Took a ride out to this historical mill today, it was built in 1782-1785 and is still in operation. What a great history lesson, and the view is amazing! The mill has people dressed in period clothes, and they can tell you how it actually works. Really enjoyed this unique day trip into history.

I arrived as they were opening after a rainy night.
The setting was actually pretty beautiful. The water flowing through/under the mill house and the small falls off to the side were very picturesque this day. The bridges and creek way with the willow tree was a great scene. I enjoyed walking around outside. They have about 10 picnic tables available as well.
I did not like going inside the mill. I felt uncomfortable. I did smile and say hello to the gentlemen inside. They had just opened up but they really didn't acknowledge me. I guess they were getting their gear ready for a day of grinding.
So yes, the mill is still somewhat in use today and is producing and selling. The history online is at burwellmorganmill.org . A great read of history there. It looks like they have events here too but I didn't really see much info about anything while I was there except a plaque on the wall. After I left I went online to read about it.
Because of that website, I owe 5 stars here and the scenery was very pleasant, but the building inside was a turnoff and the smell by the restrooms/parking lot turned me off. I also wish there was more reading of the History available on site. It does deserve a visit. Come check this out.

Love the Mill, Disappointed with Art at the Mill...

I love the Mill in Millwood. It is beautiful and during "Art at the Mill" you have the unique opportunity to go into the mill, see water running through the bottom floor of the mill while enjoying art from local artists. So my review is that the Mill is a fantastic place to visit. Lush well-kept landscaping, picturesque, fascinating to see... the Mill is VERY GOOD.

Art at the Mill 2018 would get an average or poor rating from me. I have been to "Art at the Mill" several times, this year my husband and I happened to be down from NJ for opening weekend. I must admit, I was very disappointed with much of the art. I WANTED to spend money and pick up scenic Virginia pieces. There were, MAYBE, a handful of good pieces... It's free so enjoy walking though the Mill.

Very cool, very old mill - right across the street from the Locke Store. You can tour the place, buy Apples, Apple cider, picnic out back, and enjoy the water cascading down through the Mill via the small stream that feeds the place.

Beautiful mill which has a beautiful park attached to it and pretty, babbling brooks running through the property.
Enjoy lunch while sitting at one of their picnic tables next to the water!

Even though this mill was closed for the winter, it was still nice to check the mill out. It was located off of Tannery Lane, and it was pretty cool to learn that this mill is one of the oldest, most original operational grist mills in the country. Built around 1785, it was cool to appreciate the structure, the workings, as well as the quaint-ness of it! There was also a little bridge that you can walk over the little stream. A nice attraction to stop by if you're in the Boyce area!

The Mill is only part of the Millwood experience. Twice a year, in spring and fall, the mill is converted into an art gallery for Art at the Mill. This is a must do event. The folks are nice, proceeds go to good causes, and there are a few gems to be found.

Try packing a lunch and heading out to the country. Better yet, pick something up at Locke Country Store, directly across the street. This is a great way to spend a spring or fall day!
