Honestly this experience was tainted by our poor service, which is unfortunate. We were greeted and seated at our table. Our server came over and took our drink orders. He did not really greet us or introduce himself. When he came back, we ordered our appetizers and he asked if we knew what we wanted for our meals. When we said we hadn't decided yet, he seemed annoyed. Side note, later in the night we heard another server telling his table about specials, we were never informed there were specials, which was a bit annoying.
For appetizers, we got the Caesar salad, which was phenomenal! And I got the French onion soup, which was good but not worth the $19 they charge.
When we were ready to order entrees, I asked about the fried chicken and how it was. His response was something along the lines of it's fine, but this is a steak house.... I should have known by his response not to get the fried chicken, but I did it anyway and regretted my decision. The skin was so bland. It literally had no flavor at all.
My husband got the bone in ribeye and he really enjoyed it. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. For sides, we got the onion ring tower, which was expensive, and once again, nothing too exciting. We also got the truffle fries which were good. Our food came out hot and the presentation was great!
Back to the service, our drinks (my water and my husbands tea) went empty several times throughout our meal which is one of my pet peeves. Our server would come check on us and we would have to ask for refills. I expect at any upscale restaurant, refills should come without having to ask. At one point, towards the end of our entrees, our server literally just took the sweetener container away. My husband's tea glass was sitting there empty, and he had wanted a refill. Instead of asking if he wanted a refill, he just took the sweetener. It was so weird, my husband and I just looked at each other. When he came back the next time, we asked for another tea and then he had to bring the sweetener back.
The ambiance of the restaurant was great! The colors, textures, and dim lighting made for a great romantic vibe. I loved the huge wine cellar and the bar, both great decor.
My last complaint was I had put on our open table reservation that we were celebrating. Not that we were expecting anything for free, but our server didn't even mention it or ask what we were celebrating. I'm not sure if he just didn't care or if this was an oversight at some point, but either way, that was a bit frustrating.
Overall, we spent $270 here before tip. We got a lot of food, like I just said, we were celebrating. The ambiance was lovely, the food was great (although I personally would have gotten a different entree and skipped on the onion ring tower in hindsight)... and with that we would have gladly came back, but with the poor service, I'm not sure we will.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marilyn B.Bethel, CT57141Mar 25, 2024
I wanted to love it. For the price tag, I should have loved it. I was looking forward to loving it.
I didn't love it. I didn't even particularly like it.
It was mediocre at best. My filet was CHEWY. Very chewy. A filet should be like butter, it should never be chewy. My asparagus was cold. I asked for a half strength drink and got a double strength-i couldn't drink it. The creme Brulee we ordered wasn't browned, it was burnt. (The custard was good). The potatoes were way too salty to eat. My husband's fries were cool upon arrival, they should have been piping hot! but he did like his hanger steak. The restaurant was pretty empty, so there's no excuse for mediocre food. The waiter was very nice, he tried very hard- but he was apparently the only waiter working- consequently service suffered, through no fault of his.
It was supposed to be a celebratory meal. It pretty much killed the celebration. Think twice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Samuel K.Northwest Washington, Washington, DC05Nov 19, 2023
I'm disappointed because this is a restaurant I visit a few rimes a year. What I witnessed this evening will prevent me from dining here again. A small group of people who were apparently early for a dining reservation sat near me and my partner at the bar. Shortly after (before they had a chance to order drinks) a guy claiming to be the general manager approached quite hastily demanding to know "why you were so rude and aggressive to MY staff!?"
From what I gathered, the group told the hosts upon arrival that they were early for their reservation and would have a drink at the bar until a table opened up. If a table opened up early, they'd be happy to take it. The group was apparently met with some hostility by the hosts saying that there was absolutely NO WAY they would be seated before their reservation time.
