Funny that the times should post a story about breakfast making a comeback in Los Angeles. I have been thinking a lot lately about this, why there aren't breakfast appetizers? I've asked around and gotten different answers. I'm putting together a list of possible recipes and experimenting a little this weekend with them. I'll hopefully blog about them as well.
Any ideas why places don't offer a 1st course with breakfast?8/20/2008 -

People are in a hurry to go to work, breakfast is one of those meal that some just don't have the time to sit back and enjoy, unfortunately.
I like the idea of a breakfast appetizer.
Maybe like, mini waffles topped off with eggs and bacon,
or eggs and sausage or strawberries and syrup, etc....8/20/2008 -

Starling in Long Beach serves scones as a breakfast appetizer.
I do like that breakfast is the only meal where it's completely socially acceptable to have pastries and alcohol - no questions asked.8/20/2008 -

Blow job under the kitchen table... nothing compete that to increase positivity at work in the afternoon.

Maybe because restaurant breakfasts tend to be so heavy to begin with there's no room for appetizers? Also, it seems like breakfast is one of those comforting, get you up and ready to act less zombie-like, meals and the idea is to just get you energized, rather than engage in the meal. I can't imagine people being interested in a tasting menu at breakfast, for example.

Grub in Hollywood brings out a bowl of cereal (dry, no milk) as an appetizer for you to nosh on while you wait for the real stuff to arrive. The cereal may change daily. I think when I was there we had Lucky Charms:)

Outside of coffee or juice breakfast is and should be a one course meal. Totally agree with Ayelet on this.
