Virile Barber & Shop

Been coming to Andre and Erich here for two years. Just a bead trim but this place is the amazing. Super great staff and incredible interior its a always a pleasure to get a trim and fade. Thank you virile.

My favorite Barbershop in NYC is actually in NJ.

I wrote a review before for this shop but that was their original Jersey City location on Jersey Ave. This location, the newer improved additional location on Monmouth Street is a work of art.

The staff is extremely accommodating from the receptionist, to the barbers, to the shop dog. A quality drink is offered right away, my coat is hung up and everyone engages in conversation and knows my name.

It doesn't feel like any other business where I'm just another client waiting, they make you feel important and of value.

Competitive prices for what you're getting. You can't get this quality and service anywhere else in my opinion.

I've been getting beard trims at the Monmouth shop for almost a year. Mark Gaza does a great job, and this review in no way reflects his talents. Rather, it's reflective of the online tool Virile uses to schedule appointments.

I made an appointment online for a beard trim and a haircut. I looked for back-to-back appointments and scheduled accordingly. Typically, I would get a text confirmation 24 hours ahead of the appointment. When I didn't, I called and was told that Mark's day was booked and my name wasn't on the list. The woman asked if I booked online. I said I always did because I can never remember to call during 'business hours'. She said that the online system doesn't always work and understands it's 'annoying'. I don't understand how there's a KNOWN ISSUE with the online system, and yet it's still being used. Either FIX it or ELIMINATE it.

It's more than 'annoying' when you plan your schedule around a service that can't be provided and then need to shuffle your future schedule because the online tool doesn't work.

Again, Mark Gaza is great. Online appointment scheduling, not so much.

Jacques Bikai - the Barber is phenomenally highly skilled, my choice and go-to barber always! He is always friendly, helpful, courteous, and professional! Give him a huge raise- well deserved Jacques!

Met up again today (3/6/20) for my 10a appointment with barber - Jacques who did an outstanding job with my fresh new haircut! Jacques always amazes me with his talent, unique creativity, craftsmanship, wit, grit and just a nice, humble, personable and caring guy! Please give him a PHAT RAISE! Vince

Had a slightly unfortunate experience with Virile on Monmouth St. I booked in an appointment with Mark for 4:30, I showed up early for the appointment & then waited while he finished up his previous appointment.

That appointment ended at 4:50 & then another customer was called to have their haircut by Mark. Mind you I was there before that customer who showed up at 4:45, when I spoke to the receptionist, who was kind & apologetic, she relayed that Mark was just running terribly behind & that customer was actually ahead of me on the appointment calendar.

Fair enough, but I should've either received a call that Mark was running way behind & show up later so as not to waste my time or I should have been told when I checked in that I would be waiting for a substantial amount of time past my 4:30 booking. Likely I wouldn't have been seen until close to an hour after my scheduled time.

All in all no biggie, it's a haircut, that said when you have to book in an appointment you expect to be seen in a timely manner.

I've been going to Virile on Grove Street and specifically to Jacques Bikai for the past year. It's a great experience every time. Jacques is incredibly talented and does a fantastic job - he's considerate, careful and attentive every single time. The shop has a cool atmosphere and I'm happy I found it. Would recommend to anyone.

The service at Virile is excellent from start to finish. I can't say enough about the detail my barber, Jacque, takes with his clients. He asks all the right questions, makes great suggestions, and is kind, considerate, and professional. The cuts I have received are terrific and I've seen what he has done with other customers, and they are equally fantastic and customized to the individual. It is easy to book appointments via their website and they have convenient reminders via texts. I highly recommend both Virile and Jacque.

I've been getting my haircut with Jacques for about a year. I bounced around a few barbers in JC before I found Virile. It's easy to make a reservation online, and the service is attentive and detailed. Jacques is kind, easy to talk to, and fantastic at what he does. For example, last time I was in I asked him about recommendations for beard trimmers. He said he would send me a few options. Later that day I got a message with links and a really helpful description of each - that's the kind of barber he is. I couldn't recommend Virile and Jacques more.

I had been looking for a higher end, more mature barber shop experience for a few months. Most of the barber shops didn't give me the vibe that I wanted. Too loud. Long wait. Bad optics. One day I was driving and noticed Virile in Monmouth. And also noticed Jacques through the window. Being a black man I'm not too keen on just anyone cutting my hair. I don't care how nice the place is. I booked my appointment via their website arrived at my desired time. Was offered a beverage. Waited just a few minutes. Jacques asked me a few questions and started my haircut.. not only was the cut amazing, my wife was pleased as well. There was no hair in my face, in my ears, down the back of my shirt. No need to burn home and immediately take a shower. I would tell anyone who enjoys being an adult and treating themselves to come to Virile and ask for Jacque. I can't wait for my hair to grow so I can get it cut again.
