The murcott mandarines were excellent! I wish i would have bought more. Everything was fresh and they had a nice variety. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone passing through Chinatown.

The name of the store is Fruit City but they also sell meat and other grocery items. This is one of my favorite grocery store in SF china town.
Their price is good and fruit and vegetables are fresh!

this is a generic review for the dozens of veggie/fruit retailers on stockton street. fruit city isn't too far from the ping yuen apartments where i visited my relatives many times nor too far from my home on grant ave when i was a toddler.

      random sightings:
-veggies/fruits pricing in s.f. chitown are the cheapest in town
-cardboard pricing which can change in an instant.
(remember to check pricing at checkout. maybe the cashier didn't know prices has changed).
-neighborly stores may have similar pricing, walk half a block and the difference widens greatly.
-after 5, drastic discounts happens to clear inventory ahead of next day's arrival.
-beware of elbow flinging grannies who cut in line
-don't leave packages alone, they may not be there when you return.
-parking very bad. park a few blocks away and walk.

I have a kid who lives in a land far, far away where good fresh fruits and veggies are hard to come by. She tells me she keeps dreaming about being on Stockton street with Fruit City and Little Paris within 2 blocks. Fruit City has enough veggies, meats, sauces etc. to make a whole meal with one stop. Their prices are as low as any of the shops on the street too.
You kind of have to claw your way through people with a gazillion pink plastic shopping bags trying to throw you into the street, but fight the good fight. It's what passes for ambiance on Stockton street in the thick of shopping. The 30 and 45 buses go right by here.

the fact that i can get my fruit for the week for about 4.00 is absolutely amazing (usually bananas, apples, berries).

fresh strawberries - they are the sweetest ones i've ever had. thanks for making fruit fresh and affordable!

I'm so shocked that somebody else reviewed this place! I thought that it would be another Chinatown gem people fail to acknowledge. But anyway, I'm pretty sure I've been inside many, many times. However, I'm not reviewing this based on that (because I sure didn't go in last time). I usually just stand outside on the sidewalk, waiting for a family member who's shopping inside. I try to stay away from the caos (not that the street/sidewalk is too much better). I just love the feel of this particular store and how there are heaps of people hovering over the fruits they have placed semi-outside the store. I love how the people shout out the cheap prices for the fruits. It also looks like one of the grocery markets on the cleaner side (for Chinatown at least).
