this is a quaint museum that's located in bear mountain. The size is appropriate for the location and it's free. Staff is very nice and the place sells souvenirs, refreshments, has a movie, and bathrooms. A lot of the stuff on display is also cool (bones from animals, weapons, everyday soldier items)

Quaint, quiet, small loop on the Hudson River where there was once a Fort among the trees and berms to defend the wide mouth of the Hudson near the Bear Mountain Bridge. A few lookouts, parking, scenic views and a glass hut that explains the Revolutionary War.

A lovely site with a small museum with some interesting exhibits about the war. The museum itself is free but accept donations. Nice staff. There are a few souvenirs for purchase. The site has its own parking lot but can also be accessed from Bear Mountain via a hiking path. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and saw some men there with a few older tools and items used during the war time. They were explaining how the items worked. A nice visit while in the area or while at the Bear Mountain Park. Some interesting things to learn there.

Hudson River -- In March 1776, the Americans built Fort Montgomery above the Popolopen Creek to the west of the Hudson River, building a stretch of massive chains to Fort Clinton to the south, in an attempt to prevent British ships from dividing the young colonies.

Five star views that's for sure. The main entrance and museum is closed so you had to park on the other side of a long bridge with a 100 foot drop on one side and fast traffic on the other side of a somewhat narrow sidewalk.
The historical markers are also very informative
And we barley got a parking spot. Big pot hole when you are coming into said parking lot.
During the battle of Fort Montgomery, Governor Clinton barley escaped with his life, a real gentleman's gentlemen, not to be confused with the present governor.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Simon L.Somerville, MA7418801667Sep 19, 2015
Stunning views of the Hudson and the bear mountain bridge.
A well signed and obvious path leads from station to station where plaques describe the various uses of the fort, the battles that occurred and the history of its creation.
A park station has restrooms and vending machines and is conveniently located adjacent to the parking area.
Hiking down the slope towards the river is possible but unmarked and at your own risk.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Christopher J.Manhasset, NY86247587Aug 5, 2017
Historical Park - how can't I give this a great review! Very nice view of the Hudson Valley. Very knowledgeable - the office was closed so couldn't go inside to see the history of it. Worth checking out if in the area

Amazing place.
1) The museum itself is small.
2) The location is great.
3) It is free.
4) They have clean restrooms and ample space for parking.
5) You can park here, and take the trail to hike Popolopen Torne, Anthony's Neck, etc.
6) If you do not want to hike, then Bear Mountain Bridge and Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park are walking distance.
Come, visit, and enjoy the rest of the area.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Kathleen K.Garrison, NY2642106Apr 27, 2019
Very important strategic control of the Hudson River during the revolutionary War. Occasional demonstrations are fun and informative.

Beautiful historic site/hiking trail. So much to learn at the visitors center. The trail is moderate and joins multiple loops such as the Bear mountain trail, Popolpen torne loop and the AT. Bring a good pair of hiking shoes and some water.
