AJ's Wings

Back when AJ'S was just a food truck, I remember the family expressing desire to one day have their very own restaurant. I thought to myself, "That's great, but I doubt the community will support them enough to make it happen. There isn't enough emphasis on local business in the town." A couple years later, I found myself sitting down with my wife to eat in their newly aquired place of business. Portales is changing, and the fact that AJ'S is now a new staple of the community reflects that.

Their wings are crispy, juicy, and smothered in flavor. I told my wife I actually prefer them to chain restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings, because the chicken is just that good. Also, they have these monstrous mozzarella sticks that are probably the best in town.

As someone who hasn't had reliable transportation for the majority of my time living here, it's great to finally have a viable hangout spot. Once they get their liquor license, I can definitely see myself going there as a regular customer.

I hope the spirit of entrepreneurship continues to be cultivated in Portales, and we begin to see more of a desperately needed nightlife crop up in an otherwise empty college town.

Genuinely worst food service i've ever experienced.

walked in and ALL the tables were covered in the previous customers food, we had to ask to have a table cleaned so we could have somewhere to sit

we waited 30 minutes before we just ended up asking for a refund and we still didn't have our food then. We saw two customers together and one separate walk in 5 minutes before we left and they ordered and got their appetizer five minutes later. We asked why they got their food before us and they claimed it was their appetizer- mind you we also ordered an appetizer and that shit sure as hell did not come out five minutes after we sat down, actually it came out never!

also those 3 customers actually had to move the plates/food/dirty napkins/and cups off another table to another because there was still nowhere to sit for new customers.

also they claimed they were so behind on orders when we watched everyone finish and leave 15 minutes in and then there was only me and my boyfriend and then 10 minutes later was the 3 other customers.

genuinely can not say anything about the food's flavor but if you're waiting that long and sitting in a nasty ass environment it better be the best fucking wings i could ever taste

some of THE best wings i've had in a while. Wings have great flavor and fries are well seasoned. Got 2 milkshakes and they were very well made aswell. Floors are a little sticky due to the primer on them.

Really good wings especially the hot hot ones with the reaper peppers or whatever is on the sauce they were actually spicy not like some people believe pepper is spicy.

We have dined in on three occasions with the same results. The service was very slow even when not busy. Food is pretty tasty, but we feel is a little expensive given the service and presentation. As much as we like going out, we will probably do our own wings and fries at home.

Green Chile and honey mustard and a big pile of fries is all you need to know! Always good and the staff is great!

I was really looking forward to eating at AJ's. I consider myself a wing connoisseur and my own homemade wings are well known in my hometown. That being said, I was a bit disappointed with AJ's wings.

They have several beer options but not a full bar. You have to order at the counter and an employee with bring out your order to you. The employees were very friendly and professional. The location is clean, comfortable and kind of upscale. But it used to be a real nice Italian restaurant and AJ's kept the decor. There were many TV sets around the place.

I ordered 20 wings with 3 flavors. I had the garlic Parmesan, Caribbean Jerk, and lemon pepper. I also ordered onion rings. The menu is very limited though. It pretty much is only chicken wings, plus a few salad options.

The garlic and lemon pepper was average, but I was expecting more. The Caribbean Jerk was almost a BBQ sauce was way to spicy for my taste. But others may love it. The wings were a good size and meaty, but no better than other wing places in the area. The onion rings were fantastic. They were big and meaty.

I found AJ's wings to be the same as Buffalo Wild Wings with but less flavor. Since BBW has a full bar, full service, and a much larger menu, I would rather go there instead.

Yay for fried pickles! I'd love for them to add boneless wings to their menu. I don't usually go for in-bone but stopped in because my boyfriend does.
