My son started using Gem Jewelers in Derry so time ago. He asked me to check them out and I purchased some earrings for my wife there for Christmas, at her recommendation. I was impressed with their patience and willingness to help me find what I needed.
Today I went back in to have a watch repaired, which they did while I waited and to have a 40 year old wedding ring repaired that was crushed on my finger just recently.
I decided to look at watches while I was there and purchased a new Luminox watch from them that caught my eye. I'd been looking online but was so pleased with the service and competitive pricing that buying from a local, reputable store was a no brainer. I felt good about supporting a local business that treated me fair and square. I will be using them again and I recommend you give them a try as well.

This review is long overdue but I just started Yelping. :)

I had a ring repaired here and the customer service went above and beyond. Between the owner and the women working at the counter, I couldn't be happier with the service I received.

I hesitated getting my ring repaired as I was nervous leaving an expensive piece of jewelry with anyone. After meeting Greg and him easing my concerns (showing me my unique diamond design in his eye tool), I knew I'd be in good hands.

Ring was repaired as promised and for a very reasonable cost. They also clean my ring for me at no charge anytime I stop by. Love supporting local businesses over chains any day.

I stopped in yesterday morning with a trophy that needed to be engraved. Since they are closed for vacation next week, Greg was kind enough to guarantee that he would get it done yesterday, and he did! You don't get that kind of service everywhere you go. The engraving was perfect as well.

Gem Jewelers has been is business since I first moved to Derry 25 years ago. They have a nice selection of jewelry in the shop, they can special order or design anything you have your heart set on. You can also exchange any jewelry you no longer want towards the purchase of something new. It has helped me afford some beautiful pieces, I wouldn't have been able to buy. You can also consign your jewelry if you prefer too.

Overall you will not be disappointed. Honestly, don't waste your time going to the large chain jewelry stores the quality does not come close and Gem has the best prices. The owner Greg, is very trustworthy.

I am not an easy customer. I am very particular about what I like. So, I'm a custom work kind of person. I also have a limited budget. I went to Greg and Kelly with my old engagement ring to have them use the diamonds from that setting and put them into a new custom ring. We looked at rings in the case, rings in catalogs, Greg made up a mock ring, discussed different ways to set diamonds, exchanged two of my diamonds for more smaller ones to use in the band, talked about angles and edges and this list goes on. They made my new custom ring within my budget and I got more than I could ever have wanted. Their patience and obvious love for what they do is a wonderful thing. Customer service is their priority and it shows. I felt cared for and would recommend them without hesitation.

Absolutely pleased with the service and quality of custom work done for my wedding band. Greg is a pleasure to work with and wanted me to be as happy with the final product as possible. He is certainly underpriced for his work. Highly recommended.

Well....I wish I could agree. Regrettably, when I now think of the name "Gem" Jewelers I can only think of the sarcastic use of the word, "GEM". So here's my (sad) story. To start off with all due credit, a few years back I brought my Jaguar eyeglass frames to GEM to solder a broken frame. The repair worked and I had the frames until the prescription wore out. So.... when my Versace's lost an arm last June I brought them there to be repaired. The arm on this eyeglass had a plastic sleeve over the metal arm. I was told that as long as they could remove the plastic sleeve they could solder the broken arm and the cost would be $40. I thought that was a good price to salvage a $250 frame! So....not even 2 months went by and I began to notice a slight "bend" on the arm that had been "repaired". Then, I simply went to fold the frame and place them in my protective eyeglass case and the arm fell off. Initially, I just said to myself, "Good try, Joe... But no cigar!". Then I realized that the "repair" had lasted less than 2 months. So.... I decided to return to GEM and I told the owner what happened. I didn't have my original receipt (why would I save it??) and they were kind enough to look up and found my original receipt that clearly described the nature of the repair and the cost. At this point the counter clerk turned me over to the owner. I'm afraid I didn't get his name. However, he's the guy that packs the revolver. So don't even think of robbing him or he will blow your brains out!! However, I digress. So....he (the guy with the revolver) examines my eyeglasses.... And then he proceeds to tell me that he cannot find the point of solder from the initial repair. He then told me that he didn't believe that they repaired the frame and that I must have brought another pair of frames in for repair. I told him that they had the receipt from my $40 venture for the frames and that these WERE the frames that I surely brought to him for a repair as I only had one other pair of eyeglasses and they were on my face! I could only think to myself that he must have thought that this 59 year old guy was senile and couldn't remember which frames I brought to him for repairs. Now THAT was the FIRST insult! IT gets better. Rather than argue with MR. GEM, I asked him, "Can you repair these frames?". He said, "Yes..... for another SIXTY DOLLARS ($60) !! I reminded him that he found my receipt that confirmed that I'd already paid $40. That didn't matter because he made it clear that he didn't believe me that he had repaired these frames. I jokingly/realistically stated, "Oh.... Then you're going to give me my $40 back for the original repair?" He looked at me in disbelief and in a manner that made me think he was going to pull his revolver on me. However, he again said that he found no evidence that he repaired the frames. As I saw I was getting nowhere, I thought to myself....., "OK Joe, it will cost you $200 for a new eyeglass frame...Maybe it's worth giving Mr. GEM another $60 to repair the frame and maybe I'm still ahead of the game." So I agreed to leave the frame for "repairs" (again). This time.... MR. GEM realized that it's in his best interest to record the details of the item he takes in to repair as he clearly didn't believe me and that I was trying to beat him for the $40 I'd already paid him for nothing. So..now he records all the details of my eyeglasses ... Versace, left arm, scratches on lense, etc. etc.... On my way home it hit me. Mr. GEM either (A) believes I'm a liar and have presented him with another pair of glasses for him to repair that he really didn't "repair" less than 2 months ago... OR... Mr. GEM is trying to screw ME!! Either way, I thought I was a fool to give this man another $60 over my previous $40 to "repair' my frames. So... I called him on my way home and told him not to repair my frames. The next day I asked my dear wife if she would go by and pick up the broken frames as I thought maybe I could find a new frame on the internet. She went by and when she told Mr. GEM that she was there to pick up my frames he told his clerk.."SHe's here to pick up frames. You know the frames she's talking about, right?" So.....I know this is a long story. However, the lesson that I learned is that Mr. GEM took my original $40 for a repair he never did. There was NEVER a solder done on the metal arm as he simply took the plastic sleeve and "melted" it over the arm. It's clear that it was a "Let's see if this works!" attempt. Well the short statement after this long story is.... Mr. GEM is either (A) an individual who distrusts everyone that walks through his door (credible ...hence the revolver on his belt)..... OR Mr. GEM really tried to take advantage of me and beat me for another $60 after a "let's see if this works for $40" approach. Either way.... I paid $40 in good faith for a repair that was never performed (properly). (More than) enough said!
