We had to put our dog, Chunk, down and they were so kind and thoughtful. Had him cremated and his ashes came in a beautiful rosewood box, with a paw print clay disk, some fur, and a really sweet note.
The procedure was sad, but it was handled very nicely. Would highly recommend.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

As a certified professional dog trainer I trust my own dog and puppies care to Critter Doctor Animal Hospital. Highly recommend them based off of their knowledge of animals and, very importantly to me, how they actually handle the dogs. The vet can be a stressful experience for dogs and in my professional opinion they do an excellent job understanding that and treating the dogs in their care with compassion and understanding.

Do NOT take your pet here! We took our dog for stomach issues and the Dr. recommended a whole set of exams, X-Rays and blood work without giving us any sort of treatment for symptoms. They always look to 'upsell' you into more services with little care or sympathy for the animals.

Hello,
Thank you for your review! As Veterinary professionals, we feel it is our responsibility to keep our clients fully informed about any possible health issues and to offer the appropriate care. We do our best to help you make informed decisions but ultimately we leave care decisions up to the owner. All of our staff are animal lovers and most of us have pets of our own. We fully understand that these decisions can be difficult, especially if our pets are sick or the treatment is pricey. We strive to offer pressure- and judgment-free advice for clients and we are truly sorry if this is not the experience you had. In this case, we did end up doing treatment (subcutaneous fluids and medication) without performing diagnostics. It sounds like your pup is doing well and the treatment worked, so we are very happy to hear that!
As always, feel free to reach out to the clinic if you still have concerns. - Gentry G.Bellevue, WA05Jul 16, 2022Updated review
I took my dog in because he was limping, they checked him out and said nothing was wrong. Now he is limping really bad.
They miss things, and they won't let you go in with your animal.

And they're not letting owners in with their animals. They're still using Covid as an excuse.

Melinda of, Critter Doctor Animal Hospital in Kirkland, Washington helped me at a very critical moment on a Friday afternoon. I realized that I was completely out of prescription cat food and it was on back order everywhere,
due to Covid! Melinda was kind enough to provide me with enough to hold my pet over until the cat food can be delivered!! When you think about what they did for me, stopping everything in the middle of a busy Friday afternoon to go gather up the items, make sure they had a new diet cat food prescription put on file, and when I arrived at the animal hospital, they brought the Prescription cat food right out to my car! Melinda did all this in a kindly and gracious manner, with a smile on her face, and would take no money for this wonderful service! All this at no charge, whatsoever!!! It doesn't get any better than this! Critter Doctor Animal Hospital of Kirkland is the most caring and loving animal care Hospital And veterinary clinic of all the animal hospitals and veterinary clinics I've ever frequented in over 45 years! They are such an asset, not just to the neighborhood, but to the entire community! If I could give Critter Doctor Animal Hospital of Kirkland more than five stars, I would!!!!! Thank you from all of us in the Community for providing our Pets with such wonderful careHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Jan 27, 2022Previous reviewThey are the best! They give Nordstrom care and customer service to all who call, Whether or not you are a current client! You can tell Critter Doctor Animal Hospital's priority is the health, well-being, and welfare of all animals! They are an advocate for all Pets!
If your pet is not yet a client, One conversation with Greta, Amanda, or any one of the other wonderful staffers who assist at the clinic and your pet definitely will be.
Their caring and concern shine through, even on the phone! Reminds me of the
country vet whose love for animals is the only payment for all the hard work that he would do day after day!
My hats off to these wonderfully dedicated individuals who work as a team at Critter Doctor Animal Hospital!
Instead of just closing the doors during COVID-19, they're still there, day after day, taking care of to make sure your animals are well and safe! Sorry, I'm truly grateful that they are here to help our Four-legged precious family members
Critter Doctor Animal Hospital is such an asset to our community!

New owner/management. Doc Wendy is gone and so is the personable, caring vibe. Not the friendliest people either, so we decided to look for a new vet. Asked for our records to be sent via email and the guy sent it over without a word of "thanks", "please reconsider", or "have a nice day", you know, customer service 101. We've since found Bothell Pet Hospital and a personal relationship has already been created and we feel "at home" there.

