Lake Guntersville Bed & Breakfast, also known as the "Hooper House", is a registered Historic Home, built in 1910 by Alexander Hooper. It is located two blocks from the downtown center that's filled with antiques, shops, and restaurants. It sits on a hill that overlooks beautiful Lake Guntersville, a 69,000-acre lake that is surrounded by Appalachian Mountain foothills. All of our guest rooms have plush beds with premium comfort bedding, private baths with complimentary bath amenities, flat screen TV's with cable access and a large selection of free movies, luxury robes for lounging, and most have a private entrance from our spectacular wrap around porches. Our 2nd floor has a common area with a refrigerator, coffee/tea station, and business center. There is also a brand new space on our 3rd floor that includes a media area, game room with pool table, and a gym! We have Happy Hour every day from 4:00-5:00 with complimentary wine, beer, or our "Front Porch Tea". In the morning, we serve a gourmet style breakfast in our dining room or outside on our porch when the weather is nice. It can also be delivered to your room upon request. We've taken care of everything, so come relax and let us treat you to some true Southern Hospitality!

My wife and I, love, love, LOVE this place! Great location! Awesome breakfast! Seriously, the food was so good we wished it was a "Bed and Dinner". Everything about Lake Guntersville turned out to be a pleasant surprise. But this was the best one!

Absolutely amazing! It's a hole in the wall done right. Vintage, classy--this place has amazing staff, food, environment, and feels so homey. Ten out ten, I highly recommend!

My lady really likes staying here, and has brought me a couple of times. This is the historic Hooper House, and was originally built to house the Hooper Family on one floor with the rest being a boarding house.
It is a mix of the historic combined with fixtures from all eras.
First, I will not that it is not wheelchair accessible, as in there is no step free way to any of the rooms. I think the first floor could be made step free, but the house is on a steep hill so it wouldn't be perfect.
The rooms are tastefully appointed. There is no independent environmental control, so if you want it colder or hotter you are out of luck. I wish there was at least a ceiling fan to help when the air is heavy, but no dice.
The happy hour from 5 to 6 with sangria is a nice touch. Breakfasts are excellent, and if you let them know ahead of time, they will work around food allergies. I know they can do gluten and corn free food for my lady.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mike M.Pensacola, FL3121May 2, 2017
First off, I have never stayed at a B&B. I do not like the thought of having common living spaces and prefer to be able to relax. Well, if every B&B is like Lake Guntersville, there will be a lot more in my future.
We had three couples staying at the Hopper House. We had the Lucinda room... and our friends had the Hopper and Fig. Our room had a nice private entrance, seating on the patio and a HUGE bathroom (and shower pressure that will knock you over). The Hooper was even a better room IMO. While maybe a little smaller overall, it was a great room on the first floor. The Fig is not my cup of tea. It is an interior room with no private entrance from the outside.
The Hooper House also has a common kitchen area stocked with coffee, soda, and water. There is also some other amenities in the kitchen. The upstairs game room looked great... but we never used it. We really just enjoyed sitting outside on the deck that went for miles.
Breakfast was great both days... French toast stuffed with mascarpone and fresh berries with cheese grits and andouille sausage the first morning. (Note: I do not like grits. at all. But these were good.). The second day was a savory breakfast pie stuffed with awesomeness. There is also really good coffee... juice... yogurt... muffins... all good.
The real treat though are your hosts, Mike & Michelle. Michelle checked us in... and it was a very smooth process. We then went to happy hour where Michelle served us her homemade Sangria (we called it the Hopper Punch all weekend), beers, and wine. She then surprised us with some awesome guacamole (excellent).
We had a few cocktails and started to figure out how we were going to make it to the concert... and without hesitation Michelle told us she would drive us. We loaded into my truck and Michelle dropped us off at the gate! How awesome is that?
That evening, after the show, we were having drinks on the porch and Mike came by with their puppy Mya. If you get the chance, talk them into brining Mya over... what a cutie!
We really enjoyed the rest of our weekend. Michelle and Mike's recommendations for dining were right on... and there is plenty to do in Guntersville (go check out the views from the State Park).
The B&B is fantastic... and we will definitely be back. Mostly, however, we will look forward to Michelle's hospitality and friendship when we return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Billy K.Macon, GA037Aug 29, 2018
Great location and view of the lake. Very comfortable and peaceful just sitting on the wrap around porches. Mike and Michelle are very welcoming and make you immediately feel at home. The happy hour is a great touch and the sangria is awesome.
The room was nice and clean, but a little tight. The bed was very comfortable.
Great stay and we will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Colleen F.Montgomery, AL1473Feb 15, 2016First to Review
As soon as we arrived Saturday afternoon, I had a warm feeling about the newly renovated, early 1900's bed and breakfast. The new owners, Michelle and Mike, were gracious hosts, and it was great to get to know them.
The bed and breakfast is in a lovely location on the top of a point overlooking the lake and just a short walk from downtown restaurants and shopping. We had one of the smaller rooms, it was charming and extremely comfortable. Guests also have access to the 3rd floor which boasts a pool table and amazing views of the lake.
The highlight of the stay was without a doubt the breakfast on Sunday morning. We were offered coffee and/or mimosas as soon as we arrived to the main dining room. After chatting with the other happy guests, breakfast was served: Creme Brûlée French Toast with fresh berries, breakfast potatoes, and sausage. It was wonderful.
I am so happy we found this gem. Will be back for sure!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Josh K.Owens Cross Roads, AL25May 22, 2016
Under new ownership since Fall 2015, Michelle and Mike have done a superb job with the renovations. My wife and I had a wonderful overnight stay, fantastic room, lovely porch to sit on, super-easy access to recreation around Guntersville, and of course, a great breakfast in the morning. You will not be disappointed!
