Big fan alert - I'm giving this place a 4 for lunch (chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, carrots, and salad), a 5 for breakfast (biscuits and gravy, hash browns, and bacon), and an E for effort for the servers. This place is hopping at lunch time and there's only a tiny vestibule in which to wait. It's shared with people picking up to go orders. So several people end up waiting out in the heat. They're real firm here that they don't want you standing there with the door open either. My lunch was good, in fact it was downright tasty. We had a delightful server named Barbara (past retirement age and decked out in sparkly purple). She made sure we got what we needed.
We were offered refills by a male we thought was a member of the wait staff, but I've decided he was on the clean up team. He offered refills and didn't follow through several times over the three times this week we were there. (Conference at a hotel close by)
Breakfast was just delish. The bacon was well cooked, the biscuits were fluffy and tasted like homemade and the gravy didn't taste like it was out of a packet. In my opinion, that's a score.
The food was good and our servers were nice, but they all seemed a little grim. Like maybe they were a little worn out. I have no idea what it's like to work in such a busy place, but they handled it and our random requests with grace.
I would definitely go back here. I enjoyed the food a lot.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Steve S.Fort Worth, TX010962Apr 20, 2024
I chickened out and ordered the CFS with mashed potatoes, baked squash, Mac and cheese. My wife ordered the meatloaf, Mac and cheese, greens and baked squash.
CFS was ok, nothing outstanding. My wife's meatloaf was excellent. Squash so-so, other vegetables were very good.
Chocolate Pie was just ok.
Definitely good for the price.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1094971944Jan 1, 2024

We were in for breakfast. Pancakes were fluffy, light, and perfect-fresh. Syrup was warm-love that! Bacon serving was crispy, not greasy, large portion. Eggs were also not greasy-just right. Grits were creamy/smooth-not watery-large portion.
Summary
Local chain-great food-attentive service. My husband loved it so much-he brought me. Super daily specials. Very popular especially to go food. Recommended to many friends already.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2023Updated review
Unfortunately today's breakfast felt like they've lost a step....while I've been here several times since the "great shut down" the food seemed average today
Everyone's trying to cut corners while maintaining quality and good prices. However, they're on the edge of, at least my breakfast was. I'll just chalk it up to an off morning in the kitchen.
I'm definitely not giving up on them after years of awesome breakfast and lunches..
I'll Be Back!Helpful 50Thanks 9Love this 37Oh no 4Oct 24, 2017Previous reviewAs good as ever. Today there was a special unexpected event. A gentleman that's a regular at the diner was in the house with a couple of Dallas morning news guys. They are writing a story about him turning 100! He downed all of his left much like he was twenty and appears to be in great shape. The entire staff sang happy birthday after they brought him chocolate cream pie! The food her is always good and breakfast always available. The biscuits are perfect.
Feb 28, 2015Previous reviewI really like to come here for breakfast on week days because you get to see people from all walks of life stating their day. While the food itself is pretty good the overall experience of the location, people and cafe itself. Make this place better. The pancakes and sausage are really good and the lunches are tasty.
Jan 9, 2015Previous reviewGood predictable and fairly reasonable blue plate fare. Ive been here several times over the last 2 years and the service is always speedy and friendly. The food is always tasty.
Ive had both breakfast and lunch and been satisfied. All in all I recommend you go especially if you enjoy the vanishing species of hole in the wall diner. - Kajmir K.Lancaster, CA53463Mar 19, 2024
Now this was just what the doctor ordered. Originally from California , I wanted a breakfast or brunch meal that tasted just like home. My goodness did Mamas deliver. Fried pork chops, scrambled eggs with cheese, and probably the best hash-browns I've ever tasted!! French toast and syrup to die for! Service was phenomenal and quick!

Just west of downtown design near Design District, you'll find Mama's Daughters' Diner.
Immediately upon walking in the ambiance gives off as the local neighborhood breakfast spot. It's extensive menu allows for multiple options to customize breakfast favorites. Not to mention the low prices make it that much better. Servers continues float the floor offering coffee refills.
Mama's Daughters' is definitely worth of try if you desire local over chain!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 10891223Apr 23, 2023
I've been coming to this Mama's Daughters' Diner location for years (I live right around the corner). A lot of their items are great (pancakes, biscuits, onion rings, fries, yams), while other items are not so great (waffles, French toast, cornbread, breakfast potatoes, cinnamon roll). Even when it looks busy from the outside, you never really have to wait that long for a table. The service is decent, nothing outstanding. The interior has a lot of the diner's history inside. Multiple visits show you something different you haven't seen before.
Overall, there are probably equally good or better diners out there in the DFW area. However, this is a really good diner! I do recommend visiting, but just know that you have to be willing to just try a bunch of things to see what you like or don't like from here (because some things I thought would be good or bad were the opposite).Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cindy W.Sterrett, AL15798Apr 6, 2024
Great breakfast spot! I got the French Toast which was perfect. Our daughter got the veggie only and has brown which she said was very good. Our son got bacon,gravy/biscuits and pancakes which he devoured. Busy place,so you may have to wait a minute for your food.

DO NOT ORDER ON UBER EATS AND EXPECT YOUR FOOD DELIVERED WHEN PROMISED. I chose this restaurant strictly based on a 10-20 delivery time. Never have I waited so long for scrambled eggs. I called two times for an update and was told "couple more minutes". I never got to eat the food because of the hour long wait time. (Traveling for business)

This place was absolutely great. I wanted some hearty southern style breakfast and that's exactly what I got. I ended up ordering the chicken fried chicken steak with biscuits eggs and hash browns.
This place is not for the faint of heart. The food is hearty and served in large portions. But mama didn't raise no baby so I obviously held my own and cleaned my plate. I came here borderline starving and left here utterly content.
The service was also top notch. The staff treats everyone like family. If you are ever in Dallas or Fort Worth area and looking for breakfast this is the place to be.Helpful 0Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 0 - 3984856Jun 12, 2023
Great tradition food diner that offers a variety of tasty food items that are inexpensive with generous portions. Parking is not great because they're busy at times but it's worth the effort if you have to walk or wait. I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner items and I haven't been disappointed so far. The last visit it was extremely cold but they wouldn't do anything about that so we dealt with it for the time we were there. Food was good and service good. If you're looking for "home cooking" in a diner, this is the place!
