food.
Though we like everything we've tried on the menu, our favorites include the famous tikki masala, which we order with all three ingredients -- paneer, potatoes, and mushrooms. One of our friends claims one of the most satisfying meals in Portland is a bowl of Maruti's tikka masala and an order of naan. We also like the mushroom biryani with raita, as well as the daal tadkaa and the palak paneer. Perfectly prepared naan. Gluten-free naan is also an option.
The menu is small enough for the orders to come our reasonably fast, and the service is always prompt and cordial. Delightful ambiance. Get there early, especially on the weekends, because the tables fill up fast.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 29, 20241 check-in
Wow, my buddy loves this place and we went in yesterday. So cute, intimate space with lots of small, meaningful touches.
Greeted by the owner, who's just a unique and hospitable soul--and mixed a mean drink!
Food is wonderful, and all plant- or-Indian dairy-based from what I could see, and it's just so well done.
The Tikka is rich, spiced and luxurious.
The onion fritters are the best I've ever had, and so well fried. Not greasy and I could see them traveling good.
I would recommend, as we did, ordering some papadam (masala of course), for some crunch with your meal--just some advice, as all the velvet-like dishes are so, haha, like they are!
I will be back to try the spinach-based curry! Yum! Hands-down, the most intentional Indian spot I've been to in Portland.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

In the groovy vibes of Maruti, Lydia was a cosmic burst ,
Her farewell, like a kaleidoscope twirl, left my heart immersed .
Lydia, the free spirit of vegan delights,
Her aura, a dance through Maruti's flavorful heights .
Her exit echoes like a jamming guitar's riff,
The space she left, an open chord, a celebration, not a grief .
With each vegan dish, I'm groovin' to her grace,
Lydia, the cosmic waitress, her vibes in every culinary space .
Oh Lydia, Lydia, the heartshift is profound,
Maruti's atmosphere, now tinged with a newfound sound .
Her service, a groove, like a beatnik's rhyme,
I find solace in the memories, a rhythmic dance in every bite .
In the tapestry of thoughts, Lydia's name glows,
A luminary, the greatest waitress Maruti ever chose .
Oh Lydia, Lydia, my heart sings the vibe,
In the spiritual banquet, your presence remains alive .
As the cumin-scented winds of nostalgia gently sway,
I'm transported to moments of Maruti, basking in Lydia's play .
Vegan dishes now tell tales of cosmic trails,
Each flavor a journey, where Lydia's spirit prevails .
With every morsel, I taste the echoes of her flair,
Lydia's essence lingers, a love beyond compare .
In the cosmic dance of Maruti, Lydia led the way,
Her footsteps etched in memories, a culinary sway .
Oh Lydia, Lydia, in the gastronomic lore,
Your legacy persists, an eternal encore .Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Akash P.Atlanta, GA1163167May 8, 2024
Wow, where do I even begin? Just one word: DELICIOUS!! I'll be honest, Indian food outside usually doesn't sit too well with my stomach, but this place? Absolute game-changer - it was seriously amazing, top-notch stuff! When I walked in, they seated me right away, and within five minutes, the place was buzzing with people. Talk about timing! We ordered three dishes along with some garlic and rosemary naan, and let me tell you, every single bite was pure bliss. And get this - they even serve alcohol, although I didn't give it a whirl this time around. Still, good info to have! What really impressed me was that their bread is organic and vegan - how awesome is that? The interior space might be small, but it's incredibly cozy. And the menu? Oh boy, it's packed with options! You betcha this place is going straight to the top of my list for places to revisit when I'm back in town. Honestly, I can't wait!

We ordered paneer tikka masala, chana masala, vegetable biryani and butter naan. There are not many places that offers authentic vegetarian Indian food. Their menu is short and service is quick even during those rush hours. The entree's comes with rice and portion size is good too.
Small and cute place and I would recommend the to everyone.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2023
Small vegan Indian restaurant. The food is delicious albeit vegan. Once of the unique dishes served as an appetizer was the Bhel Purri - a Bombay (Mumbai) street fair that's extremely popular with the locals. We tried Indian beer and also an Indian wine - do yourself a favor, skip Indian wine :-D (I tried Indian wine at another restaurant too so take my word for it)
The place is small so reservations are recommended.
We've been thinking of trying it out again but this time with another couple so we can share a larger number of their dishes. Indian is best done family style so that translates into it being ideal if your party consists of four or six.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Monique F.Portland, OR12012Jan 22, 2024
First time ordering food from here, after reading the reviews I was excited to try this restaurant. I ordered my favorite dishes but it was severely underwhelming & disappointing. I used a delivery service & everything arrived cold, the food wasn't packaged well & didn't taste that great reheated. The vegetarian/vegan tax is REALLY high at this place for such small portions. To be honest this whole order was unappealing & ended up being a waste of money. The salad had wilted + slimy pieces of lettuce & not so fresh/brown avocado pieces. The slice of cheesecake was so skinny and from a local company (Rawdacious) that usually sells the same slice for $7 at the grocery stores. The naan was so small, flaky, & thin, it was a cracker like texture & had no garlic or butter taste. The Baingan Bharta & Palak Paneer were both flavorless & watery. You wouldn't expect for items that were $17 & $18 each that they would share one small container of rice between the two plates, it felt like huge a rip off!
Perhaps eating in would be a different experience but as far as my first experience I would never recommend this place or try it again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rahul A.Tracy, CA12027Jan 15, 2024
I expected the least and was still disappointed in the quality of the food.
I ordered the bhel puri and the chana bhatura for takeout. I picked up the takeout almost immediately after it was ready.
The bhel puri was entirely soggy with minimal additions, the chana bhatura was extremely mild and watery, and the bhatura was fried for far too long and therefore not fluffy at all. They also forgot to pack the rice for the chana bhatura.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1
