If you want to experience true Japanese culture, this is the place.
Even though I'm Japanese, I still was in shock at the cramp-ness and craziness. When you arrive, you'll have to first decide which stall you would like to eat at. After which you'll have to squeeze in and find a seat. I ended up at the very beginning? end? of the hall and pretty much made friends with everyone at the stall since it's so cozy. Plus, Japanese people love Hawaii so naturally, it was a conversation starter for me.
The food was awesome. I especially loved the avocado. Oh and the drinks! You'll for sure end up just asking for another round.
If you're claustrophobic, don't go here. LoL.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Loewe C.Burnaby, Canada26152237Jan 10, 2020
Our local friend took us to ebisu yokocho because it was more local than other alleyways and we loved it! Super cute little stalls with amazing and different food at each one. If you do not like sitting in loud areas or tight spaces, this is not for you.
We tried some horse sushi and raw chicken (I am still alive). Fresh sashimi, oysters and more. Each stall requires you to buy a drink but they offer a complimentary little appetizer.

What an awesome little yokocho. I didn't want to go to the Shinjuku yokochos because last time I went, it was too touristy. This seemed like a perfect slice of Japanese cultures and there were barely any foreigners. It's also different from the other yokochos as it wasn't really an outdoor street alley and more an indoor cramped arcade.
Reading some of the other reviews, some non-Japanese had issues with being able to get seated or being served but we went to 2 of the stalls in this alley and had no issues at all. We went late on a Friday night thinking we had missed the dinner rush but boy were we wrong. It was cramped to the max and it was an adventure just having to squeeze past everyone!
We tried the gyutan (beef tongue) place in the middle which was really good and the yakitori (chicken skewers) stall at the end which was just okay. Definitely a great place off the beaten path to experience local culture.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - K. T.Camas, WA043201May 29, 2019
Fun place and the Japanese girls are very friendly here! Food isn't the best but is reasonably priced. The atmosphere makes up for that though. Get there early, 6pm, or you may not get a seat. We went on a rainy weekday and it was still packed by 730p.

There are so many reasons why I live around Meguro-Shibuya area.
One of those is this place.
There's always a party here! No need for a holiday or any special occasion...there's always a happening.
Food and drinks are cheap. And they're super delicious!
And if you need a mariachi to serenade you...there's one, sometimes 2, if you're lucky. ;)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Miguel R.Los Angeles, CA652900998Mar 26, 2017
Ebisu Yokocho I.S. A D.R.E.A.M C.O.M.E T.R.U.E.!!!!
My BF found out about it on his phone! I was really hungry and we were in Shibuya so I wanted to eat in Shibuya, but we had gone to so many of my places of choice that I felt it would only be fair to go with my BF on this adventure! It took a while to get here but it was well worth the wait!!!!
Ebisu Yokocho is like a Mexican mercado. A Mexican mercado is a large building with small spaces inside to eat and get produce and other stuff. A mercado is like Grand Central Market in Los Angeles.
We stopped by a small spot with a lady taht didn't speak English but she managed to enlist the service of a young man from another one of the spots to translate! The food here is cheap by Tokyo standards and it is awesome by anyone's standards! You get the feeling you are really experiencing authenticity here! Whenever the lady did not have something we wanted they would get it from another one of the spots in Ebisu Yokocho! That's what I call teamwork!!!!
What can I do without at Ebisu Yokocho?
It's perfect!!!!
What makes Ebsiu Yokocho stand out?
Authenticity and value!!!!
Five stars!!!! Ebisu Yokocho is really, really ridiculously great!!!!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Elijah B.Martinez, CA484407531Sep 23, 2015
This yokocho is a party! Went here on a week day night and it was STILL full of people!
I do not know exactly which places I ate at, but one place was basic izakaya finger foods (grilled chicken/veggies/seafood), and another place I went to we grilled our own pork.
Beer/High balls are CHEAP here!! Only like 400-500 yen per glass!
Wish my group could have tried more places as there were so many! There was 7 of us and it was hard to find a place to sit down with even 3-4 seats since it was just so crowded.
Most of the crowd seemed like business men that just got off work, and a lot of younger people going out for drinks/food.
There was also a guy going around playing guitar and asking for any requests.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 12, 2014
Probably my favorite place that we got to try during our trip to Japan - it's definitely challenging to find, but it is packed with restaurants and bars. Most (if not all) of the menus are in Japanese, so I recommend coming here with a hungry stomach and an open mind.
We went to the restaurant that had a mushroom specialty (based on all of the pictures on their menu) and it was spectacular. Got a salad with roasted meat on top, salted cucumbers, gyoza... the list goes on and on, but honestly, you don't really need specific cuisine recommendations here. Just ask them for what they recommend.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 26, 2015
I came here with a group of 8 people. It is basically an alleyway filled with a bunch of restaurants. I ate at one if the bars and had a blast. I got some fries, some oden, umeshu and even some fried chicken kaarage. Get the chicken kaarage!!
