My parents and I nearby and we were craving papusas real bad. Found this place on a whim and it did not disappoint. The parking was tough and the wait was a little long, but the papusas were made by order so I don't mind. A cute little restaurant with lots on the menu and El Salvadorian pride everywhere.
My order:
We ordered 5 Revueltas (pork, cheese, and fried beans) and 2 extra papusas to go. Both the To-go order and the plates came with curtido and the salsa. They were good and very fresh, so fresh that my dad wanted to take the leftover curtido home and they just gave us an extra bag of it!!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - 57277854May 8, 2024
Pupusas are first rate; not the best I've ever had but very very good; light, not greasy.
Cabbage is a bit too spicy but good. Rice was fine (Salvadoran Mexican, just fyi).
I'd prefer green sauce, but they don't offer it.
Good value, takes a while for fresh pupusas (which it should), just fyi.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 246258632Jul 26, 2023
I was in Menlo Park for work and had some down time. Zipotes was the solution. The sweet man at the counter told me it was going to be 30 minutes. I got the combo. A sweet milk empanada, a chicken Tamal, and two pork Pupusas. It was worth the wait. Absolutely delicious! I loved everything. The Pupusas were divine. The Tamale had lots of chicken inside and was steamed in a banana leaf then neatly wrapped in parchment paper.
Everything tasted fresh and made to order. The sweet milk Empanada had a
bar of milk with the consistency of cream cheese. The dough tasted like plantains. It was a perfect side dish to everything else and was unique. When you can't get down to El Salvador to dine beachside - go to Zipotes.
Lovely people and great food made with love.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - David P.San Carlos, CA385929437Sep 23, 2023
My son and I had a hankering for pupusa for lunch today. We usually get take out and have it at home, but its totally different (and much tastier!) to have them freshly prepared and hot off the grill. For the two of us, two revuelta pupusa (pork, beans and cheese) and one order of two pastelitos de carne (fried Salvadorian empanadas) with an ample sides of curtido (slaw) and salsa roja was a fully satisfying weekend lunch. Several hot sauces on the table. Washed down with a Mexican Fanta of course.
Very barebones decor with just a Salvadorian flag on the wall.
I often go to restaurants outside of my comfort zone and would never ding owner who might roll their eyes some clueless gringo trying to order. The man at the counter was welcoming and helpful despite my mangling of the menu. We'll be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Ea818 A.Oakland, CA05Apr 23, 2024
Looooove the food. The pupusas are really amazing, freshly made and delicious flavors. Many different types and family owned restaurants. I will definitely recommend

Food is good but price is too expensive for some pupusas. Would recommend the pupusas if you don't mind paying a lot for them.

I don't know what happened to this place, pupusas were too greasy and couldn't eat them, waste of money, not going back!

Beware ... this restaurant has now changed its name from Zipotes to Cipotes. I'm not sure why but the people are all still the same.

The owner, Gilberto, who also works for Recology, and his wife, Angelica were the best!!!!! Angelica always made sure the pupusas were bomb. Well, now Gilberto and Angelica are getting divorced and he brought in his new woman and everything has gone downhill. Most neighbors on my block and I have been buying from Zipotes since they opened. But, according to their employee/manager, Jorge, Gilberto cheated on his wife and is letting the new woman run the restaurant. And according to him, since this has happened, things have changed and I totally 100% agree.
I purchased a lot of pupusas one evening, 5 mins to 7pm (knowing they close at 7:30pm) but they said it was no problem that they could make my order. I pick up my order and go home (live like a block away) and I quickly open up the food to feed my hungry family and they take bites and spit it out right away ... they say it tastes funny. So I take a bite and sure enough; first, they are really really soggy and secondly, they taste rancid ... even the curtido was really soft and warm to the touch. I drove the food right back to the restaurant and they claim they can do nothing to help because the owner is not there. So, they make me take a picture of the food and send it to the employee, Jorge (even though he had his own phone). Then we're instructed to wait to hear back from the owner. So, we bring the food back with us so that we can show the owner tomorrow but we never get a call back. After waiting a week to get a hold of him, we finally get a call from some lady claiming to be the owner (don't recognize her voice at all) and she says nothing will be done about it. She then puts Gilberto on the line and eggs him to "Dile, dile!" which means "Tell her, tell her!" So, basically she's telling him to tell me the same thing she said and he compiles.
I was so surprised because Gilberto is not like this. He used to take pride in his food and had great customer service. I didn't want my money back just wanted them to fix the issue of them selling me old food for profit.
I highly don't recommend this restaurant anymore ... unless your want to be sold old food that could make you sick. And forget customer service now! Just like Jorge said, everything has changed for the worst. You've been warned. - Obdulia F.Redwood City, CA0610Mar 27, 2023
