We ordered in, but not being from DC, we didn't know who had really good Chinese food available for delivery Christmas Eve. We found City Lights of China on Yelp, read the reviews, and gave them a call.
The restaurant had a limited menu for the holidays, so we're ordered the Crispy Beef, Green Beans, and Egg Drop Soup. It was delivered more quickly than expected and was delicious!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 27, 2023
A solid takeout Chinese restaurant. My friend and I ordered City Lights of China for pickup on Christmas Eve. We split the steamed vegetarian dumplings and I ordered the Peking duck as my main dish. The vegetarian dumplings were extremely disappointing. While they were perfectly steamed, the dumplings were a bit too doughy and the filling was relatively tasteless. However, the Peking duck was fantastic. For $25, I got a great portion size that allowed for leftovers. The duck was very good-perfectly cooked with crispy skin, juicy meat, and a delicious plum dipping sauce.
I would recommend City Lights of China for your next fast meal or if you want Chinese food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 22, 2023
So grateful to have this restaurant in AdMo now! It's easy to order with a person or on the kiosk. I loved the crispy sesame chicken with great rice and a pretty good egg roll too. The siu mai was good as well but better to stick with a dim sum place like Han Palace for that.
I'll definitely order here again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 24, 2023
Wow Such a Change Down!
I visited today. What a change in the dining room/decor.
This Dupont Circle location used to have a simple elegant decor w/fabric tablecloths, china plates, cups e.t.c., & waitstaff service. Today they are functioning as a "Carry-Out"! I chose to eat in. My order "Sweet/Sour Chicken was taken @the counter & paid. My meal was served in "to go containers"-even the "sweet/sour sauce" was served in an individual portion container.
The meal was served hot, chicken tender/crispy, sauce flavorful.
The mediocre score is based upon the food presentation & decor. See Photo.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 26, 2023
City Lights is solid. Reliable. Consistent. Exactly what you want. No fuss Chinese takeout. Classic dishes, some dim sum items too. While I'm sad they no longer have a full restaurant in Dupont Circle, the location in Adams Morgan is far more convenient for me. From Woodley Park, I can take a 20 minute walk to pick up, or order delivery which comes in less than an hour. I'm so glad they're still here.

After a long cold day of seeing the sights around DC we wanted a filling dinner while relaxing in the hotel room. Ordered our food on Uber Eats. Our food arrived very promptly and still very hot. We ordered the chicken dumplings, sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, and Singapore style rice noodles. The dumplings were perfectly pan fried and tasty. The sweet and sour chicken was a nice bite size, crispy and not oily, and the sauce had a nice balance of sweet and sour taste. I ordered the Singapore rice noodles at the normal spice level and was pleasantly surprised at the immediate aroma of curry before I opened the bowl. The first bite provided a great taste and warming spice that I expected along with the lip numbing spice. I would definitely order from this restaurant again to try more of their menu.

I got this delivered, hoping to find a go-to Chinese take out spot in DC. Portions were fine, but unfortunately the food itself was not very good. I got the Sesame chicken and Lo Mein. The Lo mein was alright, no complaints there. But the Sesame chicken was unfortunately not very good at all. The sauce was extremely watery and salty, with zero of the typical sesame chicken flavor. It felt like water and salt mixed with sesame seeds put over breaded chicken. Even with all of the wateriness, the chicken itself on the inside was fairly/surprisingly dry.
I can't speak to any of the other items on the menu, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be ordering from here again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 4, 2023
Some of the best Chinese takeout I've ever had. Full of flavor and high quality, high quantity food. Their hot and sour soup is fantastic, as are their vegetable dumplings and kung pal chicken. Highly recommend this place!

Food was good! Ordered the lunch special of combination Lo Mein with 2 spring egg rolls and water.
The place has changed since the last visit (pre-covid) and it was good to see how they successfully pivoted from a sit-down restaurant to a mostly carry out establishment.
We placed our orders and then sat down at a table. There were a few delivery orders going out and some people were picking up call-in orders to take home.
Overall, the place was clean and orders were prepared quickly and served hot in carry out containers (no plates or silverware).
The five of us had a great lunch!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - N D.Malibu, CA8342Jan 22, 2024
Terrible food and taste. Cheap ingredients. Ordered Mu Shoo Pork for takeout and there was literally no meat and only a bunch of grass.
Ordered from this place a couple years ago and had a terrible experience. Thought I gave another try but immediately regretted it after I saw the food.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
