Nice to see a Caribbean alternative in Oakland (few and far between). I've had a taste of a few things like curry goat, Oxtails, Caribbean chicken (a favorite) Chicken Roti and Doubles (another favorite). The beverage selections are healthy and refreshing (light infusions with hibiscus, pineapple, sweetened with honey, sea moss, matcha powders). I love the variety of hot n' pickled sauces served as a condiment to most dishes. This is a spot in central Oakland community along High Street (a busy intersection). For the first location, Coco Breeze is making the most of it. They occasionally have Steele drum performs or DeeJay on sunny weekends. The service may take a while longer than a drive through (averaging 20-30 minutes) so order ahead, sit back and bring a positive attitude. The people are courteous here. Stop two doors down while waiting a pick up some hand-made incense amongst many other things. This is a small and local business community that is happy to serve and needs positive support. Black Businesses Matters.

Phenomenal ! First time trying them (delivery) and this is easily in my TOP 5 food places in the WHOLE BAY AREA! I scooped two prefix 4 course meals (beef patties, oxtail, blueberry blue match lemonade, and dessert of the day - a blue pastry & currant pastry) plantains, Accra salt fish fritters and mango turmeric peach cobbler. I wanted to try a little bit of a lot. The smell was heavenly, the portions were generous and the first bite made my eyes roll back. I can't imagine what this must taste like in person. This was the PERFECT pre Valentine's Day surprise dinner!
Small but amazing touches that put this over the top:
The salad had tomatoes and cucumbers, not just random lettuce. And the dressing was on the side (so we can control how much) plus it was well balanced in flavor.
The oxtail was separate from the rice in its juices so the rice didn't get mushy and the oxtail was flavorful and juicy.
The desserts were the perfect amount of sweet. It didn't taste like just sugar, you could really experience the spices.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jin K.Martinez, CA03334Apr 9, 2024
Ordered jerk chicken with rice n beans. Extra plantains and a chicken Pattie
Jerk was not jerking. Dry. The oil had a kick but why did the chicken not? Def didn't have that grilled taste like most jerk chicken.
Rice n beans were below mid. Hella beans and some were undercooked. No seasoned enough
I like my plantains with a slight crisp when biting into it and sweet. It wasn't all that sweet and it was soggy.
The best thing in the meal was the SALAD the dressing they had omg pineapples and cucumbers so refreshing
Had ordered extra plantains did not get it. (Didn't charge us) Ordered chicken Pattie she forgot it so we had to wait for it. Chicken Pattie was FIREHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - irma d.San Leandro, CA402737Feb 1, 2024
I ordered from the Too Good to Go app. reason why the portions are small.
Curry has great flavor, I actually tasted a well balanced curry seasoning (however she makes it ). Has a mild kick too.
Brown stew was great as well. Tasted like its soy sauce base but not overpowering. Consistency is like a Filipino adobo w/o the sourness of the vinegar, if that makes sense to the reader .
Chicken with both entrees were cooked just right. Chicken was tender but not dry & crumbly when cut through.
Only 4 stars because the rice was soggy for my taste or what I'm accustomed to.
The lady (assuming the owner) was friendly despite of being busy. I heard that she was still filling regular orders. As far as I can see, she was the only one preparing all the orders. Kudos to herHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Angela N.Novato, CA211103May 3, 2024
I wanted to like this place so bad.... the service was difficult without the owner on location as the rest of the staff didn't know what to do. I waited 2+ hours for my food with no updates to when I could expect my food every time I asked.
Then when I go the food it was luke warm as if it was sitting on the shelf for the past hour. The food tasted bland and was not worth the weight. The price was reasonable.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Donuh W.St. Louis, MO072May 3, 2024
Ordered through door dash earlier today and it did not occur to me to take photos. Honestly disappointed with my meal especially since I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time. I won't say anything "mean" about the flavors but maybe it just wasn't for me...
Chicken curry patty-dry, not enough filling, tasted more like goat than chicken.
Oxtail/jerk chicken plate-I personally did not enjoy the flavor of either of these items, didn't taste like typical jerk chicken to me and the way the oxtails were seasoned was...just not to my liking. Beans n rice were dry and bland, plantains were dry and...also bland.
Side salad-was nice and refreshing, especially with the nice twist of spicy pineapple topping.
Macaroni pie-was bland and sorta dry and I personally believe lacking enough cheese.
Fish fritters-had a taste not to my liking. Didn't like the red sauce too much either although my husband thought it was a good addition to the plate as a whole.
Didn't enjoy the jerk bbq sauce either.
I love the large variety of the menu, plenty of options and seemingly healthy ones at that. My food was still pretty hot by the time it got to me, makes sense since it's not too far from my home. I would probably give it another try with different items, especially desert but I honestly did not enjoy my meal and feel like I should have saved my money. :( it's ok though, had to try it out for myself. I should have tried through the TGTG app like I initially planned. This place definitely has potential to be liked by plenty of people, I'm just not one of them at this time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 22, 2023
Coco breeze has been on my bucket list for some time. I was nearby in Berkeley today, and decided to stop by for lunch.
The outside and inside of the restaurant is very colorful! I walked into some reggae jams booming through the speakers. Street par-tay!!! Let's get it!!:)
There's no space to eat in. They do offer some table space outside to eat, if you want to enjoy your food while you're there.
The young man at the window was pleasant and helpful. He honored the Yelp discount to get $5 off ($20 order minimum).
I ordered the braised oxtails, served with red beans and rice, and a side salad; Acra saltfish fritters (entree). The food was all packaged up to go. But, I was able to smell everything through the bag. I had to take my food outside and enjoy it at a table with an umbrella. The food had a hold on me, y'all!! I couldn't wait!