However, the group was able to make a reservation online for 30 minutes earlier than their original time while they were sitting at the bar. One member went up to the hosts to say, "hey we made an earlier reservation online and will be under a different name and we're happy to be seated whenever." This news was met with hostility from the hosts which created a stir between this guest and the host.
After the guest returned to the bar to join the rest of the group was when the general manager approached. He was very aggressive towards the group demanding to know why they were rude and aggressive to his staff. The group was trying to tell him the story but the manager was VERY hostile and not listening. He escalated the situation and was eventually shouting over the guests. The entire bar side of the restaurant got quiet trying to see what was going on. The manager eventually walked off leaving the group and other diners stunned. One member of the group decided she should try and explain the situation and walked over to him as he was skulking in a corner. I asked the rest of the group what had happened and got the rest of the story.
Needless to say, these guests, myself and my partner, as well as others seated nearby were quite appalled by the way the situation was handled. It was a very clear mishandling of a non-serious situation. The manager created a scene and embarrassed himself, the restaurant, and these poor guests. Maybe the restaurant was experiencing other issues which may have caused stressed for the workers but the manager did an abysmal job trying to "solve" a minor issue. This scene left a very foul taste in my mouth and it will be a long while before I visit again.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Aug 14, 2023
The overall experience here was good but there were a few factors that dropped it down. The first thing you notice when you walk in the doors is that it smells extremely musty. It's a really overwhelming smell. I know old Boston building can get that musty smell but I was really surprised with how potent it was in a pricy steakhouse.
We went on a Tuesday and had a party of 12 for a corporate event. We knew to expect a longer wait for drinks and food but it took almost a half hour before we were asked for our appetizer orders and another half hour to order entrees. We got there at 6:30 and it was almost 10:30pm by the time we left. This wasn't because our group was overly chatty- they were actually pretty eager to finish up and have an early night before all of our meetings picked up speed- but because the speed of service was exceptionally slow. There were only a few other small tables that night. In terms of our server, she was amazing. She worked extra hard and was such a doll to chat with when she had time. I think she could have used a second server to assist with her hard efforts.
Now to the food. It was fantastic. Our group ordered a little bit of everything. I had the wagyu bavette with truffle fries. It was cooked perfectly and the fries were fresh, crisp, and seasoned well. The popover appetizer was 100% worth it. A must try! The wine selection was also extensive and had something for everyone.
Overall the experience with our server was great and the food was delicious. The dining room could really use some air purifiers or something to clear out the off-putting musty smell and the backend service could be quicker, especially on a slow night.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 5, 2023
My go to steak spot!!! I've been here a dozen of times and have never had a bad meal ... or bad service!!! This place is so classy and chic inside, and the prices a reasonable for a nice steakhouse.
Anywayyyyy ... gotta give this place a BIG FIVE STARS for how they treated us for my BFs dinner in January!!! Late review (d/t study life) ... but better late than never. We had a decent sized party that got a "little" rowdy with shots upon shots BUT still respectful, and our server was superb!!! She was friendly AND assertive ... and even said that we weren't bad at all. LOL!!! Everyone liked their food and their drinks and had the besttttt time!!!
I wish I had gotten pix of all our food, but I was too busy having fun. Everything was amazing though. PROMISE!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 11, 2023Updated review
Went for restaurant week and loved the service we got! The oysters were so fresh and delicious. The steaks were top notch and served with delicious sauce. The fries were so hot and kept coming ! The desserts left me even fuller but of course I had to try them!!
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 30, 2023Previous reviewMy boyfriend and I came here for restaurant week. We started with a Caesar salad and the oysters. The oysters came with 4 and the Caesar salad was good. The lettuce would have been fresher but still good. For entrees we both got the hanger steak. Mine was a little tendon like but still good. Was this place a 5 star steak place. No. But was this a great bang for our buck to get a three course meal and try this steak house. Absolutely! The desserts were the perfect size as we were stuffed. Big shout out to our waiter as this was a delicious meal. He made every effort to make our dinning experience the best it could be. The espresso martinis were well priced and pretty strong ;) just what we wanted.

