The owner is blatantly rude. Not a smart move when your prices are high - even for this neighborhood.

Visiting here and my key was messed up and could not get into apartment. My son and I entered into the store and was immediately greeted. Told him that we were locked out of our apartment and he said we could hang out in the store as long as we needed to. He even brought a chair over for my son to sit on. This guys.... This is customer service. Great conversation while we were waiting.
10/10 recommend and the wine selection is really, really great!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ulrika A.New York, NY242153Apr 18, 2023
Best wine shop in the area. Tons of California gems, 4-5 different Sancerres in a range of prices. Not rude at all, always greet me when I walk in, and recognizes me even though I just come like 2 a month. Smiling guy at the front, the knowledgeable man at the counter. Other nearby shops will dote on you for sure, but this one has the goods.

Take your business elsewhere. Totally overpriced and, as has been reported by other would-be-customers, the owner is incredibly rude. He asks you to leave if he decides you're taking too long to make a purchase. It's too bad to see from other reviews that nothing has changed over the years.

This is a small but mighty wine shop. We stepped in as we wanted individual servings of bubbles for a picnic in the park. The shop had exactly what we wanted and the bonus was finding it chilled. Woo hoo!
They appeared to have a nice selection of wines and I would recommend stopping in as I'm sure they would be happy to recommend a nice bottle to go with the delicacies from the market down the hall.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ever V.Woodhaven, Queens, NY1733522May 23, 2018
Horrible customer service. The staff there is just so cranky and was not willing to help deciding which wine was better and was continuously giving attitude and to top it off was hesitating to receive credit card payment! Go to another liquor

I work at a small local coffee shop on the corner where a sommelier comes and gets his coffee everyday. I asked him where to get wine in the neighborhood and he recommended this place. Said that he'd never had a bad bottle of wine that the guy recommended. Well, he was right. I picked out a couple of my favorites and asked the older gentleman working behind the register for a red recommendation. He did not disappoint. Fantastic place, AND one of the last businesses still in the neighborhood that's been around for awhile. Their selection of wines rivals the larger 67 Wine. If you're in the neighborhood and need wine, go here!

This place is small and has mostly higher end European wines... with insane markups. Go to 67 wine or Amsterdam Wine instead.

I don't review often but the owner of this place is so horrible I feel compelled. I went to pick up a bottle of wine at 9:15 on a Tuesday. Apparently everything closes super early in this area (nearby 67 Wine is amazing, but was already closed when I arrived). So, I had no choice but to walk a couple blocks north to Central Wine. I will plan accordingly from now on. $15 credit card minimum and when I told the owner to just run my credit card for $15 since I didn't have cash he very rudely told me that it was "criminal." Not making the mistake of waiting until the last minute to pick up wine again. Priorities!

While Sarah M's review is the antithesis of what mine is going to be, I suppose a store can change over a year.
After I stopped into Wine 67 and thought their prices were high for single malts, while nevertheless a lovely store, I continued to look for a liquor store. I remember walking past Central once before, and figured I would see what they had.
The store is small and while the shelves are well stocked, the store was dimly lit and just seemed really depressing.
The cashier/owner was dressed like a Geisha, I know, it's the UWS, and offered her assistance. I asked about the single malts she had, and she pointed to the wall behind her. I did notice the small cooler Sarah M. mentioned, but nothing really looked too fresh inside.
Prices were decent, but clearly because she put no money into cleaning up the store. Well, you get what you pay for.
Three blocks away from the 72nd Street 1,2,3 station.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Nicole K.New York, NY784Nov 22, 2020
This wine store is the WORST. Just terrible customer service. We picked up a bottle of wine tonight and once we opened it we saw the cork was rotten and there was a ton of sediment at the bottom. We brought it back and the owner said it was unusual and it happened once in 100 bottles - he gave us a bottle of the same wine . We thanked him and brought it home only to see the same rancid wine once we opened it. We brought this bottle back again and the owner refused us and now said the wine was actually meant to be decanted. We asked to just exchange it and said we we're willing to pay for a more expensive bottle but were refused. We gave the rancid wine back to the owner and told him to keep it. This would NEVER happen at 67th Wine and Spirits who has EXCELLENT customer service (they are unfortunately closed on Sundays during COVID). We want to support ALL of our local merchants, especially during these very challenging times but honesty is till paramount to running a successful business.
