Food at ATL (Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport)

in Food

  1. Or should I call this thread, "best of the worst?'

My job is currently ~90% travel, which means I've been spending a lot of time at good ol' ATL. Any other frequent travelers?

I would love everyone's take on the best and worst in each terminal. I know I've got some great venues to look forward to in the coming months, but let's just stay in the present shall we?

I'll kick it off with Dunkin' Donuts in Terminal A. If I'm on a morning flight and not departing from A, I will still make a stop off at A to get my iced coffee. Also, their bagels taste fantastically fresh, the line moves quickly, and prices aren't exorbitant.

Wish I could help you but I don't eat at the airport unless it's a last resort lol. I wish you luck though.

I live in East Point, so I make sure to eat before I leave.  sigh.  I'm mostly through B, but I cannot recommend anything there.  Even the Sweetwater place's beer doesn't taste quite right.  No more international travel this year (at least for work, hopefully), so I don't know about the new terminal.

The ultimate in sucktacular is how you're not allowed to take coffee through security.  You're stuck with what's on the other side.  And they cannot use your mug but only stupid throw-away cups.  All the coffee seems equally sad: ultra-processed, over-roasted, and with no hint of its original character remaining.  I always regret getting coffee at the airport.  I should just sleep on the flight.

  2. @Jason - I loathe Terminal B. I always know it's going to be a bad day if it says "B" on my boarding pass. I would love to know if anyone has found anything good there.

For coffee I try to stick with DD (in A) or- last resort- Starbucks. If you were really desperate you could carry your coffee in several 3 oz containers!

I think that Bistro del Sol has the best food for the price.  It's located between the Atrium and West Crossover, which means that anyone can try it because it's not beyond the security checkpoints.

Oh, and of course, Chik-fil-A is still at A-10.  Airport restaurants almost invariably suck and are overpriced due to airport overhead costs, the fact that the customers are a captive audience, and because they don't strive to impress you given that you may never return to that particular airport so there's no incentive for excellence if you're unlikely to be a repeat customer.  Chik-fil-A is one of the few shining exceptions.

  3. Road warrior here as well.  My flights are usually at 7am.. so, I am usually first in line at Pascal's Southern .. for a plate of eggs, bacon, and biscuits..

Popeyes is my stop if need be.

Terminal E - One Flew South is great when an evening flight is delayed an hour or two.

I've cut alot of things out of my diet as of recent, on top of that I don't fly as much as I used to (which, trust me, I'm so much more ecstatic about). When I was on one connecting flight to the next in HJIA (and when it was just HIA) I would make it a habit of getting Paschals either in Concourse A or the Atrium, I always thought the food was always good there even though the peach cobbler would be TOO sweet. I've only been to the Concourse C location once with my dad (years ago), and it wasn't a bad experience, I thought the food was just as good if not better.

I sometimes have this itch for sugar-free chocolate and if I'm leaving Concourse B I'll stop and get some at Savannah's Candy Kitchen.

I've never been disappointed in Chik-Fil-A wherever I go so it's a win-win at the location in Concourse A. Although I personally think you don't get the usual service-with-a-smile at the airport location as you do outside of it.

A lot of the food at Atlanta restaurants is quite good actually.  I cant name any specific restaurants because it has been a while but i dont think you can go wrong with any that you choose.

    That didn't make any sense.

I think someone has been hitting the bath salts...

  5. Does Popeye's have non-fried chicken? I've never eaten there.

I'd really like to check out One Flew South one day. Maybe as a part of a vacation.

I also just thought of Cafe Intermezzo, which is in B. Probably the only good thing there. I've only been once for some cheesecake and outside of all the carryons floating around I didn't feel like I was in the airport at all!

Popeyes does have non-fried, but I can't recommend it. If you're going to Popeyes, you get fried chicken.

  6. I am also being reminded at the moment that the worst coffee in the world is not at airports; it's on the planes! Even the smell is nauseating.

Auntie Anne's, I have a weakness for pretzel dogs, but they have not let me down...yet  .

I do tend to eat before getting into line at security.

What about the Heineken Bar & Grill, has anyone tried that?

  7. I've been there once, but I honestly think I only got beer. So based on that, I will say it was fantastic! :)

The Budweiser bar in Terminal A closed a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if that's permanent or not. I'm sure smokers are annoyed; that's the only smoking lounge I know of in A.

I meant Atlanta "airport" restaurants.  Opps.

I don't know if it's still there, but theres a place I wouold usually go to if I'm in Concourse B, I think it's where Cafe Intermezzo/Buckhead Books is now located. Becuase it was the only place I know of that was a bookstore/eatery deal in the whole airport. I'd normally get a side salad and a sandwich or main entree.

  8. qdoba @ E is nice, hell, I enjoy the E concourse food court a bunch...  The Nathan's (forgot what concourse) is better here than it is outside airport.

The Chili's To-go kiosks, I would stay away from- they taste nothing like it...

I love getting my drinking on in the Delta Sky Clubs, on whichever concourse :)

The Heineken spot is absolutely nothing to break ur neck to try- stick to beers there.

P.S. Exactly half of the restaurant is a haven for smokers.

Not a fan however there's a Varsity in the new concourse F. What a great send off, hope the seat belt sign goes off soon. I've been told it's not as greasy as the original.

Whoa - haven't tried all the Nathan's concessions at the airport, but the idea that it's better than it is on the outside makes my head spin.  I love hot dogs as a quick meal, so I've gotten them a few times before flights...despite remembering how bad it was the last time. I'm a glutton for punishment.  Anyhow, I'd say the Nathan's in the airport is some of the worst hot dogs I've ever had.

Brioche Doree in Terminal A is excellent for sandwiches. Though the sandwiches aren't made on the spot, they're fresh, use great ingredients, and some can be toasted for cheesy perfection.

When you come up the escalator into A do a U-turn to find the place.

Well, I must pipe in, of course. There's now an El Taco in Concourse F! eltaco-atlanta.com ;-)
