I see this place listed as Italian and sushi - but the menu does not list sushi. However, some people are reviewing sushi...what's going on?

The service was good. For a Italian restaurant the wine list was a little sparse. I had a steak with broccoli. Some French onion soup and a Caprice Salad. The salad was very good. The mozzarella seemed fresh and the tomatoes were good for off season
I don't like sushi so I cannot comment on that aspect of the place.
All in all the restaurant was nice and serviceable but a little pricey for what it is.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anne R.Monroe, MI2415May 30, 2018
Every time I've come here, the food has always been delicious and the service has always been good...and these things are still true. My main complaint is that they don't have sushi anymore. For years my husband and I went there primarily for the sushi, and now Sushi Yono is gone?! Why? I know from experience that the sushi was quite popular. Today when my husband and I were there, we even overheard the couple at the next booth asking about the sushi. Their Italian food is great, but their sushi was the best sushi I'd ever had! I'm very disappointed.
Dolce Vita has made quite a few changes over the past year; new chef, new menu, new look, NO sushi bar...and I'm not a big fan of change. It's still a nice establishment with great food but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And bring back the sushi bar!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicole K.Monroe, MI42May 13, 2018
I will not be returning to dine here again. The server was so unfriendly, got our orders wrong, and acted extremely annoyed when asked to double check on allergies.
I ordered a salad and was very disappointed with it. There may have been 5 small bite sized pieces of chicken in a "chicken chopped salad".
My husband ordered one of the specials that said it had prosciutto and instead came out with cheap boiled ham.
While the pasta is homemade, the sauces leave something to be desired and they don't give you much to even cover the pasta.
Overall, not a good experience and we will not be recommending to anyone.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bob F.Charter Township of Berlin, MI22115113Feb 8, 2017
This has got to be the poorest quality of sushi I've ever eaten. Couldn't even finish my meal.
First off the fish had a strong odor. That should've been my first clue.
Second its high priced and as basic as it comes.
The rice was under cooked. The fish should never smell strong and should never be over 1\4" thick.
There were ingredients missing from both rolls I ordered.
They use an abundance of rice.
There was no roe on either roll. Just before she was done making my rolls she quickly sprinkles some seeds on.
Eating sushi is supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable. The presentation was horrible.
I will NEVER make the mistake of eating here again. If there is no care in preparing sushi I can only imagine the care with their cooked meals.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jim I.MI, MI153154236Jul 3, 2014
I am NOT a sushi expert by any means however the sushi here in my opinion is pretty good this is an Italian restaurant with sushi bar I've had the sushi and I've had Italian food and I've been satisfied each time.
Nice atmosphere decent service and fair pricesHelpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Saul M.Detroit, MI017713Oct 22, 2016
First time here since moving to Monroe area. Heard good things and was craving sushi. I thought it was weird to have a sushi bar in an italian restaurant but gave it a go. It was really good!
I got a Sammy Davis good and had some spice. Very original.
Dragon. Weird bc it had lettuce in it. Unique taste. Good.
Michigan roll. My favorite and was really really delicious.
Being the only sushi pace for miles around it was good sushi. Best ever? No. will I go back? Yes.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Scarlett O.Temperance, MI010225Jul 14, 2018Updated review
Not sure what happened, but Dolce just isn't the same. (Chef? owners?) The menu is only half what it used to be and even the dishes that remain have changed. Also, no more sushi (kiddo was pretty disappointed). Its been awhile, so went with kiddo & hubby recently. Our fave appetizer has changed from breaded to grilled eggplant and a completely different sauce. Bread used to be amazing, but now its just basic. And no more key lime martini or tortellini alla nonna? Ugh.
Anyway...We ended up starting with an app from the specials menu. It was crostini with mushrooms & a cream sauce--pretty good, but some of the crostini were burnt. No way that should have come out of the kitchen like that! The soups we got were both bland--lobster bisque & french onion; but kiddos caesar was decent. For entrees, hubby got the chicken marsala & both kiddo and myself got the eggplant parm. Hubby thought the marsala was ok, but not as good as others he's had. The eggplant parm was almost as good as it used to be, but needed more sauce. I had to use my pasta side to even be able to taste any sauce. (I think this is because while it used to be sliced lengthwise before being covered in sauce & cheese, it is now stacked with just a small amount of sauce between layers.) Also, that sauce--semplice--is the best!
Staff was good as always, so at least that hasn't changed. Will be back when I'm craving eggplant parm or when things get back to the way they used to; whichever comes first.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 18, 2016Previous reviewHave been going since they opened 10-ish years ago. Have yet to be disappointed. Faves are the eggplant rollatini, tortellini alla nonna, shrimp scampi & the key lime pie martini. Also the only italian place where I have liked the eggplant parmesan! While I personally am not a fan, my husband loves the balsalmic viniagrette "house" dressing on the salads...

I had not been to Dolce Vita in a long time... since before Yelp, or before I used Yelp. In any case, I found I wasn't missing out on much.
The atmosphere of the place is stuffy... feels like it's trying to be sophisticated when it's really not. I guess maybe at a time it was one of the "nice" places to dine in town, but I was really surprised by how empty it was at a prime dinner hour.
The staff seem nice enough, but again, it was stuffy feeling in there and the staff I met seemed to perpetuate that feeling. Perhaps uninviting is a way to describe it?
My lasagna was alright, but I'm not sure that it was a whole lot better than what you can buy in the freezer section of the grocery store. It was a bit chewy and wasn't very warm. I'm not sure if it was fresh or not, and it's quite possible it could have been reheated.
The soup though... that was the most disgusting chicken tortellini I've ever had, and probably the most disgusting soup I've ever had. It was bland at best, and tasted like dirty water at the worst. The chicken was just little strings of chicken, and there were a couple of little fatty pieces you find on chicken when you're prepping it floating in the soup. There were no veggies in the soup, either, which in my experience is not the norm.
So, I doubt I'll have Dolce Vita on my list to visit again anytime soon, unless I hear word that it's livened up a bit, and that they've decided that the soup should be more than just the leftover chicken floating around with some pasta.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeff T.Toledo, OH35164276Feb 16, 2019
The chicken marsala here is fantastic. The marsala sauce was tasty. My wife had the cajun pasta and she loved it too. I tried a taste of hers and it was really good. There were lots of sausage in her dish and was flavored excellent. This was my first time there and I enjoyed this restaurant. I would come back here again.

Over the years my wife and I have dined frequently at Dolce Vita; indeed it was our favorite restaurant. So our experience on Fri, Aug 31 was a shock to us. We ordered drinks, dinner and a bottle of wine. Halfway through the dinner an insect crawled out from the food (the rapini I think) and died on the plate.
Neither the chef nor the manager came out. And I was appalled to learn from the server that the manager was too "busy" to speak with me. This when only 3 or 4 tables were being served. I was given 20% off of my dinner; which seems wholly inadequate.
I am left with an unpleasant memory, not only from the infested food but especially from the cavalier attitude of the management. I cannot imagine returning and certainly cannot recommend the restaurant to friends.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
