Was told by a British guy that they had the best fish and chips. So I came here and tried the cod. I was impressed it was actually really good, and I am not the biggest fan of fried foods. The chips were ok, not amazing just decent. The guy working here was very personable. Super friendly and funny. He informed us that the fish was cut here and not sent to China. This was news to me as I had no idea fish was sent to China to be cut and then sent back to the US.
The ambiance was nice and casual. If you like fish and chips this is your place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 664242460Feb 10, 2019
The price is right and the portions are good! Well the portion of chips (french fries) is massive anyway. 2 people could have easily shared one order of small fries.
My friend who is a Brit, ordered the battered bangers and was disappointed in the size of the sausage. That sounds like a dirty joke, but in all seriousness, I had bangers and mash in London and the bangers over there are huge compared to these.
The small order of cod which I had was more than enough for me though. It was moist and delicious and I would definitely order it again.
Aside from the small sausage size, I really cant complain! Great food at a great price.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 156107106Feb 17, 2019
For my first visit to Alexandria, I asked some locals where to go for food. They recommended this place since they know my preference is something more low key, but still incredibly satisfying.
My bf and I love seafood, so we checked this place out. The decor is really nice, and was very inviting. This place definitely won't seat a larger group than maybe 6 people. The cashier/host was helpful in making our decisions. He was very talkative with us, and we were the only ones in the restaurant for a bit. It got a little bit annoying as my bf and I were on a date, but he meant well! He helped us out and made sure we were taken care of. one thing though is he tried to talk to us about politics and some sort of conspiracy theory. It just jived me the wrong way to start my day.
My bf ordered the regular fish with double fries, and I ordered the codwich. The codwich was deliciously warm, and plenty to eat. The double fries could probably feed more like three people! The fries were fresh.
We also ordered a fried mars bar. It was also good! Overall solid place in Alexandria.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 61123514Aug 26, 2017
This restaurant has the hands down best fish and chips I've ever had. A small restaurant located off king street, sits in the middle of old town Alexandria. Everything on the menu is well priced, and FISH you get is such great quality, you'll be craving this often.
They have a selection of over 10 different sauces for the fish and chips as well. Along with Irish beer and drinks!
Def check it out if you're in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 134268110Dec 29, 2018
When you are craving something greasy, you are craving something greasy. Ok, you are craving Irish food and some good Guinness. And what better place to go to in Alexandria other than Eamonn's?
Portions are huge. HUGE. You can easily split (if you're feeling generous:) with a friend an order of fish 'n chips. The cod is nice and crisp. Yes, they only have a few sauces but do you really need 20 sauces for your fish?
Yes, you are in fried heaven so if you are looking for healthy and vegan, go to CHOPT.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 314114265Jun 21, 2019
I don't know who the headliner at this restaurant is, I guess it's a duet! Fish-and-chips equal partners and equally delicious. I have been going here for years. I have only been disappointed once when my card was under cooked and there is still batter underneath the fried crispy exterior. Oh. Don't worry I didn't let that concern me I just heated it a little longer myself and continued.
Although the food is delicious I think my favorite part is the Chesapeake dipping Thought. I am pretty sure it's just Mayonnaise and Old Bay but it's special because it's at Eamonn's. This last time we went...last week. . .we also got the chicken sandwich, can you do any wrong? No, is my answer so far.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 476312492Aug 22, 2016
I ate here 9 months ago when a friend brought me and I remember it being good. Light crunchy batter, flaky fish, fries crispy on the outside, steamy inside.
This time the fish and chips were inedible. The fish was so rubbery that I could barely bite though it. The batter was over cooked to dark brown and tasted burned. The chips where soggy and limp. I told the server and he brought me another order that was just as bad. He asked me how it was and I told him that I could not eat it and I left.
Their cook has no clue about how this should be done. No one is doing quality control. Fish and chips are not that hard. A good piece of fish, attention to time and temperature and fresh oil is all that it takes.
You might like your batter extra browned and a little greasy but rubbery fish just doesn't cut it.
My friend who is a trained nutritionist thinks that the fish was freezer burned and old. I did not feel well the next day.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hannahleine P.Alexandria, VA226486Aug 20, 2018
Great value for their huge proportion or chunk of cod/where premium fish in ounces-size!!! Delicately and superbly fried, and I like the honey , rich thickness of their French fries (chips) similar to fuddruckers or chick-fil-A honey colored, battered fries (all fries maintain a certain different texture though).
When my cousins visit from California, i will bring them to EAMONNS if the quality stays consistent and emblematic of the true spirited of U.K./NORTHERN IRELAND's "fish&chips"! CÔLE and I believe leisure dining at old towne's Eamonn's is special and wonderful...we enjoyed and marveled at these seafood wonders three (03) times this summer '18.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 20, 2017
My family and I ate at Eamonn's for a casual dinner. Overall, the food was so greasy that everyone regretted eating it after we left, and it is pricey for what you get.
The location itself is pretty small, and I can see the Irish ba viber they're going for. In that regard, it seems pretty authentic. At the same time, because it is so small, you really have to get lucky to get a table.
They're kind of limited with the food options, so almost all of us got the fried fish. Ordering actually took a rather long time because we had to figure out the differences between all the options. There is no explanation on the menu.
For four people and drinks, it was kind of pricey at $80. Also, they have no condiments besides the sauces that you can order. Even though there is one that is with mayonnaise and another with Tabasco, all their sauces are made off campus, so that they only had ketchup. That seems like an easy oversight to fix, because the one guy working there basically couldn't help us with anything we needed.
The food definitely is fried and made to order. The cod fillet actually was very nice. But with french fries and fried fish, basically my entire group did not feel good and hour after we ate there. That wasn't the best feeling.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Melissa C.Washington, DC2301202393Jul 3, 2019
The fish and chips were over cooked. Fries were mostly hard. Not very good. I mostly ate the interior of the fish and the edible fries I could find. So disappointing.
You'll have better luck at Long John Silver's.
The only saving grace is the friendly service and the cool British & Irish items they have for sale (drinks, candy bars).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tim L.Alexandria, VA305354727Jul 19, 2019
Unfortunately, I can see many reasons why this place is closing. Last day is 7/26 I believe.
The food is very good. Everything is fried, but that is to be expected when you go to an Irish pub. We had fried cod and chips; for about 10-11$ you get a nice portion of tasty seafood goodness and hefty cut fries.
The service was good overall. The staff were attentive and nice. But it was kind of awkward. One gentleman was lounging at the end of the counter eating chipotle... the overall cleanliness of the establishment was poor. It just needed a good deep clean. The ketchup containers needed to be cleaned on the tables. There was no background music, and there really needed to be, especially some sort of theme music (Irish).
It just seemed like a disjointed experience in need of good management. The food was good, although it wasn't a very wide selection... mainly just fish and chips and fried candy bars? Odd.
In any case, I'm happy to have tried it. Sad to see a cheap eats place go away, but like I said at the beginning, it's quite obvious why it's closing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
