Dr.Z & staff are our new favorite vet for our Exotics! We came in with an emergency on our tortoise, he rushed her in immediately. He could have easily, simply, euthanized her but he chose to take a risk, take his time, & really made that effort to save her. They were all very compassionate & helpful. His prices are very reasonable & Dr. Z is very friendly, down to earth, & isn't all about the money like many vets out there!
I would recommend him in a heartbeat, so happy we found him!

Some things are just a heart aching story, but I'll do my best. Simon was an old man, almost sixteen year old. A Shih Tzu bread. Happy and energetic, he was our best child.

Simon had began to show issues in him balance and ability to eat and drink water. He was diagnosed with arthritis in his back on a Wednesday. The recommendation was a cortisone shot and some meds. Honesty was the Dr.'s approach.

Sadly, on the following day Simon just couldn't stand any longer and now had pain that was clearly visible. Sadly, we had to make that ultimate decision.

The office was very compassionate to the event and the circumstances. Very sincerely, they loved Simon as much as us for the last time. The staff gave us time with him and allows us to be reach when we were ready, not just due to the need for a room for another patient.

Most would think that was it. Today, Welshman we got our mail. The office sent a condolence card, hand signed by the office. So sad, but we know it was from the heart. Rest on Simon.

Thank you to the doctors and staff.

      Simon is Happy

Dr. Z & his team have been absolute life savers to my fur babies. I brought Mia in for what we thought was an upset stomach -- long story short she needed exploratory surgery. A few days later, my little Tobi tested positive for parvo. Throughout every step of the way, Dr. Z & his team were very transparent, patient, & so caring to both my babies. The last several weeks were an absolute nightmare, but they always reassured me that both babies were in good hands.

Thank you Dr. Z, Javier, Mia, Jackie, Lindsey, Liz, & both Donnas (I hope I didn't miss anyone) for being patient with me, & allowing me to be the crazy dog mom that I was during this time, especially as you all are NONSTOP busy all the time.

You all truly took care of my fur babies as if they are your own, & I can't express enough how eternally grateful I am.

This is one of the few places where I have brought my dogs & the vet has been nice & caring & respectful. Plus, the prices are fair for general care.

I thought I'd left a review years ago, but didn't see it, so, as it's coming up on a year since our beloved Ginger passed, I decided to write my review now. Forgive me for the lengthy, emotional review.
I believe it's been close to 20 years (?) since I found Dr. Z. I had a pet duck that was attacked by a dog, and no local vets I had used previously did "exotics". I was referred to Dr. Z by another vet, so off I went, with an older duck who had a gaping throat wound. Dr. Z took Daisy (Daisy was a boy, incidentally, but we didn't know for that for the longest time, and he answered to his name, so "Daisy" stuck with him) in to surgery and saved him. Daisy passed away 5 years later from age-related issues. A few years later, our dog Taylor was ill, and my son and I were rushing her to Dr. Z, but she died on the way there. Javier came out and gently removed her from the truck, and Dr. Z said she may have had a tumor that ruptured. We were in shock. Flash forward to several months later, and a friend of my son's had a pup that was in danger of being sent to a shelter; she was kept locked in a garage all day and they no longer wanted her. And so Ginger came to us. Within a few months, however, she began exhibiting signs of Parvo. Off to Dr. Z again. My son & I were distraught; we had grown very attached to Ginger, and weren't sure we could afford the cost (I had just started a new job). Fortunately, my sister stepped up and put it on her CC. Ginger survived, and we went on to have 14 unforgettable years with our beautiful girl. She went everywhere, did everything-chase squirrels & lizards, go to the beach, try to put out fireworks. She loved car rides and walks, ripping the squeakers out of toys, and was a fierce protector of her family. She missed her calling as police K9. She had a nose that was amazing. Her one love, her idol, her everything, was my son. After he got married and had to leave her with me (weight restriction on dogs at his place), she would always run grab a toy if she heard him pull up outside, pin her ears back in the funny way she had, and bring it to him. She was a jewel. Age started slowing her down; no more rides in the truck to my horse barn to chase lizards, and she eventually went deaf, which, in a way, was a blessing, as she hated the loud booms of fireworks. She began having trouble walking, and she was given shots that helped her (she was brought into Dr. Z's on a gurney that day, and left walking on her own), but shortly after, her body began shutting down-not eating, no bowel movements, minimal drinking, occasional whimpering. On a Sunday, it was obvious she was preparing to leaving us, and I asked my son if he wanted to bring her to an emergency vet to help her over the Rainbow Bridge. He replied: "No. I want Dr. Z to do it. He saved her all those years ago, and he will make sure she goes peacefully and easily". Well, Ginger passed away on her bed in my room later that night, and the next morning, we put her in my truck and took her to Dr. Z for her final journey. Losing her gutted us. Even now, I still look for her to greet me when I come home from work. She is home again now with my son, her ashes resting in their china hutch, next to their Dachshund, Maverick, who passed away unexpectedly 2 years before.
Dr. Z also cares for my Moose. Moose isn't a fan of vet's, and even tries to high-tail it out of PetSmart or Petco, thinking those glass doors mean he's at the vet! Moose is a whole other chapter, though.....
Never, ever any complaints about the quality of care my pets have received.
I have referred co-workers, friends, and family to him; they all love him and his staff, as do I and my son. Always upfront & honest about treatment, options, etc. One thing I truly like about Dr. Z is that he will go to any length to help dogs, especially senior dogs, stay happy and healthy.
