About the Business
Hello Yelpers, I'm Capt. Quang of the Golden Eye 2000. I have been fishing the beautiful San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean for over 30 Years. We love what we do and we love helping others; from the " newbies " all the way to skilled veteran anglers catch as many fish possible. Its great how locals and tourists come on board expecting to just go catch fish but end up realizing its one of the best sight seeing experiences you can get from a vantage point not everyone gets to ever experience. Our small, but super friendly and helpful staff know there are other fishing charters out there so we go that extra mile when it comes to our service to you; which is why we purchased the Golden Eye 2000. A 55 foot boat w/ on deck cabin that glides through the ocean smoothly and quickly to get you from one fishing spot to the other with ease so that were out catching fish and not just searching for them, comfortably. We also do sight seeing tours, celebrations, funeral processions, field trips etc.

What a great time. My family was visiting from out of state and they love to fish, so does my husband. They were in heaven! I'm not a fisherman nor do I like baiting or touching fish. But that's ok, the men on the ship were more than happy to bait my hook and that made it wonderful for me. And when they were busy my family happily baited my hook. I set up a fishing trip on a smaller ship for six people several years ago and I recall it was around $700 to go outside the bay beyond and north of the golden gate. I had no idea we would be staying in the bay this time and it was really nice. For the four of us it was $920, and that included all four of us pitching in on winning the "biggest catch of the day". While $920 sounds like a lot, our luck was shining on us that beautiful Sunday. My husband averaged catching one Halibut an hour, a whopping 12, and he was able to keep three. My sister caught the big fish for the day and between the four of us after processing, we went home with 27.5 pounds of massive filets. Safeway is selling it for $46 a pound so that's approx $1,242 + $250 for the biggest catch... we scored big time. Now, I know that's the exception and sometimes it doesn't work that way. However... it sure was nice to score big time. Note to the novice... bring a cooler with some beverages and snacks. You'll be glad you did.

Every captain in the Berkeley marina wish they could be as good as Quang. He goes out of his way to make it work and let people catch fish.I think he actually likes watching people catch fish.He works all day and will net his own live bait at night when it cant be found elsewhere in the bay for sale.I've fished on this boat several times and will be back

Captain Quang Vo is obsessed with Halibut. If he can't catch'em, they aren't being caught. There's other good boats out there for 'buts (shout our to Lovely Martha and California Dawn (original and 2...both with great galleys).

Best captain and crew on the water. Captain Quan and Bootz are rad! They know where the fish are and were really good to my son. I highly recommend these guys

Joe and Captain Quang were attentive and helpful. They made sure that we had more than enough fresh bait to use, and we stayed out until our boat caught our maximum limit of allowed fish. The catamaran has two toilets and an "inside" seating area that has 4 booth-like eating tables/bench seats. The vessel was comfortable for everyone, and customers ranged from seasoned fishermen to the occasional recreational fisherman. If you want your catch to be filleted, make sure you bring extra cash. Bring snacks and drinks for yourself since there's a chance that you may be out on the water for 12 hours. I highly recommend Golden Eye 2000, and we will fish with them again and again.

I have fished with Quang for years, over 15 years. He always catches fish and cares about what the quality is. Some Captains will let you catch small rock cod and call it limits, not Quang. I take my own boat to his GPS spots and it works out. The catamaran is comfortable, I recommend this boat, captain and crew top anyone wanting to fish out of Berkeley. Quang is a great fisherman wanting to lead the fleet.

Want a Captain and crew that will do what it takes to get your catch? You can't go wrong with the Golden Eye 2000. We've been fishing with them for over 15-years and have never been disappointed. They're a hard working bunch and great guys.

Talk about as good as it gets!!!! Yeehaw!! Captain Quang Vo was a stellar host and his crewmember, Frank, was AWESOME!
My company charters a couple fishing boats each year and takes 40-50 employees out for a day of rock cod fishing. This was the first year we went with Golden Eye and we will definitely be calling them again next year. The Golden Eye 2000 is a beautiful vessel with a lot of room. Being a catamaran, it glides through the waves like a mermaid and you don't get a lot of the rocking motion like with regular boats. Not that I get sea sick or anything, but some of the weenies in my company do.
Quang had a few choice spots he took us to that proved very good fishing. Ling cods and several species of rock cods galore were FLYING out of the water. Frank was running all over the boat helping folks bring in their little lovelies.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Vy T.West Berkeley, Berkeley, CA01Aug 16, 2021

I finally made it out to the Faralons for lingcod/rockcod (10/17/20). I chose Quan's boat - the goldeneye 2000 for his proven effectiveness on all of my previous trips with him in the bay for halibut & stripers. Bodega bay is much much closer for me but I wanted to try the faralons to see if the 3 hr trip out there was worth it. Once again Quan killed it. We had 50 lings in about 20-25 minutes. Swimbaits on my list to buy Westin brand crazy daisy 10 inch robo cod - the 400 plus gram 1 (plan on $30.00 with shipping), a 12-16 oz bullet jighead with a 10 inch rootbeer grubtail also killed them, in fact - took the 250.00 pot yesterday (his 1st saltwater fishing trip, figures). The bright pink, p-line squidheads with frozen squid (the head only) placed on the hook & hooked just above the eyes so it trails well also was my most productive fly rig of all I tried. It brought in 4 very big bocaccio, 2 decent vermillion & 4 big starrys. Rig these with 60 lb mono or fluoro Had some lings snap these. Also on the buy list- 4, one ounce chrome/gold spro bucktail jigs after seeing 1 very experienced jigger pull in numerous LARGE boccacio & vermillion with 2 of these set up on a fly jig rig. Ordered 4 of the 1 oz size (again plan on $30.00 with shipping). A words on Quans suggested fly rig set up. Strong swivel, 18" mono (60 lb for me) down to a 3 way swivel & 12" out for fly, 18" below down to next 3 way swivel. 12" out for 2nd fly & 18" down to swivel snap for weight (12 oz torpedo weight). Gets down 220-240' fast. For swimbaits for lings Im going even heavier next time -Quan suggests a short shock leader of 12-18" for ling teeth. I lost a few BIG ones with 60 lb mono (less drag next time) I still might bump this leader up to 80 lb just for big sharp teeth as a few times my line was either cut by teeth or excessive drag. Rod - go with a rod designed for 25-40 or 50 lb. Hope 1st timers find this useful. In a nutshell - Hell of a trip. Cant wait to return. Cleaned & filleted my catch last night (I like the practice), weighed out 16 lbs of ling, boccacio & vermillion of skinless boneless fillets. (about 40-45 portions) - not bad for a $200.00 day - add 10 crab to that in a few weeks when dungeoness season starts - crazy good deal!
