Q:
Does a parent have to see the movie with minor at an R rated film?
A:
I saw an interaction like this last week. The ticket staff confirmed the adult and child had ticket to the same movie and time and seated next to each other.

AMC La Jolla has most of what you want for a pleasurable movie going experience. Good food, nice reclining seats, nice big bathrooms, excellent popcorn , and good soda machines. They also have a bar with alcohol.
Parking is easy and I recommend the side with the Ross--Easy entry and plenty of parking.
What it doesn't have:
1) Usually upon check-in, the same person at the front selling tickets is the one scanning tickets which essentially eliminates the benefit of reserving your movie ticket on their app or online to avoid waiting to get in. Which is annoying.
and,
2) No Dolby or IMAX, unfortunately.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Sergio D.San Diego, CA0258226May 5, 20241 check-in
AMC La Jolla exceeded my expectations with its state-of-the-art screens, comfortable reclining seats, and exceptional sound quality. The theater is always clean and well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and efficient. I love the variety of movies they offer, from mainstream hits to indie gems. And, the parking garage is convenient and easy to navigate. Overall, a fantastic movie-going experience that I highly recommend!

The AMC with reclining chairs is how I think of this one.
Its a smaller theater, this the '12'. But it is good watch if you like to pop your feet up.
They've had problem with mildew smell sometimes in some theaters, but if that happens, just ask for a refund/ credit and come back when it's better or see another movie.
They, like all AMCs, honor the pay it forward tickets for 'Sound of Freedom' which is s solid movie that I highly recommend. You can get a free ticket here:

Snack bar is decent and they do serve alcohol.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Dec 22, 2015Previous reviewOkay... I had to go here for the Star Wars opening on Thursday night and guess what? They remembered me! And they told me that they changed their liquor license and you dont need to look over 40 too see a 21+ alcohol permitted movie anymore! BUT to be sure I brought my license this time ;)
As for the comfort of their chairs, theirs is one of the most comfortable in my book. We were second row from the screen and it was a-ok! The seats reclined so far back that we had zero neck strain! :)
The ONLY reason I'm still down one star is because my brother in law was not able to get his money back for the movie I couldn't get into, because of my id, they only gave him a voucher.
Yet, all in all, this is a good theater and I appreciate them taking my complaint seriously.Nov 27, 2015Previous reviewTwo stars for a weird rule. Otherwise they have a decent stadium style theater.
I was born in 1976... They wouldn't let me in to see the movie because I didn't have my id, and anyone who "appears to be under 40" will not be let in without id; because there was a bar area right outside the theater.
This is when looking younger than I am is not a good thing.
I asked if they'd escort me to my seat and see that I'm going past the bar and not ordering a drink. 2 minutes till movie starts. Still, no go. #amc is lame!
I used to work in restaurants and the general rule was 30 years old. I certainly don't look under 21, not even under 30.

Today is the last day for my A-list (movie pass), as I switched over to Regal Unlimited to spread the financial support and for a change of scenery. I'd go here depending on showtimes for the flicks that I want to see. Besides, it's uncrowded here, and the recliner seats are cozy.
Tonight, they provided early access to Transformers: Rise of the Beast, before it's theatrical release tomorrow, 6/08/2023. To my surprise, they gave away a movie poster and a collectible patch; which is a nice bonus.
On to the food. I ordered the Stone-Fired Flatbread Pizza ($10.19). I waited about ten min., but it was a good thing that I was early. The pizza was moderately overcooked but still satisfactory. The sauce was similar to Celeste frozen pizza; however, there was more cheese, and the pepperoni tasted fresh. It's definitely heartier than popcorn or a hotdog; thus, I was content. 7/10 rating.
Goodbye, AMC. At least until my three month Regal Unlimited membership expires.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 12, 2023
Not a huge movie person so I haven't been to the theaters in a few years. So this was the first theater I've been to in a while and it was a good experience!
I recommend buying your tickets ahead of time online so you can pick good seats. Check-in was quick and friendly. The theater was clean. The seats are reclining but they aren't the most comfortable I've seen. I would expect this AMC location to have heated seats but they aren't currently. Personally, the sound was perfect and not as loud as in other theaters.
This theater is located in a busy plaza. Parking can be difficult even at later hours. But there is some underground parking that is easier.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 1 - Darryl G.San Diego, CA3636153670Feb 4, 2024
So incredibly disappointed - went there to see the limited two-day showing of Pet Shop Boys: Wonderland and the sound was bad - I think my laptop is more impressive. Went to the front desk twice asking them to look at it, but they made no changes. It is an old theatre, so perhaps their technology is just outdated. If you are going to see a movie that needs good sound, you are better off going to Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Del Mar, or THE LOT La Jolla.

This use to be our go to theater, but in the last few years this place as dramatically declined.
Latest visit was this last Friday with the kids.
For starters, the concession stand looks horrible. The front counters are filthy and none of the staff has any urgency to clean up. The drink station was a mess and the employee that was mopping the area was doing so with a soak and wet mom.
The bathrooms...disgusting. My 5 year old refused to use the restroom because of how dirty and smelly it was.
The theaters are very much run down. The location has assigned recliner seats. We got to our seats and the sides of the seat were black. The recliner is red and the black was just areas where the color had peeled off.
I work in furniture, so I know leather....or vinyl like these probably are...will eventually peel. Especially with high uses. But for this type of theater, you expect them to maintain a luxury look. Many of the seats should be replaced. My sons seat had cuts and rips all over the seat. It's just overall not a good experience.
Last complaint in theater 12 is the lighting. All three the previews, the lights did not turn off. When they finally did, the movie had started. If you have ever watched a movie in a theater, you know when the previews start the lights dim. When these lights went off it was totally like a switch was flipped and it was like a blackout all of a sudden.
I didn't renew my AMC stub club this time and I doubt I will be back to this location. For just a few bucks more, those other luxury theaters in town offer a world of a difference in your movie experienceHelpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Tamara M.Beverly Hills, CA159230830Dec 26, 2023
Nice theater plenty of parking both up top and in the garage. They have a full bar, good selection of food at the snack bar but don't expect many or if any healthy options. However, it is a movie theater. Seats were spread out which I liked. The only thing I didn't like is there was dog sitting in the seat next to me. The movie theater is no place for a dog.

Come here all the time! This place is always clean, quiet and friendly. The seats are awesome. The people working there are fast, kind and efficient!
The million different fountain drinks you can choose from rules and the food is pretty good too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 14, 2023
Even though this is my preferred AMC in San Diego, it's because there's a lack of better options. It's a little disappointing that there's no Dolby or IMAX theater in all of SD so I come here just because it is clean and the reclining seats are always available. I do also appreciate the location being next to Ralph's, Trader Joe's, and a lot of restaurants so I can run some errands or eat around my scheduled movie time.
