Q:
Do you need to make a reservation to dine in?
A:
Hi. We don’t take reservations. It’s first come first served. Typically the only day with an extended wait is Sunday.
David M., Business Manager10 months agoQ:
Is the fried okra fresh or frozen?
A:
It appeared to be fresh and the batter they were fried in was not flavourful, at least not the day I ordered it.

Tasha is amazing!!! I would've taken a photo of my food but it looked so good I just started eating. Coming from a person who don't even like mac and cheese like that, theirs was INCREDIBLE. Took me back to Thanksgiving at my Grandma's. Ordered the Honorable Bill Perkins and it was incredible! The salmon was perfectly cooked (per Tasha's recommendation) and ordered it with the mac and cheese (aforementioned) and the yams (also perfect). If you're drinking, the peach mimosa is very good and you'll only need one! The glass is pretty big lol. The restaurant has a very open space with high ceilings and a bomb playlist (throwback R&B jams for days).
Will certainly be back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Phonz R.New York, NY368018Mar 31, 2024
This review comes as my second time with a horrible experience from this restaurant. I placed an order online totaling $84 and when I came to pick it up, I called the the Caucasian manager (or owner) on the phone from across the room and he claimed that they were not taking orders online. Instead of just being honest and saying that they are busy and the order was not ready, why tell a lie? When I stepped to him, he was like "oh did we confirm it? Oh it's not ready yet." Again this is not the first time they messed up with me.
The first time they messed up was when I ordered a Thanksgiving turkey from them with stuffing, which costed over $100. The turkey was cut up and had greens in it, and the stuffing was stove top with cranberries in it and about as dry as the Sahara. The turkey was also swimming in butter. They are under new ownership and clearly have forgotten who their core demographic of customers are. I will never patronize this restaurant again. Complete trash. The food is not giving what it once gave.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kree J.Tenafly, NJ2596211515Mar 6, 2024Updated review2 check-ins
Amy Ruth's unquestionably takes the crown for serving the best banana pudding in the tri-state area, and I'm willing to travel to Harlem time and again to indulge in this heavenly dessert. From the moment you take your first bite, you'll understand why it's worth the journey. Ordering over the phone is a breeze, thanks to their swift and efficient service. The staff is friendly and accommodating, making the process easy and stress-free. And when it's time to pick up your order, you'll be in and out in no time flat, thanks to their fast and seamless process.
But let's talk about the star of the night - the banana pudding. Creamy, dreamy, and utterly irresistible, it's a dessert that will transport you to dessert paradise with every spoonful. The perfect balance of flavors and textures leaves you craving more, long after the last bite is gone.
Look no further than Amy Ruth's. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's a dessert destination that's well worth the trip.Helpful 10Thanks 1Love this 7Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks for the review! We are currently working on adding more staff so if you know anyone...send them our way.
Sep 19, 2023Previous reviewAmy Ruth's Soul Food restaurant is a true gem in the heart of Harlem. The soulful aroma of comfort food filled the air, as a must have our I completed my race challenge.
What truly sets Amy Ruth's apart, though, is their commitment to honoring African-American culture and history. Each dish is named after a notable figure, and you can learn about their contributions while you dine. It adds a layer of depth and education to the dining experience.
Although the service could improve from ordering to dining, I must admit, the portion sizes are generous, so be prepared for leftovers. - Mar 10, 2024
The service was amazing, it was 30 of us and our waitress handled us like a pro!! She was very organized and after ordering, our food came out quickly. The catfish was average, needing more seasoning. The greens had a hint of sugar, I'm not really into sweet greens, so again average to below average. Delicious red beans and rice! The peach cobbler was too doughy and they used the smallest slices of peaches I've seen in a pie. They were fruit cup size. . The food was overall underwhelming. This location has grown over the years and they need to reinvest in the overall look and feel inside the restaurant. They are in need of a makeover.