Braided oxtails- AbSOULutely delicious!! The meat was juicy, tender and was falling off those bones. Ooohhhhh wee!! It did not disappoint!
Red beans & rice- Very generous portion that I did not expect, but, definitely appreciated!! It was flavorful. It came with sliced plantains and a pretty flower for some decor. :)
Saltfish fritters- I got in trouble with those. I cannot lie :) They were packed in 2 paper bags. They were round, fried well seasoned balls of fish. None of them were salty, the fish was flavorful and flaky, and those cute balls were fluffy!!! I honestly ate them all up before going back to my car. Everything else, I was saving as leftovers. They are delicious in their own..dipping them in sauce just takes them to a whole other dimension of deliciousness. Whew! Where have these been all my life?!?!?
I more than enjoyed my experience at Coco breeze. The staff was awesome (forgot to mention, that one of the staff let me know that my food will be coming out next while I was waiting), food was divine (they certainly poured a lot of love and soul in making my meal and it showed and tasted like it!). I will certainly be back!! I'm already figuring out my order for my next trip. :)
See ya soon!!Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 10Oh no 0 - Wendi R.Fairfield, CA22847Mar 17, 2024Updated review
The spicy pineapple side dish is amazing. Opened up more the the Accra fritters found some bits of fish but they were dried out(maybe it's me). Again the Roti was the best thing out of all I received.
Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1Mar 16, 2024Previous reviewThe owner and how sweet she is, is why I stayed so long and waited to order food.
I tried to order food via grub hub the night before at around 7pm and my order was closed due to the restaurant being closed so it said. Okay they close at 8. I understand.
When I got there today at noon. I could see they had a catering order as When I pulled up pans were being brought out. ( tip to restaurants, if you have very large catering orders, close down durning that time and give yourself an hour or two before opening back up. Especially if you know ya spot is poppin). I don't live anywhere close and really wanted some good Caribbean food so I waited. She even came and showed me the catering order. I had no problem with waiting. What I don't care for is quality not being the best. My Accra saltfish fritters have no fish and I'm super sad because I am looking for that salted cod taste. ( I love bacalaitos ). The pholourie I do not like at all. No flavor to it. I also ordered spicy creole pineapple chicken. Eh not spicy, chicken over cooked the rice is weirdly soft but not necessarily mushy. Also ordered two doubles which I love love love and I had no chickpeas in either one the spicy or sweet. Just the relish/chutney. This made me so sad because how long I wanted and I just knew the doubles was gone hit. Now the Curry Goat Roti is Fire. Great flavor, the Roti is nice and lite and the goat is tender and not gamey.
Also I wanted a seamoss flight but the only seamoss she was making at the time was the standard with almond milk. Also with the drinks I wanted to order all flavors but she only had Sorrell and one other.
I think my experience was a one off but a big one off for me. Almost $100 and only one edible dish. I think she needed more help today, or should have opened or standard service around 2pm. I arrived at 12 and left at 1:30. - Reese R.Rochester, MN01115Jan 13, 2024
YUUUUUUM! Get the JERK CHICKEN WINGS w RICE + PEAS. The chicken was sooooo juicy and the spice on the jerk is The Jerk Chicken Plate came with a side salad that was standard but good. We also got the curry chicken roti and thought that was tasty but the roti got pretty soggy and gummy after the drive home from the restaurant. 100% recommend the Radiant Sun Juice. The restaurant is small and there is only a few stools for indoor dining, but it is decorated well and has outdoor seating. Service was polite and food was served in a timely manner.
Also want to add that I stopped here for dinner again through TooGoodToGo and got the dinner plate for $6 and I was given a tupperware full of rice and peas and a chickpea potato chicken curry with a side salad. Just delicious and definitely worth the priceHelpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - 1171602619Jul 19, 2023
Food:
Everything was good. The curry chicken was tender. Be careful of the broken bones though. The rice was a pleasant surprise. I've never had rice with jalapeños. It gave the rice a nice kick and flavor. Although I'm not a fan of peas and carrots the veggie Patty was soft, flaky and yummy.
This order was placed through the TooGoodToGo app. I feel I got more than my monies worth even with it being a surprise meal I was content.
Service:
The staff are very friendly. Greeted immediately and kept informed on my order status.
Ambiance:
It's a very cozy spot. Indoor seating is limited for one table of two. There are a couple high tables outside in front. There's also culture appropriate music playing via a large speaker outside.
I'm interested in exploring other items on the menu. Check them out if you are in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1177139Aug 19, 2023
So glad we finally got the chance to try this spot!
When we went, the music was on and the vibes were nice! They had some tables set up outside with decorative flags and a speaker outside with the jams.
The people working the counter were patient and pleasant as we had questions about ingredients due to allergens.
I got an oxtail combo with peas and rice and my husband got oxtail and curry goat with veggie rice. We also got a chicken and a beef patty, a sorrel drink, and a piña colada cupcake.
The beef and chicken patties were the star of the show. The outside was flaky and soft, while the inside was so flavorful! The sorrel drink was also so good! It had a slightly spiced taste with hints of vanilla and sweet fruit. I would definitely get that again.
I accidentally grabbed a vegan cupcake, which I didn't have a problem with except that the icing tasted a bit chemically. I find that happens sometimes with vegan substitutes and it could be that I am just not used to it. The cupcake itself had a good crumbly texture and was moist and definitely tasted like piña colada.
Overall the food was flavorful and I appreciated the portion size for the price. They didn't skimp on the oxtails at all. We had enough food for one of us to have a second meal the next day.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
