      I love coming to Cathay Bank, because the people here are really sweet and helpful with all my banking needs. I came to deposit my check the other day, but I forgot my account number and didn't have my paperwork with me. Lily was so nice and friendly, she went the extra mile to help me, and she was very knowledgeable and professional. Excellent customer service!

      We've been banking with Cathay for as long as I can remember and I am always so appreciative of their help and great customer service that you don't always receive at larger banks.

      Although there might be a few inconveniences associated with a smaller bank like less atms available. Jasmine and Vincent always want to make sure your business succeeds and this bank truly offers a small town feel, where they care about you. There is a value there that can't be replicated.

      The website and online services have also constantly been updated so online banking is getting easier by the day. One other thing to note is that Cathay Bank is more on the conservative side of banking, so you may need to weigh the pro and cons of that but for me, it makes me trust them more.

      I was rejected from applying to this bank. They didn't tell me why. I've never been rejected from opening account as my credit is in excellent standing. I'm assuming it is because I wrote to them about the disfunctional application process on their website and the broken PDF reader that won't open the disclosures an applicant is supposed read through and agree to. They honestly should have been thankful that I took the time to do that so they can at least try to upgrade their technical user interface standards. With how glitchy the application process was, I wouldn't trust this company with being up to date on their banking internet security standards either. So, they rejected me, that's fine. I should go with big banks anyways. At least they would know immediately if their is something technically wrong happening with their application process. And actually APPRECIATE the time and effort to give them good technical feedback.

      I am very pleased with services Cathay Bank in San Diego provided.
      Everyone is very friendly and say Hi to me. The teller named May is super friendly and very professional. Her smiling is very impressive and make me feel very warm. I really love this bank .

      Walked into the bank towards the older lady at the teller window & she greeted me without eye contact. Her head was downward fussing around her drawers & she yelled how can i help u. I thought that was a rude welcome already. I told her what i needed & she said oh not here go over to that table over there. Well had i known that if the bank had signs I wouldn't bother her!
      Lily was nice in opening a new account for me & Vincent was very pleasant walking over with a cup of hot tea to greet me. Thou when i first walked in there was no customers in the bank & Lily had a few things to do on her desk & asked me to wait 10minutes. I left the bank & went outside where she called me back in 10minutes later.
      After my transaction i had to return to the rude teller to make a deposit. Her English was not good and i had repeatedly ask her several questions. She seemed annoyed & also told me a passbook would cost me $5 if i wanted one to keep track of my deposits. Then she answered her own question for me saying nah u dont need to buy it. I was like... Really? Didnt i just deposit over a 5 digit amount into your bank? Cone on... no courtesy what so ever.
      I returned over to Lilys desk & told her what happened & without hesitation Lily walked over to the teller & got me a courtesy passbook for free. Very nice!
      In the future if the same older lady at the teller gives me attitude im going to cancel my account & get the hell outta there. 1st of all Greeting without smiles & a combo of unfriendly voice from a teller is definitely not a welcoming service to me at all. Its unpleasant & makes me not want to deal with bad attitudes tellers when all i am doing is giving you my deposits. I can always cancel my account & simply just go somewhere else for much much better customer service. We shall see...

      I came in on a Saturday to close a dormant account I stopped using about 8 years ago. First, the doors are locked even though they're open. Don't know if this is normal for them but really it's kind of annoying. Then they asked me to wait and they'll be right with me. Again not a big issue since there was one customer they're helping. I waited for more than five minutes and was still waiting in line while they're still helping the same customer. What annoyed me was that there were 2 other people working, and both were doing nothing. I'm assuming one was the manager, who just stood in the front shuffling papers around. By that time I'm starting to get annoyed. 2 other workers and you can't bother to help? After another 3 minutes I walked out. As I was walking out they said to me in English "oh we're sorry. Just wait a little longer". I angrily replied to them (in Chinese) "I've already waited longer than I should have to." I've never waited in line at a bank for more than 8 minutes when there's no line and more than one teller. Very unacceptable customer service. At the very least the manager should of acknowledged and ask what was I in here for instead of making me feel like they don't want to help me because I don't look Chinese enough. Another reason for me to stop using Cathay. Go to a bigger bank, at least they know the basics of customer service.

      The bank has a very friendly and personal environment. I highly recommend the banker Jasmine Wu. She is enthusiastic and pay great attention to detail.she explained CDs to us and even reminded us when they were due. Thank you for the fantastic banking experience!

      My parents had an account here and decided to close it a month ago. They realized that they were never given a statement for the termination of their account so they asked me to contact the bank to get a simple statement about the official closure of their account to keep for their own record. The same lady, Lilly, who assisted them to close the account, answered the phone. She was pleasant with her opening line but as soon as I explained the purpose of my call and "closed account" she became short and rude instantly. During our 9-minute conversation she put me "on hold" FOUR times! Instead of putting me on hold properly like a trained professional, she had me on the phone while chatting with someone right next to her, in Chinese, mocking my request and remarked how impossible and unreasonable my request is! Even if I didn't understand Chinese, this type of behavior should not be tolerated. Amazingly this person next to her (a male voice) agreed with her every time that such request cannot possibly be accommodated. REALLY?? A simple statement in the bank's letterhead to show the effective date of a closed account? Are you serious? She kept trying to talk over me with her broken English, by saying, "We don't have such thing". "Such thing"? What thing? I offered to use the account number but she said there's no way for her to look up a closed account! How does all this make any sense? After almost 10 minutes of getting nowhere and being mocked, I can tell Lilly was growing bored with me and tried to get off the phone. She took my number and said she would go do some "research" - I was beyond speechless at this point. I asked what type of research she was about to conduct and she said she would not discuss that with me and had other "stations" to attend to. I asked her how long her research would take and she said she wouldn't know. I said I would wait by the phone because I'm determined to get this for my parents. She never called back. If you're someone considering doing business with this bank, my only advice is RUN. My dealings with them lead me to firmly believe that these are people who are not properly trained, who have no interest in any quality of customer service, who only care about how much money you will give them. As a Chinese I am deeply ashamed to be grouped with them by race and I could only imagine the impression they leave on non-Chinese and how badly we are being represented.
