About the Business
About Us Board-certified gastroenterologist Leslie F. Seecoomar, MD, PC, takes a holistic and personalized approach to care at his practice on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. With more than 25 years of gastroenterology experience, Dr. Seecoomar knows how important it is to connect with his patients. He always takes the time needed to get to know them. Once trust is established, patients feel comfortable openly discussing their symptoms and health concerns. Certain digestive symptoms can be embarrassing to talk about; Dr. Seecoomar understands that and finds a way to break the ice and makes patients very comfortable discussing "taboo" subject matters related to normal bodily functions. Dr. Seecoomar specializes in gastroenterology and hepatology and emphasizes noninvasive treatments to help his patients. Some of the conditions he focuses on include colon cancer and polyp screening and prevention. GERD/acid reflux/heartburn; ulcers; H. Pylori gastritis, IBD (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). IBS: constipation, diarrhea; abdominal pain, bloating; liver test abnormalities; fatty liver, gallbladder disorders. Dr. Seecoomar also offers diet, nutrition, and weight management counseling. Dr. Seecoomar takes a comprehensive approach to evaluating his patients with an awareness of the mind-body connection. A thorough history and physical exam always precede treatment or additional testing. When appropriate, blood and stool tests are ordered...

I am so happy to have found Dr. Seecoomar. He is an engaged listener, an informative diagnostician, and a warm friendly guy. He was prompt, efficient, and professional in my two colonoscopies over the past three years.
I could write a long list of all the things I find important in a doctor, but suffice it to say Dr. Seecoomar covers them all.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard S.Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY13523Dec 9, 2018
Pleasant staff. Nice office environment. Dr. Seecoomar had a calming, relaxed personality, while remaining professional during his description of my upcoming procedure. Everyone on his team made what a could have been an uncomfortable situation go very smoothly.
I highly recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matt G.Santa Monica, CA2816Jun 12, 2015

ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE WORST DOCTORS I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!! I have been suffering from stomach problems for many years now and in the last few years they have gotten progressively worse. I had a problem where I was having diarrhea non-stop and was avoiding a lot of foods and nothing was helping. I have been lactose intolerant since 2006 so whenever I consume dairy I take a lactaid or similar to help digest.
I went to see and tell him about my problems. He suggests that I have been lactose intolerant for longer than that which is not true as I have not experienced any LI symptoms prior to 2006. He then tells me that he tells all his patients to eliminate dairy completely. This guy is not a doctor, he's an anti-dairy nutritionist. He then tells me that I should go see another doctor to get their opinion. He tells me to eliminate dairy from my diet for 6 weeks and then come back and see him if I am still having problems. What kind of diagnosis is that???
I did indeed eliminate a lot of dairy and STILL had a lot of problems. I finally went to see another gastroenterologist and he actually did a stool sample and found out I had C-Diff -a colon infection!!!
This doctor (if you can call him that) NEVER did stool sample and did shit to determine the root cause of my issues...he just wanted me to eliminate dairy. I will NEVER be going back to Seecoomar. And any new patients thinking he might be good, think otherwise!!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Maryanne N.Keyport, NJ38177Jun 28, 2012
I feel bad seeing the previous review because I had a very different experience with Dr. Seecoomar. I was sent to him by my GP because I was having severe abdominal pain. Dr. Seecoomar saw me right away that same day and determined that I should be sent to the ER to check for appendicitis. He stayed in touch with my ER attending dr. the entire day and when it turned out to not be appendicitis, called me the very next morning to check on me and decide on next steps. Over the course of a few months Dr. Seecoomar was incredibly patient with me, my seemingly ever changing symptons conducting tests only as they became necessary. He was as frustrated as I was over the consistently 'normal' results (which are great unless you're experiencing severe pain and other symptoms and are trying to find a cause!). Ultimately, it was determined that I suffered from severe damage to my upper GI system cause from an overuse of NSAIDs as a result from previous surgeries and migraines.
His process was thorough, his manner incredibly gentle and his methods quick and painless (with both tests that required general anesthesia i was in and out in under an hour without endless hours of waiting...). He was patient with me when I had lots of questions, helped guide me to make better food choices to help with the reflux and made me feel as though I didn't have to eliminate anything - to just keep balance in mind. Overall it was a really great experience (as far as severe gastrointestinal issues can be anyway...) and I'd reccomend him highly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bob Z.Manhattan, NY840Jun 11, 2013
Dr Seecoomar took the time to break down my history and explain my condition. He is very mainstream and relies a lot on "What the Data Says." Not enormously open to alternative ideas. But if you need a good, old fashioned colonoscopy that is covered by your insurance, he is your guy.

Dr. Seecoomar is one of my favorite doctors--he's smart and thorough and takes the time to answer all your questions without getting impatient. And, as a bonus--he has the best office staff of any doctor I've been to in NYC. Other doctors' staffs range from indifferent to actively hostile, but Dr. Seecoomar's staff is intelligent, reliable, and nice to you! The address above is outdated, unless he has two offices--I see him on W. 58th Street.

I've only had my first appointment with the doctor, but I can already tell he's great. He took the time to listen to my issues, and after seeing another GI, I realized how much better Dr. Seecoomar is. He gave me more test vials and wants to go through a more logical process to figure out what's wrong. He will explain the processes and make sure you understand.

I saw Dr. Seecoomar when I first had issues with my stomach. I didn't get the feeling that he was listening to what I was telling him and he came across as arrogant. He insisted that my symptoms could be lactose intolerance when I told him that I know I am lactose intolerant and don't eat dairy. I ended up getting an endoscopy (which he did well - no pain or anything afterwards) but my symptoms did not go away. He also did not give me a celiac test, which would have given me peace of mind to find out it wasn't that. I ended up going to another gastroenterologist who really listened to my symptoms, gave me a celiac test (proved negative) and recommended that I get an ultrasound for my gallbladder. It turned out that I have gallstones and it seems that this is what was causing me problems. I had laparoscopic surgery and am feeling much better. Hopefully, Dr. Seecoomar has learned to listen to his patients better and be more open to what may be causing their distress (not just lactose intolerance).
