My wife and i went the last of May and elected to take a canoe down the river. The folks at Dan River Company were accommodating and friendly and had us on the river quickly.
This is probably one of the very best entertainment values that one could have for a weekend day get away. The river was beautiful with wildlife everywhere. It was an easy canoe ride with places to stop, eat and swim along the entire route. Even the people we met along the way were friendly and engaging. This was our first trip and we will definitely do it again very soon. We highly recommend this adventure for anyone looking for a way to spend the day outside in beautiful North Carolina.
A couple of recommendations: 1. Water proof container for phones keys etc. 2. Shoes that you can use in the water.3. Dry clothes and towels for when you return. 4. Cooler for food and drinks (No glass containers). Plan on getting wet and enjoy a great day on the Dan river.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Arhetzer H.Greensboro, NC02Apr 13, 2024
People traveled in from out of town. All packed and off to the river, and then Dan River Co cancelled. Said it was too cold. Forecast is 65 and sunny. This was the one trip I would get to do with my kids this year, and they canceled because 65 and sunny is too cold!!! Disappointing doesn't cut it.

Awesome river for tubing! Ultra relaxing and a few small rapids to keep it fun & interesting. Dog-friendly (I tube with my pups) & the parking is easily accessible. There are shuttles & tubes/kayaks for your convenience. I definitely recommend. We will be going back !

We've used the DRC to kayak the Dan four times now and it has been great each time. They have kayaks and canoes. You make an appointment (or not, if you are brave) and they will drop you and a canoe off up river and help you out when you get back. The river is shallow but we've never experienced a required portage. There are a lot of class I rapids. The shorelines are pretty all the way along and there are some beautiful rock formations in several places. It takes about three hours to go down their section of river. The office where you check in sells t-shirts, snacks and drinks. Credit cards are accepted. The Green Heron, an ale house that butts up to the office, is a great place to hang out and have a craft beer after you get off of the river. It doesn't serve food but local restaurants deliver. Take a change of dry clothes, just in case.

Had a blast canoeing down the river with my husband and dog. We showed up late (be careful; you'll lose GPS on cell phone once you get close!) and they were so understanding and accommodating. Easy shuttle ride to the river entrance and away we went. So peaceful and beautiful. Definitely recommend.

This was my first Kayak trip on the Dan river. We had a great time, and the scenery was beautiful. I would highly recommend using the Dan River Company to anyone that wants to give it a try.
