This is Brazilian Center! Lots of (pretty) people from the area come work out here so be prepared for some gorgeous bodies. The upside is that at 5 pm or 7pm there are still plenty of machines available. It is a well kept gym, clean, and nice equipment. They have a variety of classes. There is parking available.

The downside (as an instructor here) the zumba class gets super packed and extremely warm. The AC needs to be cranked, it's like hot yoga in there after a class; especially since the room is not that big. The only other downside are the bathrooms, they are small and OPEN. So you have to be quite confident to change in a large locker room area. Plus they need to restock basic supplies like soap and toilet paper more frequently. As always, you should go check out any gym before signing up to make sure it fits your needs.

I would not recommend this gym at all. It is clean but they do not appreciate their customers and are sneaky!!

I have been a member for about 2 years, I signed up for the gym, tanning and classes package.

It is January 22nd and today they told me they changed my package and I can no longer go tanning at this level. I told them I go tanning here every few days and no one has given me an issue. They also didn't send any notice or email telling me about the change. The manager said they are giving verbal notices and someone should have told me but never once apologized.

They were unable to print out or even show me the new policy. I'm canceling my membership immediately.

I only come here for one class and that's the TRX . I fell in love with the trx in this gym. Then one class was cancelled then Some people come and then does not show up anymore - maybe it's too hard or too easy for them?

Anyway, I'm getting bored with the same stuff and it's not doing any change in my body anymore so maybe I'll cancel soon .
If it gets better, like longer classes or additional class , I will stay even for just that class. I like that there's always parking and there's a sauna.

Horrible gym! Came to try it out for the first time and was told over the phone that the first day was free to try out the gym, which is standard in most facilities. Arrived and was then told that it's only free the fist day if you bring a guest. She then admitted that I was likely told this over the phone but refused to honor it while raising her voice. Don't waste your time or money in this place!!

Awful isn't even the word. The owner is a real prick and harasses me every time she sees me. If i knew what i know now when i was signing up i wouldn't have gone through with it. Im taking my money elsewhere asap. Nothing special about this one. A few squat racks and the usual machines. Missing essentials like ghr. The members there are just a bunch of pretty boys that don't know how to train. Oh and a quote from the manager "we are trying to attract more female members" to give you a taste of what they are about.

Plain gym, no new equipment,a lot of lug dropping but it's good before the evening crowds because it's practically empty, I'd make sure you wipe equipment before YOU use it. Classes are eh. Depends on instructor, I purchased a month to month because I relocate a lot, was a good deal and canceling wasn't difficult , smoothies are premade and there's no customization. Super hot sauna for you , women in locker room an be messy at times , no locks allowed to stay on lockers which is reasonable , Music gets uncomfortably loud at times , I have to turn my head phones WAY up, irritating but whatever. I get in,get out and get results because I'm focused at the gym.

A Fit Above is a diamond in the rough. It is a cutting edge facility offering all the bells and whistles, and has some good eye candy too. I travel into Newark area for work and am lucky to have found this place. It's in the Ironbound section and has off-street parking, which is a huge bonus. I've visited a few other gyms in this area and have to say that A Fit Above is my top pick.

The equipment at A Fit Above is top shelf and always seems to be well maintained. I always get a great workout when there. The gym offers circuit machines, plenty of free weights, ample cardio with TVs, and many classes for both men and women. I think the vibe is good, the music is consistently great, and the staff has always seemed friendly and nice. I took the TRX classes there and LOVE THE BURN. Since trying TRX classes at A Fit Above, it has not been easy finding another gym that even offers that kind of class. I TOTALLY recommend trying to take the class if you can.

Post workout, I also recommend rewarding oneself with a shake from the juice bar. The shakes are amazing and very reasonable.

I recommend checking out A Fit Above. I've been going there consistently throughout the past 8 years and have never been let down. Tried and true, I brag that A Fit Above is a gym modeled after expensive facilities you would find in Manhattan, placed in the most desirable area of Newark for all to reap the rewards of visiting.

Soooo much to say in regards to this gym. I was a member of this gym years ago, before I was a figure competitor, and my gym expectations were different. The only reason I left back then, was because I wanted a gym with later hours. I came back to A Fit Above early 2014 to try out the gym. I had four issues with them, and advise you to not join this gym. 1) When you sign in as a guest, all your info sits on the countertop in plain sight for everyone to see. I didn't think much of it, until I had someone messaging me on Facebook, and somehow he knew I had been to that gym. He eventually told me that he got my name/info from the sign-in sheet. I informed the staff, so they would move the sheet to behind the desk. They never did. 2) They wouldn't allow me to take a weight/plate into the studio to do modified sled-push intervals, on a towel! 3) From literally one day to the next, the owner implemented a 'no bags on the gym floor' rule, due to plates being stolen. There was no warning of the new rule, so when I had my bag with me, I had to leave in the middle of my workout bc I didn't have my lock and wasn't comfortable with them holding my bag. 4) I decided to end my membership. I paid the $50 cancellation fee and had one month before I could no longer go there. During that time, I thought I may want to keep going, so I inquired at the front desk what I would have to do if I wanted to keep going. The staff told me she would find out and let me know. She didn't tell me anything that day, while I was working out, and I never received a call in regards to what my options were. I noticed my bank account had been charged again. I called several days in a row, to dispute the charges and was told I wouldn't be getting ny money back bc I said I wanted to join again. ( I had only inquired, not said I wanted to rejoin.) I talked to the owner personally, and she was extremely unpleasant, rude, and arrogant. I went through my bank to get my money back, bc she wouldn't refund it.

***BEWARE OF THIS GYM and their shady business practices.***

This gym doesn't even deserve one star..DO NOT GET A CONTRACT with them! You will get screwed over, this gym got free money from me while I was on disability after a bad car accident and still kept charging me after my contract expired claiming that my membership would only expire 3 months after it actually did....and to cancel I would still have to pay a fee. They will not work with you, their policies only benefit THE GYM not the customer, in other words, they have a "f*** the customer" policy..if something happens to you, you better bend over backwards and somehow find the $ to still pay them.

I joined this gym when I moved into the area because my housemates were also members. It is nothing special but it has working machines and got the job done for a reasonable price. HOWEVER, when I moved from the area and attempted to cancel my membership, I was given conflicting information about how to do so and then told by the OWNER "Lisa Smith" (it remains to be seen whether she actually provided me her real name or some pseudonym) that I had to pay $50 to get out of the membership at any point. Ms. "Smith" also insisted that I not waste any of her time because she was "closing in 10 minutes and could not do everything at once". Highly disappointed with the customer service. Save yourself the headache and find someplace else.
