This storefront sells pasta and sauces that are legit! As someone who grew up in Morristown, in an Italian American family, I have had my share of amazing Italian food. Including several trips to Italy. The fresh pasta at ESO is perfection!
While I no longer live in Morristown, a friend sent me the Mafaldine al Pesto kit as a gift. It arrived in a styrofoam cooler with ice packs, inside a box. It looked daunting at first, but I appreciated the care they put into the packing to ensure that everything arrived chilled and not damaged.
The kit consisted of two 1 pound bags of Mafaldine pasta, four containers of pesto and a container of parmigiana reggiano .
Mafaldine is a long, flat, pasta, about one inch wide and 18 inches long! The entire length has a ruffle edge on each side, like lasagna, to capture the delicious sauce. Inside each one pound bag are four "nests", each a 4 oz portion.
The pesto was the absolute best I've ever had! Clearly ESO uses high quality olive oil, pine nuts, basil and parmigiana reggiano as you can taste the difference.
The pasta simple to make and takes just a few minutes to have excellent restaurant quality pasta at home Boil the water, add salt, cook pasta for two minutes, drain and reserve pasta water. Into the same pot, use one container of pesto plus a half cup of pasta water for one pound of pasta. Add pasta into mixture, toss frequently for one minute, done! Top with cheese. Sublime!
I made half a pound and froze the other portion plus the other containers of pesto and pound of pasta for future meals. The pesto tastes great in scrambled eggs, on a pizza, as a spread for a turkey sandwich, added to red sauce, as a dip for bread - it's for more than just for pasta.
I'll definitely be buying more items to sample and plan on stopping by the shop when I'm back in NJ. I'd love to take a pasta making class and attend a pop-up dinner. ESO is next level!Helpful 18Thanks 3Love this 14Oh no 0 - Jun 24, 2021
I stopped by the grand opening of ESO at its current Elm Street location. There was a small crowd and the reputation of the lead chef is highly regarded. The store is order only, there is no room to eat in the store (not that there are any products you can purchase to eat in the store anyway). Everything needs to be cooked at home.
I ordered two of the plastic sealed frozen pizzas: the margherita and the pesto & spinach pies.
The directions are simple (put in the oven for eight minutes at 450°) and when they came out they were well cooked. I had the pesto & spinach. The toppings were very good, but the actual pie was extremely chewy. Slicing the pies was a bit of a challenge. The price of the pies was a little difficult to swallow ($44 total plus tax).
They have a good variety of pasta and sauces. I'd love to try the pasta but the prices are on the expensive side.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2021
ESO does not disappoint with their delicious, delicate homemade pasta selection! The variety of shapes makes it impossible to choose just one - so why not three? That's what I did.
Each shape is best with a different sauce so luckily ESO's has different homemade sauces ready to go for your. We paired our Creste di Gallo with ESO's homemade marinara and it was the best and easiest dinner of the week. We really felt like we were treating ourselves but still cooking basically a 10-minute dinner at home.
One of my favorite things about this pasta is that some of them already come frozen, so there is no pressure to cook the full family sized serving right away. I was able to cook about half and and then packaged up the rest for another night. I also always appreciate eco-friendly businesses and that is exactly what ESO's has to offer with their recyclable and resealable packaging.
ESO's takes the safety of their customers seriously by offering contactless payment, hand sanitizer, social distancing and takeout only at this time. I would recommend ESO's to anyone who appreciates handcrafted pasta.
DEFINITLY give ESO's a try! You're going to love it. It is for everyone.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mar 8, 2022Updated review
As promised I'm back after cooking my first meal with the products I purchased. I made the Gnocchi di Ricotta with the Formaggio sauce and it was delicious. I cooked the gnocchi in the sauce then added it to the Ribeye steak I sautéed in onions, garlic, & peppers. I finished it with fresh mozzarella...SO GOOD. I did not have to add any seasonings because the Formaggio sauce was perfect and the gnocchi was very tasty. Another 5 for ESO.

This amazing little shop gives meaning to "Good things come in small packages" BUT there's nothing small about this place. I walked in to a beautiful greeting by a young man & older woman...who ends up being his mom...so awesome! They were delightful, warm, welcoming. I was told about the business, which knowing the story behind the dream made reality gives extra love to. Then he told me about the pastas, sauces, pizza and desserts they make...oh let's not for the lasagna. This is not the typical dry boxed pasta or jarred sauces...EVERYTHING is made fresh then flash frozen. The average freeze time is 3 months BUT who wants to have delicious food waiting for that long...not me, LOL
OK I ended up buying 2 types of pasta and 3 sauces. I will put up a review about the taste, with pictures of course, once I cook it. The price is moderate, not cheap, but you get what you pay for and it's cheaper than going to an Italian restaurant.
So for now I'm giving my review based on the store, story behind the business, and service.
FYI it's located diagonal across from train station on the small street, which is still Elm, but the way it curves off Morris street hides it. - margaret g.Paoli, PA03Oct 22, 2023
A little difficult to find but the pasta was delicious. I haven't purchased fresh past in a while so I had a bit of a sticker shock! Unfortunately I will be using only for special occasions, as it is more then I like to spend.

Freshly made frozen pasta, $16-27/lb, includes gluten-free options. The chef minds the counter himself, also sells sauces as well as cheeses to grate over your pasta. Most of his pastas are made with only semolina and water. I chose a tagliatelle made with egg, the deep yellow promised a great meal. But at these prices it's tough to be a repeat customer.

Everything was SO good!
We heard about this place on facebook, and couldnt wait to try it! My family had to order 2 days in advance. We ordered gnocchi and pappardelle, and their Pomodoro Classico and Panna Funghi, respectively. It tasted so fresh! The directions were very thorough and easy to follow.
We had so much fun preparing it at home too. Their meals are perfect for beginners in the kitchen. Definitely want to try more of what they have to offer!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Amy G.Morristown, NJ1529379Sep 2, 2020
Honestly you are making a mistake if you are not ordering fresh pasta from here. 1. Why wouldn't you want to support a local business? 2. It's beautifully prepped and packaged 3. Support Black businesses.
Not only those 3 things but: when compared to fresh pasta from Arthur Ave in the Bronx, it wasn't even comparable (seriously I mixed them together and only ate the ESO pasta out of it). ESO pasta has tons of flavor, and is completely handmade which adds to the love and care they give. Although I cannot speak for the sauces, from what I've seen they look incredible, fresh and can't wait to try them. This business literally changes the whole dynamic of Morristown, so stop eating boxed Barilla pasta and go eat something fresh and local.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matt F.Morristown, NJ011Jan 19, 2023
