Stopped by to get a few breakfast burritos before the Chargers training camp started. I have to commend Hank's on getting me in and out of there in 5 minutes cause I was late haha. You get the option of bacon, sausage and ham, and I always get sausage - turned out to be the right choice cause there were huge breakfast sausage links wrapped inside.
On top of hefty protein portions, there's tomatoes, potatoes, egg and cheese. The ratio of all the ingredients was perfect, the size was great for costing $6. I got both green and red sauces, but after trying both, I recommend the green. The red tastes slightly watered down and doesn't have much of a kick unless you get to the seeds at the bottom. The green sauce tastes like a tomatillo-based salsa and has the perfect spiciness that I look for to complement my burrito.
Overall, Hank's is a great local choice, they have great prices and the staff is so nice. They also take phone orders, so if you want to save 5 minutes, call in.
Would recommend for your morning breakfast routine!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Mar 18, 2024Updated review3 check-ins
A Costa Mesa favorite of kids who grew up off Baker. Stopped in here for some food before a 4pm meeting, carnitas soft taco and a shredded beef crunchy taco. The green salsa was perfect speed for me now that I am a spice wimp.
13bucks for two tacos and a soda, good deal.
Definitely recommend this place for anybody hanging on Baker, including all the breweries on Randolph.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 6, 2011Previous reviewI have had this place like three times, but now my brother can see it from his front yard- so I may become more of a fan. The sweet ladies inside also bring up the quality of the experience here.
Go with the hank's burrito- which is a giant chimichanga, I got it with marinated beef-tasty!!!!
Don't get the mole- everybody who tried it said it was too sweet. The enchiladas would have been good without the sauce- They also have burgers for my gringo son.
This place is worth a retry. - Mercy S. R.Newport Beach, CA02Apr 15, 2024
Great food! Especially, my favorite, mole enchiladas and tortas. The service is Great. Everyone that works there is very cheerful and ready to advise you with any questions concerning your choice in food if you're not quite sure as to what to order.
My family has been going there for at least 30 years or more since they were on 1st street in Santa Ana. Also, it's Family owned. Ambiance is nice, but I always get to go since I live so closeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Zack Z.Rancho Santa Margarita, CA3423312Apr 8, 2024

I got a craving for Mexican food during a visit to Portola Coffee Roasters, and Yelp introduced me to Hanks - it was a good find :-)
Hank's is a small Mom & Pop Mexican place in a location that's decidedly not very impressive. Fortunately, what Hank's lacks in ambiance they more than make up for with their food. Everything they served is house-made, fresh, and very tasty.
Most recently I tried the enchiladas, and became an instant fan. The sauce is over-the-top wonderful, with a touch of mole in it that imparts a truly unique flavor profile.
Hank's is obviously a favorite with locals; I've been here several times now and I've never seen the place without a line. It's a bit off the beaten path to be sure, but the small detour required is totally worth it if you're craving some authentic Mexican in Costa Mesa.Helpful 24Thanks 3Love this 26Oh no 0 - Chris M.Santa Ana, CA155Oct 24, 2023
This place horrible now! Once upon a time back in the year of 1976 when Hank's was located on 1st and Bristol in the city of Santa Ana and there business was thriving and the food was made with love simply awesome! But as of now they've lost that loving feeling for cooking and there customers . Per the previous owner this is a small bricks and mortar restaurant business owned by Christians after witnessing them refusing service to an elderly couple in there senior years that just totally put the nail on the coffin. I refuse to business there ever again there action was not very christianly behavior.
That being said if you want good Mexican food just go to Sariana's they are located on the beautiful city of Santa aHelpful 0Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julian S.Reston, VA210Mar 9, 2024
I hold few things dear in this life including breakfast burritos. Hank's deserves 5 of 5 stars for them (breakfast burritos). 1.) Their tortillas are home made. 2.) adequate bacon 3.) home fries are potato's grated/perpendicular rows and made with love. This is, all around the, most solid breakfast burrito in Costa Mesa (better than Alejandro's).

Stopped for breakfast, found on Yelp ordered breakfast burrito with extra cheese and a breakfast sandwich switched to bacon and added lettuce. Coke products sold here too which we LOVE. Hubby said most tasty breakfast burrito he's had in a while. Very tasty with the green salsa. My breakfast sandwich was delicious bacon crispy, shredded lettuce adds a good crunch too. Overall we'll be back when we down by Costa Mesa.

Nice little Mexican restaurant with friendly workers that makes you feel right at home. I called to place an order and they made it fresh and fast.
I got the breakfast burrito and it was delicious. The eggs, cheese, and potatoes were rich and the bacon was crispy. The salsa verde I ate it with was also delicious.
I will definitely be back to get the breakfast burrito again and to support this awesome restaurant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
