First thing I need to say is that my one star rating has nothing to do with the medical care I receive at this facility. I've been quite happy with the care I have received from the medical staff.
My issue is with the support staff here at this facility. While driving to appointments to Dublin and Augusta I was denied travel pay. There standard reply was that (at the time) I was not rated at a minimum of 30% disability and thus not entitled to travel pay. (I have since gotten a higher rating that went back to 2017!) They have grabbed a hold of that 30% threshold and won't deviate even if shown guidance to the contrary.
After being poisoned at Camp Lejeune I developed kidney cancer which is a presumptive disease and per attending physician would require CT Scans, MRI's and PET scans to monitor the kidney issues.
After being denied by the travel pay department I attempted to get assistance from the Facility Veterans Advocacy Office. I now call it the "Pass it on Office" since they only pass on information on to the offending office. After many phone calls (leave a message is standard) with no identification of the phone number called, no returned call and emails that are unanswered I finally got a call from the same office I was having the issue with!! What a joke for supposedly Advocacy Office. Leadership issues? Probably. No accountability per our government culture. Same ole same! I was advised by the National VA Health Benefits Office and their opinion was that the 30% rule was not the only requirement for a veteran to receive travel pay!
I have attached what I gathered from the VA website as it pertains to travel pay.
"The BTSSS system criteria:
"This must be true: You're traveling for care at a VA health facility or for VA-approved care at a non-VA health facility in your community.
And at least one of these must also be true:
1. You have a VA disability rating of 30% or higher, or
2. You're traveling for treatment of a service-connected condition, even if your VA disability rating is less than 30%, or
3. You receive a VA pension, or"
Maybe I'll have better luck in the future. And it may be that the "Pass It On Office" may upgrade leadership and you'll have better luck than I did!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Oct 11, 2019Previous reviewMy appointment to see the doctor at the VA Medical Facilty in Dublin, Ga. was for 0800. The total time I was in the facility was 30 minutes! Very efficient and everyone I interacted with were very professional, courteous and friendly. Kudos to the entire staff.

Racism runs rampant, but is unspoken. The food services are awful, along with most of the care. Nobody cares to be accountable out of fear of loosing their job or positions.
Normally the VA is a good place for all the above. Been to ATL, SEA, PDX and Dublin. Dublin is the worst. Last fall a soldier shot himself in the entrance parking lot, and I pray that his mother sues the VA for the 8.5 million dollars she is asking for.
I'm a type 1 diabetic, which the VA had me posted as Type 2. Huge difference and negligible on their behalf. I went a full day with no insulin coverage and got no help or understanding from nursing staff or any of the other incompetent medical help.
This place is not good. Go to ATL or Charleston if you are in need. Avoid this place like the plague or C-19Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
