I did a six mile personal tour loop in Washington DC with Sara of DC running tours. We did a nice leisurely pace. Sara, a DC native gave me a wonderful tour of DC on a route I never would have run and it really ended up being the highlight of my short trip to DC.
We ran a loop that included Howard and Trinity Universities some history surrounding both and her personal experiences with these areas as they have changed over her lifetime. Memorable will be her nice personal stories about her personal encounters with civil rights activist Stokely Carmichael. We then ran past some cemeteries where they filmed some scenes of the Netflix series House of cards. There were a lot more interesting history/stories but I think dear reader you will get the picture. This tour guide knows here stuff and really was able to gauge my interests.
DC is a delightful place for a run. It's even more enjoyable with a competent guide. The hour just flew by.
I highly recommend hiring Running Tours DC.
Tip: They use active.com to sign up but I did call first to check availability.

Aw, shucks, thanks David! I enjoyed running with you too. Please note that we actually use Racevine for most of our registrations, and Active only for the type of run you did. The best choice for anyone who is interested is to visit our website first at www.cityrunningtours.com and register for your preferred run directly through there. Happy running!

Paul was a great running buddy! He kept a great 11ish minute mile pace for our 5 mile run and took plenty of stops. He kept the cool facts coming throughout our entire run, and kept it fun and relaxed. Thanks for a great run, Paul! I highly recommend this experience.

Bill was a great guide - he was personable, knowledgeable, fun, and adapted easily to some hiccups during our DC 1968 Riots tour! Although not especially scenic, this particular tour included some little known pieces of history that we got to see remnants of up close - things and places you would not normally know to seek out. I'd highly recommend it!

Great tour/run with Chris through the river front. I'm new to DC and wanted a running tour of the neighborhood near to me. Chris did a great job telling me all of the developmental history of the SE and SW quadrants of DC all while keeping a reasonable pace.
Originally, there was a scheduling snafu that left me without a tour guide. Sara, Chris, and the team worked with me and really made it right. I'll definitely use City Running Tours again when I go other places as a tourist.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lisa H.Goodyear, AZ34172Apr 3, 2015

Wow! What an amazing way to see the capital city! We had a fabulous run with our guide, Bill, he was knowledgeable, funny, happy to run at our pace! This is such a great idea because we got to see the city while getting a great workout! This made it super easy to indulge in great DC food and drink later in the day without feeling any guilt :) I can't recommend City Running Tours or our guide Bill more highly!
