My husband has Medicare/Anthem blue cross PPO. Do you accept those insurances? He has severe knee pain. Went to his PCP for a physical and his major complaint was his knees. He was completely blown off by his doc. He would like to see a specialist.

      A:

Hi, yes, Dr. Roth sees knees and would be happy to help! Please call 925-939-8585 to schedule an appointment with him and they will check insurance. Thanks!

My knee pain escalated and I needed help fast. The office was fantastic, everyone I encounter from Angela in a separate office for scheduling to everyone in Oakland, they were all helpful and got me seen immediately. Sabrina was so kind, knowledgable and made sure I was well taken care of, she even made sure I had loaner crutches and a snack! Sabrina then expedited my MRI and follow up appointment. Shawn the PA was phenomenal as well, patient, listened and made sure I had the information, treatment and next steps I needed. If this is a reflection of how my care with Dr Roth will be than I am in amazing hands... First impression was amazing. Keep it up! Finally a doctors office that actually cares about the patient and wants and does help them. Good stuff!!

Had meniscus surgery with Dr Roth - he was amazing - patient, great bedside manner, answered every question and never made me feel rushed! Did I mention the surgery went amazing, healing well, feeling great and dr Roth and the office - I mean everyone - are still helpful and I can't say enough good stuff! Thank you!!!!

I damaged my shoulder scuba diving and was referred to Dr. Kevin Roth at PAMC earlier this year by my PCP. We learned of 2 separated tendons, torn muscle, and a fully bisected muscle from the radiographs and I elected surgery 2-3 weeks later. The procedure went exactly as Dr. Roth had indicated, pain was low to moderate for 5 days, but 6 weeks in a sling 24/7 was challenging! PT and recovery were as he indicated with full range of motion at 6 months, and nearly full strength within 9 months of daily swimming and exercise and 6 PT sessions. Dr. Roth reviewed my progress during 4-5 visits and wait times never exceeded 10 minutes.

Dr. Roth is in great physical condition, very communicative, optimistic, patient and easily draws out images for questions. His website is unusually informative with video blogs, explanations, even pain moderation information. This online support and his very cheerful office staff is still unusual and very useful and a reason to consider him. He's obviously very talented in surgical procedures and my arthroscopic scars are not noticeable, possibly enhanced by daily topical antibiotic lotion application for 4 months of healing. I am very pleased with his work and highly recommend him.

When I was first referred to Dr. Roth, I was experiencing chronic shoulder pain - severe enough to prevent me from sleeping. I simply could not hold an arm position that was comfortable for more than a few minutes. To diagnose the problem, he ordered an MRI scan -- which I found to be excruciating. It was painful to remain stationary through the duration of the procedure. Even though the resulting images were imperfect, he was able to correctly diagnose a rotator cuff tear. He explained that repairing it would require surgery -- and answered all of my questions about what to expect. Through it all, he was personable, very proficient and maintained a sense of humor.

The surgery itself was exactly as he had explained. Throughout the recovery, he patiently answered my questions, assessed my progress and routed me to an excellent physical therapy staff. Now, six months after the surgery, I am pain free and have recovered my original range of motion and virtually all of my arm strength.

I can't help but think that had this happened to me before the invention of arthroscopy, I would have had to just live with the chronic pain for the rest of my days. It's hard for me to express how much I appreciate what Dr. Roth has done for me. I can't recommend him highly enough.

After some debilitating pain that kept me from walk suddenly one morning, I found myself at the John Muir urgent care. A few imaging services later, I was having a surgery consult with Dr. Roth for a ganglion cyst. He removed it via a general anesthesia surgery. He is polite, thorough, and patient-centered.

Everything with Dr. Roth was 5-stars. Not a fan of the Fremont surgery center anesthesiologist... but that's for another review.

Dr. Roth performed a surgery on my leg after I fractured it skiing. When I saw him after the accident he took time to explain me what the surgery would be, side effects of performing it vs letting the leg heal in its own, and recovery process. Even before the surgery we talked over the phone as I had more questions going into the surgery.
The surgery went very well and I got into PT a little after. After a few months I'm back running and exercising as I used to! Thanks Dr. Roth!

Such a frustrating experience. I saw Dr. Roth for bilateral hip pain which has been increasing over the past 6 months after undergoing a microdiscectomy. He evaluated me and then ordered an MRI. My insurance denied the MRI and the office said he would be appealing the denial and I should hear back by the end of the week. Fast forward 4 weeks and 5 calls later, he still hadn't filed the appeal. Then, he decided to also place a referral for me to start PT, which I had already been actively enrolled in and particating for 5 months. Ugh. I ended up starting fresh and scheduling an an appt with a new orthopedist. What a waste of time and money.

Dr. Roth seems like a knowledgeable doctor, but was very late and rushed through the appointment. I was early to my appointment with the paperwork ready that I had printed from their website. They said there was updated paperwork, which was almost exactly the same as what I had filled out before, but just in a different format.

I waited 20 minutes in the waiting room, then was taken to have X-Rays before the doctor even saw me. Then I waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to come to the small room. Dr. Roth was nice and seemed knowledgeable. He rushed through the appointment in 10 minutes and didn't ask if I had any questions. I did have a few other questions, but he was already out the door. I found him in the hallway and asked a question, which he answered. Then he just passed me off to the scheduler and said to come back in 2 months.

He didn't give me any information that I didn't already know for my knee pain. General physical therapy, stretch, and see a podiatrist for my flat feet. I was hoping for more of a timeline for my healing process, what activities I should be able to do, what to do when I feel pain, etc. But never got this type of attention.

Dr. Roth is a fantastic doctor who I would recommend in a heartbeat to anyone with a knee issue such as the one I had.

I hobbled into Webster Ortho and saw Dr. Roth just 3 days after calling into make an appointment. I was referred to Dr. Roth by my general practitioner. Dr. Roth happened to have an opening and was able to see me.

Upon arrival you wait in a waiting room, and then be ushered into a private room. I was then asked if I wanted an X-Ray.

Pro-tip: You can decline the X-Ray and ask to speak to the doctor first, however, the conversation with the doctor is far more informed with the X-Ray images.

Dr. Roth was wonderful. He was patient, gentle, and thorough. They were able to do both the X-Ray and MRI in-house and get me back into sports asap.

Thank you so much for the great treatment!

This is an older review. I saw Dr. Roth in early 2017. I had a Baker's Cyst and had an MRI for him to review. He explained the various options. When I asked about an arthroscopic surgery, he told me I was too old. Then he realized he wasn't appropriate so he added he was too old for one too. He needs to pay attention to his patients. He brought up family as a way to converse with me. It/he was awkward and I decided he wasn't the right orthopedic doc for me. I think he expected me to say yes to TKR but he was the first ortho I saw. Even if he was the second or third consult, I would not have chosen him. From the reviews I've read, I think it would benefit him to learn how to relate to his patients. Don't tell me I'm older; I already know that. There are more tactful ways of talking to one's patients than telling them they're too old for something.

Have been to Dr Roth a number of times for shoulder and ankle injuries. He listens and is very thoughtful, and also takes the time to explain things. When he didn't think he was the best person for the job, he referred me to another specialist within the practice.

At times, I have waited for a decent amount of time past appointment time (e.g. 45mins), but for me personally, that's pretty consistent everywhere, and it's definitely worth it to see a good doctor. Would you rather be rushed through your appointment and be right on time? I wouldn't.

I am still debating whether I will go in for the shoulder surgery he has recommended, but I feel I have all the information from him to make a decision.
