Queens Symphony Orchestra's 15th Annual Great Lawn Summer Concert

What/Why:

Featuring Verdi selections by the Queens Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Constantine Kitsopoulos.

Saint John's University Great Lawn
Rain or Shine with rain location at Marillac Auditorium

QSO is pleased to celebrate Verdi's bicentennial birthday with a selection of operas by the great composer as well as other acclaimed Italian composers. The outdoor summer concerts will also feature soloists Victoria Cannizzo, Soprano, Melisa Bonetti, Mezzo-soprano, Benjamin Werley, Tenor, and Avi Albrecht, Baritone.

Verdi is widely recognized as one the greatest composers of Italian opera. A composer of romantic music, his work was already very popular during his lifetime and remains so today. One reason for his success was his rejection of the traditional Italian opera for integrated scenes and unified acts. Verdi became a national hero and produced many successful operas, such as
La Traviata and Falstaff.

The evening's programming will include selections from La Traviata, Falstaff, Aida, Rigoletto, and more! At St. John's University, the orchestra will begin the evening with the Italian National Anthem - the University's Alma Mater.

Currently in its 60th season, Queens Symphony Orchestra is the borough's only professional orchestra, and the oldest and largest professional arts organization in Queens. QSO remains dedicated to keeping our fantastic concerts free, so all people of Queens can enjoy the highest quality of entertainment available to them.