The inside is decorated wonderfully and the moody lighting creates the perfect setting for a date. Our server was also super quick and always ready to refill our water/answer any questions. So, definitely a great experience overall.
We came for the restaurant week menu which included an appetizer, entree, and dessert per person. Here is a breakdown of the meal:
Appetizers were ok.
The croquettes were a miss for me. It was a bit dry and came with a tangy sauce that didn't pair well with the meat. Although creative, I don't think oxtail belongs in a fried ball.
The steak tartare was decent. Their bread was toasted wonderfully and the gherkins/shallots added a good texture change as you bite through.
Entrees were delicious.
We both got steak frites with different cuts of meat. The steaks were cooked perfectly, fries were crispy and SO good, and the arugula salad was the perfect balance for the heaviness of the dish.
Dessert was a great finish.
The sticky toffee pudding is a winner. It was warm with a sweet caramel flavor which paired perfectly with the smooth ice cream.
I'd recommend the chocolate cake to those who love a decadent dessert (and someone that likes dark chocolate). It's thick and rich, but the portion is just right so you won't feel clogged up with chocolate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2023
Brunch on Sunday was delicious and cooked perfectly. Ordered the filet with frites, greens and added bacon. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was laid back and friendly. They had plenty of other options but when at a steak house, one orders steak. Didn't disappointed us. My friend had the popovers with scrambled eggs and commented they were both delicious. Happy to visit would come back.

Really nice atmosphere- classic steakhouse vibes, so dark and moody. Our server was helpful and they even put a birthday candle in our dessert. Overall the food was good - we ordered a special, which was a dry aged porterhouse, but we wished we had gotten the ribeye. The porterhouse leaned pretty dry even at medium rare. I agree with others it would've benefited with more salt. I like the sauce flight option a lot but I wouldn't say the sauces are great. The patata bravas had a great seasoning but we were told they were crispy potatoes, and they came out very soft. The sticky toffee pudding was definitely the star of the night. It was well balanced for such a sweet dessert. Cocktails were also great.
Just FYI valet was not available when we went since previous reviews had mentioned a valet.
We also had an unfortunate experience with my reservation - it was cancelled due to another event and the manager left a message to reschedule us and offer complimentary drinks or appetizer. I called back and left a message to reschedule and asked if brunch also offered the dinner menu, and no one ever called me back or reached out to me so I just made a new reservation on my own. That left a bad taste in my mouth since I had reached back out with a question and no one followed up.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 27, 2023
tl:dr - read the menu carefully so you get the right steak
Ok before we get into it, I have to say the food was INCREDIBLE. Really well executed and delicious.
But the purpose of reviews is to rate the whole experience, right?
I really wanted this to be a 5, but there was one very significant issue we experienced and I'd like to share.
Pre- theatre show with friends, we had booked an early 5pm reservation but when we arrived and realized we were the first customers in so we sat at the corner of the bar. Ordered oysters, they were OUTSTANDING. I've never had mignonette that flavorful before. Then we asked the bartender a few questions about the menu and put our dinner orders in.
I ordered the sea bass and the 3 others all ordered the same steak. When our entrees came out, all 3 steaks were the wrong cut! Totally disappointed and called the bartender over. She was apologetic but pointed at the menu and said "well I wouldn't have asked you about these sauces if you had ordered the other cut..." etc etc.
It took awhile to get the new steaks and we never asked to see a manager, but were still surprised at a restaurant of this caliber that no one came out to check on us after we waited 20 minutes for new steaks.
I truly believe this is a poorly designed menu issue. I'm in marketing and sometimes practicality is sacrificed in the name of design, and that was the car with the unclear "steak frites" area of the menu. A quick explanation before we ordered would have solved the issue! I wish I had taken a picture of the menu but here we are.
Anyway I adored the food. And the decor was splendid!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
