Elephant Trolley Beignets

Mmmm, can't go wrong with fried dough!

I have walked by this place a few times recently and finally dropped in on a Saturday around lunchtime. I loved the beignets at the restaurant that used to be here, and these seem even better. The hours and days are limited, but they are the right hours and days for these great treats. They have a case inside the restaurant at the bar with some of the very recently fried up French pastries waiting for you. Very nice people for sure.

I ordered a pair of beignets to go and received four, as it was nearing closing (extras given to neighbors who were super stoked). For five bucks two are very reasonably priced for how good they are. Fluffy, sweet, crisp and light made these some of the best. Also available are versions with meats, cheeses, and breakfast options for a delectable meal.

We happened to be driving through Sacto again today on our way back to LA and made it a point to find these beignets again.

I was so thrilled to find that they're doing a pop-up at the Iron restaurant! Their menu has expanded beyond the classic beignet, so we ordered the fried chicken and mozzarella and basil beignet sandwiches in addition to some classic, powdered sugar ones with a big ole' cup of coffee.

OMG. Y'all have to FIND THIS PLACE! The chef/owner is so earnest and his food is SO good!

By the way, they're open until 3 pm on Sundays, so don't fret over the 2 pm time stated on Yelp. C'mon down! There's seating and table service inside the Iron.

The beignets were amazing. We got the berry one and the fruit was fresh and the cream was delicious. My kids loved the berry one. I got two original ones and they we're soo fluffy. They also gave us some maple bacon butter for feee to try. The butter was made the original ones even better. The kids hung out in the trolley during the 10 minute wait. If you like beignets-you have to try this place.

Stopped by for takeout beignets. Forgot to take pics but they were so good! We were each given 2 free powdered beignets and each one is big, crispy on the outside and soft inside and delicious. I think they have a Sat special right now 2 free between 9-10am if you order something else. We also got savory ham and cheese and tomato cheese beignets to share with friends who raved about them. Fantastic deal, very filling and the savory ones come with a side of yummy breakfast potatoes. They are still getting things up and running so I don't think indoor service is happening yet, but the service was great and the employees are so nice. Hope the City of Sac starts making small businesses a priority so they can get their cute trolley up and running when the weather warms up. For now just walk into Iron Steak where the trolley is parked outside and order there.

Definitely need to come back and try their fancy ones. We just got plain beignets and some of the spreads. So very good!
