After Kaiser took over Group Health Cooperative their insurance has been trash. Paying close to $400 and it covers next to nothing. Went to their location to see my doctor that I had with group health before they took over. Prior to their take-over It was fully covered...now its $235 bucks per visit. What the hell is this trash? They don't even cover doctors visits for an actual illness, not even pre-existing condition. They said the insurance and coverage would not change. But they are liars. Kaiser is terrible for insurance and healthcare. Utter Trash. I'm going to fight for single payer health care - We should not have to pay this much and get nothing in return.

I was so skeptical changing from Aetna health insurance to Kaiser Permanente, but this place makes me so glad I did! It was the BEST doctor experience in my life. I set up an account online and easily scheduled my appointment.
Since this location is connected to the Union Station Metro underground, it's very easy to get to (there's a Capital Bikeshare dock two blocks away if that's more your style). The front lobby staff were helpful and directed me to where I needed to go. I waited for literally one minute before being called back. I never had to wait ever. The nurse took great care of me and then the doctor equally so. She was practical, friendly, and intelligent. I then went to get my blood work and also didn't wait. My lab results were ready online within an hour.
I never knew a doctor's office could have stellar customer service, but this one does. I felt so supported and respected by every single staff!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Sarah S.Fairfax, VA01Mar 5, 2021
This was an absolutely amazing experience that would have been otherwise terrifying if it weren't for Brenda Scott. From the second I walked in she made sure I was taken care of. My nurse, Tiffany was also delightful and eased the pain of getting vaccinated. I 10/10 recommend this facility. Thank you for everything you do!

It's a hike to get there - I take a bus, two Metro trains and then hike through Union Station but once there, it's worth it. Everything is State-of-the-art, most of the staff is professional and courteous. And it has a nice snack bar.
And NOW that the area around it has become Gentrified-- PERHAPS there will be a MetroBus stop there in the near future???Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julie H.Los Angeles, CA20830539Sep 19, 2007First to Review
I'll admit I didn't have health care for over a year when I first moved to DC. I was super-excited to have affordable health care with my new job, and a few options to choose from - my as-educated-as-possible guess landed with Kaiser Permanente.
The North Capitol center ends up being the most convenient location for my primary health care needs and I'm thus far happy with the service I've received. The staff has been helpful, the appointment line available, and the waits to see a doctor relatively short. (I actually call the appointment line expecting to plan two or three weeks out, if not more, to see my doctor for something routine and they usually can accomodate me the following day if not within the week!) I'm also intrigued by Kaiser's extensive use of computers - each time a nurse or doctor walked in to see me they logged into a computer terminal and entered all test results, etc. At the end of my appointment I received a computer print-out of all the recommendations my doctor had for me (take calcium supplements, exercise more, etc.). Neat!
I ratcheted down the overall score to reflect the specific North Capitol location itself. Why the building was clean, neat, and not chaotic, the location is almost wildly inconvenient. It is a good 15 minute walk from Union Station and in this past summer's heat it was almost enough to make me FEEL ill. I dread having to return when I AM actually sick and would rather collapse than walk my sick self another block.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Adam B.Washington, DC072Feb 23, 2017
I understand why people like Kaiser, but so far I've been pretty disappointed. I've been with them for about a month and a half now, and I've already had 3 appointments cancelled on me (this includes the Northwest MOB). Yes, things come up, even for medical professionals, but each time it has meant that I needed to wait at least another two weeks before I see my doctor (when I reschedule, they won't have any free appointments for at least that long). Extremely frustrating when you are struggling to get care and constantly having to adjust your schedule, especially since the limited number of KP locations means it's not very convenient for me to get there. I work in Georgetown, it's a pain to get to Capitol Hill for physical therapy, and scheduling something in the middle of the work day isn't exactly ideal.

I live only 3 blocks from the building and have been pretty happy with the service so far.
I especially like how everything is in one house, from the lab, to all the Dr.'s and the pharmacy. It's just very convenient.
It's very easy to make an appointment and they always have advice nurses to call, though it might take a little while until they get to you.
Everyone I've seen there so far, had been reasonable helpful and polite, though they get busy at times, which makes the service a little less personal (usually from the front desk people, the Dr.'s are usually all very attentive and helpful.
I have a more chronic condition and they have been great to get me all the care I need. I also never had problems to refill my meds.
You can call the number on your medicine bottle and order them to be delivered to you house, which has been great for me since their hours are pretty much my hours at work, so I would have to take off just to get my meds. So this had been helpfuil as well.
The whole place will move right around union station in the end of the year, so I'm sure that will make it more convenient to get to, though it will be a little further from my house.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Paul R.Arlington, VA4253316Apr 20, 2012
Very difficult sign in procedure, very rigorous inflexible policies. It's not even really insurance, you have to use their little network of doctors, which are all located within a particular "KP building." It's not really even insurance, as much as it prepayment of services from this small cluster of doctors. Want to use your doctor, try a different insurer. They won't even reimburse me for necessary medication for an eye infection to prevent blindness because their doctor didn't prescribe it. I'm sorry I signed up with these bozos.