This is an iconic restaurant in Harlem, serving home style Southern cuisine. The interior was colorful and spacious, with star lights hanging from the ceiling, paintings of famous folks on the wall, including Obama, Oprah, Michael Jackson, and more.
My friend and I came for brunch. We were served warm cornbread, which was buttery and moist. I ordered the Waffle and Fried Pork Chop. The waffle and nicely crunchy and fluffy. The pork chop was perfectly crispy, tender, as well as wonderfully juicy.
Service was pretty good. Prices were decent. I would be open to returning to try the Fisherman's Platter (fried shrimp, catfish, crab cake) or BBQ Pork spare ribs with Candied Yams and Mac & Cheese.Helpful 4Thanks 3Love this 7Oh no 0Business owner information

My order: the rev al sharpton (smothered) chicken and waffles, peach mimosa
Pros
+ Food: Big portions. I loved my meal, I got two waffles, plenty of chicken thigh and gravy. The mimosa could have been sweeter but was otherwise enjoyable.
+ Ambiance: I loved the decorations and the artwork on the wall. The place was spacious.
FYI, They don't seat you until everyone in your party is there.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 9, 2023
I love fried chicken and waffles and it's like the best combo. I've been to many but in NYC (Harlem) this place is theeeee best. Now to get here is no cake walk... you can take the subway, if you dare, or UBER.
It's a little hard to find cuz their signage is hard to find.
This would have been a 5 star review. As I entered, no one greeted or welcome us.
This one grumpy older man was sitting down. Heavy set, kinda tall, sitting down on a stool.
, I thought he was waiting for his food, or for someone. While we are figuring out where to go to sit down. This fool looked at us and gesture with his hands and eyes like what?!
I was like oh we are here to sit down. I don't know what his deal was. I hope that wasn't the owner. Cuz he needs to get rid of the attitude.
They give you complimentary corn bread.
Very disappointed. It lacks so much. A cornbread from a Jiffy box, tastes better.
The menu has entrees named after famous people. I ordered, the AL Sharpton. Chicken and Waffles.
Get their 50/50. Iced Tea n Lemonade. Expensive but it's worth it.
My waffle was amazing ... chicken was good... I didn't ordered much , cuz I ate a lot at Juniors.
Ok so I've been to Melbas which is also in Harlem, and this place is better. A bit expensive but service was good. Leaving the restaurant, I thought Mr. Gramps
would of changed his bad attitude, or thanked his patrons, you know they ones who keeps the place going. But no. No thank you, or have a nice afternoon. None of that. The wait staff is friendly thoughHelpful 5Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Sep 26, 2023
I lost count how many times I visited Amy Ruth's. My family came to visit so we ordered a lot to share:
-Cornbread: complimentary basket as a starter, it's kinda sweet
-Fried catfish: seasoned very well (3-4 pieces)
-Smothered pork chop: fam said tasted pretty good
-Cabbage: needed seasoning this time, usually pretty good
-Sweet potatoes: family said they were ok, needed seasoning
-Collard greens: too sweet for me but seasoned well, usually pretty good
-Mac and cheese: needed pepper/salt, usually pretty good
-Seafood platter: Fried catfish and shrimp seasoned well, crab cake seasoned well but overcooked
I'm still giving 4 stars because this is the first time that the food wasn't consistent from previous visits.Helpful 4Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 1 - Mar 24, 2024Updated review1 check-in
Walked in and I almost dropped down like wait are they take out only but thankfully no they have seating on the other rooms. They don't seem to use main entrance room any longer for dinning in. I ordered the smothered turkey Mac and cheese greens and side order of okra and bae ordered sticky wings Mac and cheese and potatoes salad. The gravy for the turkey wings was not overly salty and had a good flavor. The turkey wing was tender and seasoned. The Mac and cheese for me was good above average but I wasn't blown away like I would have wanted to be. The greens I enjoyed they didn't have the bits of turkey meat as I expected but the. Taste and tenderness was on point. I love okra. So my okra was fresh seasoned Slimy yummy. The sticky wings had a decent size. Seasoned and fried excellently the sticky sauce wasn't overwhelming like other places that do to much. The potato salad Was also good. I have been coming here for years and I do enjoy there might be other soul foods spots better but that list Isn't long at all. Say yes to the cornbread and I might just pop up and say " you going eat your cornbread " lol
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 12, 2015Previous reviewIt's a nice spot i do feel sometimes it can be hit or miss at this place. In a city where good soul food is not always easy to come by I would still recommend this place before the staple soul food restaurant in Harlem . Yes that place.
