Dr. Schwartz and Patricia are extremely knowledgeable about bone health. It was with great appreciation that I had a chance to meet with them. They were quite helpful and put me on a path towards healing my badly broken foot. Thank you again

I reviewed Dr. Schwartz on the UCSF Orthopedic page (Here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/ucsf-orthopaedic-institute-at-mission-bay-san-francisco-2?hrid=etbb31jjyjQm6yVbSrx4oQ), but I just discovered he has his own page, so I'm adding it here.

      ---

If you read nothing else -- I love Dr. Schwartz!!

      LOVE.

I had a terrible experience with another doctor earlier this year (they made a massive mistake - I'll leave it at that), however, it's all good because it led me to Dr. Schwartz. (This is exactly why I love life - you get a little bad, and then a lotta good...just be patient and don't forget to look for the good!)

When making my first appointment, the person at the directory wasn't too confidence inspiring. I got a lot of "uh..." and "umm..." before he said, "he's barely ever here....it's gonna be awhile...."

Oh, boy. So I get bad news AND the dude who can help me isn't available? Great. I ended up landing an appointment within a couple weeks from that call, and I've seen Dr. Schwartz several times since then.

I honestly don't even know where to start with him. He blows away every stereotype and bad experience I've ever had with doctors or the medical profession in general.

Dr. Schwartz listens, is caring, is never dismissive, thoughtfully answers EVERY SINGLE QUESTION (including all the ones I start with, "So, I know I shouldn't but...I googled......."), is funny, unbelievably accomplished, methodical and thorough, knowledgeable, kind - should I go on?

While his original assistant has since left, his new one (Mazie) is just as lovely, and all the nurses are great, too.

My one nitpick is the wait times. I book early in the morning and still haven't been seen in under 45 minutes. That's rough when you work 9-5ish.

That said, Dr. Schwartz never rushes the appointment, and for that I'm grateful. Expect to spend a couple hours here, and know that it will be well worth your time.

I couldn't be happier to have found him, even if the road *to* him was less than great.

PS I dare you to find a more accomplished doctor (just google him!). Anyone else his age would be sipping margaritas on an island somewhere, yet he's still going 200MPH and is in the process of writing a textbook for medical students, on top of everything. He's unstoppable.

Dr. Schwartz is EXCELLENT - fantastic MD and more knowledgable than many of his ilk. Truly a terrific and perceptive physician. I agree with the reviewer re the one person staff and nurse. I'm sure she is tremendously overworked but it is not an excuse for an attitude of consistent self-righteousness and shocking behavior over the past 2 years.

I would describe the behavior as Jeckyl and Hyde - first time and occasionally thereafter, just sweet as can be, then out of the blue, heinous and outrageously inconsiderate and rude. I once heard this remark made to a patient over the phone by Mrs. Schwartz "...you mean you expect me to now have to pull your chart and look up what was prescribed originally... " etc. etc. upon the patient's request for a refill that had expired and which patient had a question about.

At times, they have definitely gone out of their way to help at least me and no doubt, these are people who are superb at what they do however dealing with the front office is unfortunately forcing me to look elsewhere now for the medical help I so appreciated and valued from Dr. Schwartz. If you can't even get past the front gate, what's the use of a terrific MD.

Dr Schwartz is a good doctor but Patty, his nurse/receptionist, is horrible. It wouldn't seem hard to ask a patient to wait for the doctor or show them to the waiting room, but she is so rude that it makes the whole visit unpleasant. And don't try to call her - she is worse on the phone. One time she was so impolite to me that I started to wonder if I had offended her - but then I observed her hostility towards another patient and concluded that she is just ill-tempered - or maybe burned out. Even other doctors offices have admitted to me that they can't stand dealing with her! The problem is that she is Dr Schwartz's wife. I'm sure that she would have been fired years ago under any other circumstance. Too bad, because I like Dr Schwartz - but its really not worth dealing with Patti to see him.

Glad to hear this confirmed by another reviewer... she is so awful to deal with!

I had an excellent experience here. Dr. Schwartz and his nurse, Patty were beyond helpful. They clearly went out of their way to help me with healing a fractured bone as quickly as possibly. Dr. Schwartz spent much more time with me than any other doctor has in my life. He is very knowledgeable and uses the latest cutting edge methods. Patty is awesome! She drew my blood and explained that they were sending it to lab to test for special bone turnover markers which I didn't even know existed. I would recommend this doctor to family, friends, and anybody who wants a top notch doctor with over 40 years of experience. Dr. Schwartz has sports memorabilia and pictures of him and athletes that he has treated all over his office. He is one of the Oakland Athletics doctors, and definitely knows his stuff.
