I dunno. They run it sort of like a restaurant. The food is good but you gotta wait forever for a table. I think if it was a real emergency, you'd get good care.
I was there for a run of the mill, painful rash. On July 2, so all the residents, etc., are switching over--official Worst Day to Go to ER. Had to sit in the waiting room for a long time, but at some point, one of the admin people said, "there's just two rooms ahead of you, we'll clear them and get you in"--hence the reference to waiting for a table in a chi chi restaurant.
Once I got to a room, all was great. Nurses were smart and knowledgeable, interested in keeping me comfortable. Never saw an MD, but the PA who saw me was smart, thorough, and practical. Felt like if I need more, I would have gotten it.
So:
Pros: Right off exit 59, free parking, clean, and there's some quality control.
Cons. They probably know just how to keep the flow down to make their margins, but they won't let you suffer too much or die.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Linda F.San Francisco, CA01Apr 24, 2024
The medical center has dramatically changed for the worse over the last few years. I was there on 4/20/24 @ 7am for problems with my breathing and chest discomfort. Told me my oxygen level was low and I had wait for a bed to open @ Yale before I could be dismissed. At approximately 7 pm they said and ambulance is coming and now they were transporting me to St. Raphael because there were no beds @ Yalel. For 12 hours I laid in a bed, I asked for fluids they told me the Doctor didn't see why I would need fluids. I told them I had a headache and asked for tylenol they never gave to me. Never once did they even asked if I wanted water. Never again will I go there and probably better to just go to Yale directly. Guilford Resident.

Horrible place. I don't think this people have idea of what they are doing. Do yourself a favor and avoid this facility. I just wasted 5 hour and still have to go to Yale hospital to see what's wrong with my spouse. An absolutely disappointing experience

Worst satellite ER location in the state of Connecticut; hence why I gave them 1 star! My significant other fell on black ice, he landed on his left shoulder - he had surgery last month at YNHH St. Raphael's to repair a torn rotator cuff. The female employee who checked him in was nice. They are not allowing visitors due to COVID-19, so because of that I ended up waiting in my significant other's Jeep. Not too long after my significant other was brought to a room, he informed me that other patients in the ER had visitors with them! Are you kidding me?! The other patients were allowed visitors, but my significant other wasn't?! Guess this place does not care about the safety and well-being of anyone that comes through their doors who need medical attention or the people who come in with them!
I was given updates through text messaging, which I appreciated. One of the the nurses had the nerve to say "what happened, did you fall?" His response was "yes, I did fall" She (the nurse) then replied by saying "what did you do that for?" Wow, I must say that her comment was so rude! The nurse was being sarcastic, during something that needed medical attention. My significant other had x-rays, but no MRI! X-Rays cannot determine if there are any soft tissue injuries. Luckily there are no breaks or fractures. The main concern was to find out if there is any damage to the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in his left shoulder - how the heck would he know if there was any damage if no MRI was done!? I spoke with an on-call orthopedic surgeon from Yale Orthopedics. I must say that he was understanding, worried, and told me that my significant other would have a MRI done before being sent home. Did the MRI happen? No! Believe me as I say this - not only is he upset, I am too! The radiology technicians were also nice, they treated my significant other with the respect that he and every other patient deserve, and were professional. The nurses, were rude - they were talking about what medication he takes, his past medical treatment, and other personal information! What ever happened to HIPAA?!?!?! Not only were they doing things against HIPAA, the nurses were being kind to the elderly patients, but not my significant other! Age does not matter, folks of all ages should be treated equally with respect, empathy, inclusion, and all other good things. The PA who worked with my significant other was nice as well, she took the time to listen to him and answer any questions that he may have had. I cannot forget to mention the ER security guard who was working, who I have know for a long time. He was polite as well! I really thought that YNHH Shoreline ED in Guilford was a great medical facility, but my assumption was wrong. What a huge mistake of even going there, it is a horrible place! I will never, ever set foot in there again; and as for my significant other - this was the first and last time he will ever go there!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 4, 2020
One star is generous. I've been to this emergency room more times than I'd like. When it first opened up it was great. The quality of care, speed in which they got you out and it was well staffed. Now I feel like it's the adult version of going to the nurses office. They give you a juice box and some crackers and send you back to class. My most recent experience was with my mother. She got there with my father around 11:30am. They took her in, did the limited number of tests they can do there. Then she sat in a room for hours after that. No one offered her even a cracker. She's diabetic and they didn't even have the medicine she needed and I had to bring her medication from home to her because she was there so long she needed to take her night time doses. My parents were told she was being as admitted but that there were no beds so she had to wait. My father had been there all day and had a chair with a wooden bottom and back to sit in, in six hours you would think someone might offer him a better place to sit. They had one MD on and my parents saw that person for 5-10 mins. The prices they charge and you can't even get the care you need. What frustrates me the most is when I got there I could hear them discussing my parents, what they looked like and my mom's medical information out in the open. I also could hear what was going on in other rooms and hear them discussing other people's medical information. What happened to privacy laws?! It's funny how after I made a call to patient relations that a bed suddenly came available. I'm very disappointed with this facility and with Yale in general. I think that they have grown too big and their standards of care have fallen significantly. Sadly around here you don't have any other options in an emergency but Yale because they own everything. Do better!