My puppy died during neutering surgery at Critter Doctor hospital on Nov 2nd. My puppy is a 7-month old Yorkie boy. He passed away during pre-medicine step, after took induction. He was completely healthy before surgery. No heart disease no any problem. He was already 5lbs and very strong. He is mommy & daddy's sweet heart. I gave myself several weeks to clam down to write this review.
I brought my puppy to critter doctor hospital at 08:00 am. On 09:46 am I received call from them that my puppy's heart stop beating. We went back to hospital and saw his body at:10:20am. Before we took the puppy home, we asked them to send a copy of operator logs to our email and they said they will do. However, we didn't received it until 4:40pm, so we checked with them. They said they will send it by the end of day. At 7:30pm I received the log (pic 1)
Then we found that the time for logging pre-medicine and induction was 10:40am. Next day we went back and asked them many questions. For this wrong time, they said they record the medicine and time on paper and logged into system later. They then showed me the paper (pic 2).
Starting from here is my guess and why I gave 1-star to this hospital. I am heartbroken, I may already mad and wrong:
1. I asked my friends who are doctors or working at shelters. They said it's likely the propofol which caused the incident. Propofol can cause significant decrease on heart rate. According to the paper log, they injected 1.25ml propofol for induction. 1.25ml is a small and safe volume even to a small size puppy. However, this is a paper log not from logging machine. I don't believe its authenticity.
2. I know every surgery has risk. But male dog neutering surgery is really a small surgery based on my knowledge, very unlikely to be an accident like this. The technician who did the induction was holding a license in PENDING status. It should be legal since the main veterinary has active license. However, I think the lack of experience might have increased the risky of the surgery.
3. I talked with them on the next day. The doctor kept saying that many potential diseases can be the reason of the death like heart disease. While my puppy is not a new patient to them, he did the well exam at this hospital and the report showed that he was a very health baby, no issue include heart murmur. Doctor then said he probably has some hidden diseases which cannot be found by physical test. And then the admin told us that they hold meeting discussed about how could avoid this accident, and the conclusion they got is that they have nothing to improve, they have done everything correctly.
Therefore, I didn't received any apologies and reflection from them. They said they also sad about puppy's death and they all cried, I believe it, I believe this is not what they wanted to see. However, I don't believe they have no responsibility on the accident. I was with my puppy all the time, he was an energetic and health boy. He was from an experienced AKC breeder, both his parents are healthy. At the time we adopted him, we signed the contract that we have to do neutering for him at 6-month. This policy wouldn't be there if there are any genetic problems in his family.
Like I said I am not a doctor, that's all my guess. I maybe wrong and I am not intend to wrong them. My puppy received a free nail cut from them before, he must be appreciate that. He is a sweet heart, he wouldn't happy if mommy wronged them. So if I am worry, I say sorry here to the doctors and technician for this negative review. Regardless, I still have to comment this down, this review is not for my puppy and even myself. It's a torture for me to think about that day and write this down. This is for other puppies, this is the request from all my friends who have furry babies.
That's all I have, I completely don't recommend this hospital based on my experience.
PS: I truly believed that neutering is a 100% right thing, it was totally good for him and it's a small/safe surgery. But is that too risky for a small breed like yorkie? Maybe I could wait for him to get older, maybe wait till 1-year-old? And there were more things I could do to avoid this accident, I could check with hospital what medicine to use, who going to perform the surgrey. Or maybe listen to what he really wants? He loves riding his unicorn. he will definitely say no to the the neutering if he can! It's me who made the wrong decision, I gave my puppy to the hospital and he passed away here. I sent him to death. I wish every owner could do fully consideration, preparation and investigation for every decision they made on their puppies. Not like me.
I wishes God could give me the second chance, I wish my puppy could back, as a real boy / girl. MomI wishes God could give me the second chance, I wish my puppy could back, as a real boy / girl. Mom and dad really hope to have more time with you, mom and dad will wait for your back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - shawny P.Mount Vernon, WA1048Jan 4, 2022Updated review

