I just started working out with Locomotion. I'm used to sticking strictly with Pilates. I'm so glad I tried this out and got outside. The sessions are so fun! It's the right amount of challenge and for the right amount of time. I've only gone to 3 classes and I'm already shaping up! Thanks Locomotion!

I joined Locomotion in November of 2022, and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. As a runner I had neglected strength training, and was running taped up. While I had had some exposure to strength training, I wanted to take it to the next level and after some IG stalking I found Loco. I am feeling the strongest I have ever felt in all my years and this makes me so happy as I am soon to enter a new decade of my life (50). Since I have joined I have gained muscle and lost fat. If you are looking for a place that supports you and motivates you, look no further. I love every coach here, James, Alex, Britta, Eric and Liz. They put a lot of effort into making sure you have great form before you start lifting the heavy stuff. If you need additional coaching they have options, as well as nutritional coaching. And it doesn't end here, the other Loco members welcome you and cheer you on as you PR. As of today, I can do 3 unassisted pull ups in a row, 12kg kettlebell snatches, barbell squats, and this is just to name a few.

I've worked out at so many group fitness facilities in SD and this one was super unique on so many good ways. First, they have real barbels! Next, the programming is great starting off the week heavy/explosive, tapering down towards the end of the week. The coaches are super knowledgeable and really helped cue my form to not hurt myself and even lift heavier at the same time!

Since moving to San Diego last year, I have tried a handful of gyms that simply didn't align with how I like to work out. I also met trainers that gave a lot of lip service and didn't live up to my expectations. I found Locomotion Athletics through word of mouth and have been extremely happy since. The owner and lead trainer, James, is knowledgeable, professional, and knows exactly what he is doing. As long as you come with an open mind and with the expectation that you are going to put in the work, James will work with any skill set and be your number one cheerleader. From beginner to advanced levels of fitness, the classes are a blend of both. I can say from personal experience, everyone is humble, friendly, and happy to help. If you are looking for small group classes, expert and intentional training, and a fun environment, this is your place.

I'm glad a friend of mine referred me to Locomotion Athletics and introduced me to James! Half the battle with working out is staying motivated but here there is no shortage of energy and motivation with the smaller fitness classes, challenging workouts and great music to keep you going! I was referred by one of my coworkers to Locomotion recently and so far I have been extremely impressed. The enthusiasm behind both the coaches and the members, as well as the very warm welcome that I received does not go unnoticed! James and Darrick and Locomotion Athletic family is exactly what I was looking for. Locomotion Provides the flexibility of schedule to allow me to put a workout in before work in a fun and engaging class setting.
The guys are actually following-in closely on your progress and keep a constant eye on form and performance.
I loved the previous boot camp studio I went to, but the big classes didn't allow for the close, almost personal-training like, care these two guys always provide. So I ended up with an injury that I have been able to recover from thanks to this studio.
Rates are affordable and you will definitely see the results.
I would recommend this intimate fitness studio to anyone!

So excited about this place! I'm a beginner when it comes to strength training and I totally appreciate the attention & encouragement you get with the group workouts here. Was able to learn proper form and I appreciated the attention from the instructor to make sure I keep up the proper form & the guidance on the amounts of weight for my level. Everyone in the group was super friendly and really encouraging. Will look forward to going to Locomotion 1-2x/week regularly, having fun, learning form and getting my body in great shape!!

I joined this gym badly out of shape with an injured back in 2018. Two years later and my back is 100% and I'm in better shape than when I was in high school. I've lifted my whole life since middle school and James has taught me tons of lifting and exercise techniques and brought my workouts up to date with modern fitness and sports training knowledge. Super humble despite all his knowledge and the community atmosphere keeps me coming back happily. I thought I could workout better on my own for two decades. Thanks to James and locomotion athletics community I learned how wrong I was.

Such a phenomenal community, coaches, and gym! Since attending this gym, going to the gym isn't a chore it's something I get to look forward to and I really enjoy it! Coach James is an amazing individual that not only cares about his athletes but his gym as a whole. The courses are challenging and what I enjoy the most is being encouraged and pushed to challenge your own personal expectations. Another plus is centering the training around functionality and ensuring the safety of your body without posing danger to injuries! Definitely the best gym iv ever had a membership at!

Ive been looking to switch things up a bit from my normal routine, which consists of just weight training. I recently took a class with Coach Darrick at LocoMotion and was able to workout some form issues I was actually unaware of which was ultimately causing shoulder discomfort. With some tips from Darrick, I was able to make the corrections and relieve pain by a few simple changes in my form. For me, I find this a great place for that change up that not only hits multiple muscle groups, but peppers in lots of cardio as well. Thanks again for the great experience and I'll be back for sure!