Was seen here for a kidney stone. Both the MD and APRN staffing the ER missed my infection due to an obstructed ureter. I was sent hime without an antibiotic and went into Septic Shock And a coma. 2 days later I was found at home unresponsive and taken by ambulance to New Haven into emergency surgery. Almost died. Gross medical malpractice. Yale denies any culpability. After my surgery they sent me home with no followup care because they knew they Caused the problem and let it get so bad by sending me home I almost died. I am not done with them yet. Then my chart showed that the APRN in the ER was at the New Haven ER when I was brought in unconscious and a temp of 104 and Delores and in Septic shock from them sending me home without being able to diagnose a kidney infection and ureteral obstruction. Bring a nurse I got my records and saw everything they missed. Yale should not be buying up hospitals because if can't even run the ones around New Hsven. Go to Middlesex ER over this place of botched medical treatment. The MD Director of the ER was there the night I came in so there's no excuse if he is the most senior person they have.

They sent me home. I pleaded with them to give me a CT Scan. They missed a pulmonary embolism and bilateral clots in both legs. I returned the next day and was taken by ambulance to New Haven. Almost died. Great huh? I should have sued them after my 10 days at York Street.
Another time I had to insist that I had an infection in my foot from a blister . They told me it was Athletes Foot. Like--- you are kidding? I fought them and would not leave until I was given an antibiotic. I asked for a marker pen to tract the outline of the infection on that weekend.
I do not have luck here---but where else can I go? Advocate for yourself or you might die!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William C.Branford, CT01Jan 14, 2020
My wife and I are both in our eighties,so we have had dozens of ER visits over the years including a few life or death situations. When the Shoreline ER Center in Guilford opened we started to go there and where impressed by the new patient focused environment. The staff was all attentive and concerned. Questions where answered as quickly as possible in a polite friendly manner. We have been there quite a few times over the years and things have changed.
We where there last week on a minor respiratory problem.Admission and processing went well but that's where the problem started. We all know it takes time to have X-Rays or CT Scans to be processed and accept that, but do not need to be placed in an open ended information vacuum forever.
Any inquiry at the nurses station was met with a curt non-answer,three people staring at their computer screens with half the beds empty. An inquiry to a walk in tech got no reply. We got an answer after getting ready to leave.
Systems can get overwhelmed and people will understand that in a hospital environment. All it takes is the courtesy of a occasional update and a polite response to an inquiry. Someone at home may be waiting for call.
Oh for the good old days at Shoreline Emergency.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lauren Z.Oxford, CT5041Jul 5, 2019
Came here at 11pm on July 4th with my partner who had a terrible case of strep throat. Staff was wonderful and took him in right away. Three other people came in during the time we were there, and everyone was given friendly and immediate attention. Hopefully we don't need to come back, but if we do I am confident we will have a good experience. Recommended!

If you were dying you would get attention. I really don't understand, 4.5 hours there and we only got attention when we first came in as my 98 yr old dementia dad was having trouble breathing. Never saw anyone again. After 4 hours I really started to complain and was told there was an emergency. Wasn't I in the er? Only one doctor and one nurse?