Oct 2, 2012Previous reviewI have been readingthrough the upset of folks rearding their tiny rodents. I have had rats and they are actually more fragile ta\han folks think, BUT I also know they have a life span of 3 years and should fed a correct diet in the correct atmosphere of said Rodent, when you have an animal we as people get stupid and buy funny cute tubes for these small animjals when they should be studying them on habitat. Not a plastic tunnel. You either want a pet or a toy, which is it?
Now the truth and I mean the TRUTH regrading this staff. I have a HUGE issue to rescue HUGE DOGS ,cats [ 6 right now ,will be back to 4 soon] my animals come in varible shapes . from abused ,starved, scared half out of their instincts and some have serious eating disorders and cancer.
Right now I am feeding 2 newborn baby kittens aagain ,taken from a man who had a hundred . he had gone around ally's and trailor parks and took kittens from their moms. I would had taken all 100 , but could not afford it because he was selling them.On just had his eyes barely open. I have been with the Doc since ..??? forever. we have gone through chemo therapy with a cat, sudden carsonoma that took one of our cats in less than three weeks and my favorite friend and joy of my life Gage. My dog who has been dead one year SEptember 12 2011. I have in the meantime weaned another cat and adopted a great Dane weighing in at 78 # when we got her . she is now 140 and I had the help of a wonderful team of doctors going through the post traumatic issues that Gage had [ permenent bullet in his chest ] he got pneumonia all the time. a Dane who is absolutely sweet but thrown a way left to die by humans and cats with leukemia and lymphoma and all were handled with great care. I had to do what was necessary for that particular animal. I just a few days ago rescure a newfi. 60 pounds and fur and bone.
bernstein has never made a mistake surgically on any of my animals neither has Alt or their weekend warrior Doctors who are good and kind.\
I read the love for peoples animals and I also see the marketing of cute tubs runningthrough the house or a hamster in a ball... which can cause internal injuries.
when is the last time someone filed a horses hoof down .. it can cripple them if you do not. the woman knows what she is doing.study on every anumal you want to but including the guppy .. they are alive ,have life and people need to pay more attention than blame the world for the enviornment they created themselves.
Take care of your favorite friend and they will appreciate you and you will respect them. YES, RESPECT!
I am a long time customer of Wendy and I still own her half my house.. [ I mortgage 2x for my pixiebob due to chemo and quality of life ] I do it for my kids and my animals .
this vet does her job as well as the team. I am not the happiest when reading bad things regarding a vet who would rather walk in front a car to save the life of dog.
Just call me the rescue lady .. or whatever u feel the need to.BTW I have to pay for every animal. people have no idea what it costs to take good care of their babes .Mar 24, 2010Previous reviewThere is no other physician my animals will ever go to BUT THE DR.WENDY BERNSTEIN
Enters The Critter Doctor Chief owner and veterinarian Dr. Wendy Bernstein , who I have been with for years .. She was suggested by another close associate of another very highly respected vet in Issaquah the only vet I had gone to when I first arrived in Washington State in 1986 and when I moved to Kirkland Washington my loyal vet told me to go to the very top vet Dr. Bernstein.
I always stick with the vet who does the best , my animals know the person and they tend not to be so scared when treated by the doctor .
I have always called the vets "Animal Pediatricians"
Doctor Wendy Bernstein is my 4 adopted cats via Noah, HSUS and Critter DR. And my Dog Gage via foster care system through Pasado , their physician , animal pediatrician [ MeOw and WOOF! ]
In the time I started with Wendy beginning in 2001 she had to deal with my oldest cat Allawishes. He was ill and he needed chemo. The Lil guy [ huge cat ] lived four very happy years and he got to pass at home and she made sure he was handled with total respect after wards .
ALL my animals have had shots on time, she keeps her staff abreast of all details via her schedule via the program on her system with each pet. I would never remember shots, worming or when it is time for senior blood work. She makes sure I know and I make sure I get my three older ones in. My dog and two oldest cats.
She calls to check in on the sick fuzz balls. Right now I have George who is a very bad diabetic. He is very serious and at first I thought .. Well , he is dying. He had lost weight , drinking so much water I could not keep water in a huge bowl and he slept all the time .. He went from being a very huge cat to being a skinny kitty who absolutely did not look like his time had long.
She put him on insulin after getting many tests done . Her and Dr. Ault work very very well together and fast in getting results too.
By that evening George was staying at their hospital and getting ready to go on the journey of hope , healing and a chance to survival. 2 months later [ current ] George has gained weight , significantly .. Water intake is down.. Kidneys are A-OK and he is playing with the other cats again.
Gage my dog has serious arthritis and she does all his pain control. He is a Lab/border collie mix and his life before me and my family was NOT happy at all. [ details not needed ] but because of the abuse he suffered his body is paying for this now .. He is twelve and Doctor Wendy calls to check in on him all the time and he adores her .. He runs into that office to see her, Dr. Ault and all the staff at Critter doctor.
My animals have NEVER had shaking syndrome when going to the vet , ever. I have never made a habit of fear in myself and I have been handling animals for a very long time sensing their feelings and knowing that a good vet does not bring on a situation of fear and a good handler does not neither.
If I had a choice of Doctor Wendy or a new vet if I moved 100 miles a way on a relocation who would I choose this time and what would we do ?? WELL..
I now live in Mount Vernon WA. I commute to take my fuzzy kids to her and her staff. She is the best , there is no other and they adore her. George purrs during a blood test .POINT..? I feel u never get rid of great doctors either for people or for any animal .
Critter Doctor is the very very best and I adore Dr. Wendy Bernstein my animals would never trade her in ***
I wont neither ** thanks George Sylvester Ophelia Haug and Gage and their people Shawny * :) - Abigail S.Kirkland, WA2212Jul 7, 2021
My parents took their cockapoo to Critter Doctor for 6 years. After weeks of my parents spending thousands of dollars at this clinic treating his declining health with very few answers, their dog passed away at the age of 14 last week. We don't blame Critter Doctor, of course, but my parents left a voicemail after hours informing the clinic of his death. It's been over a week and no one has bothered to call them back. You'd think after years of treating him and them being faithful customers, they'd bother to call. Disappointing and hurtful. The dog food delivery service showed more sympathy than the vet that treated him for a large amount of his adult life.
